Alabama trio in Top 10 of 247Sports Composite Rankings

quote:

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings are updated and Alabama has three signees in the Top 10 as well as many others within the Top247 represented.

Here’s a breakdown of where each Alabama pledge sits with 247Sports’ final rankings update yet to be released.

Alabama currently ranks No. 1 in the nation, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, and barring some unforeseen circumstance should maintain that positioning to close out the 2019 cycle.

NO. 5 TREY SANDERS, RB

247Sports Scouting Report:

A sturdy running back with powerful legs and a body capable of handling pounding the position takes on every carry. One of the most college ready bodies at the running back position in the 2019 class. Able to deftly make defenders miss in the hole and turn short gains into big runs. Nimble feet, impressive jump cuts, and vision to go with the strength to break tackles and push the pile. Comfortable as a pass catcher, making him a well rounded weapon out of the backfield. Concerned he is already physically maxed out prospect with limited upside to what he is currently. An impact player at high-end Power 5 level and future NFL draft pick, with early round upside.

NO. 7 ANTONIO ALFANO, SDE

247Sports Scouting Report:

Thick but lean athlete with very little body fat. Carries 275 pounds like it's 230. Potential to be a very athletic-framed 300-pounder on the next level. Plays with good leverage with an explosive first step. Has violent hands and aggressive mentality. Has the temperament you want on the defensive line. Highly competitive. Physical tackler through the ball carrier. Possesses elite edge athleticism and freakish combine testing numbers. Also has versatility and strength to play inside. Sheds blocks and attacks double teams effectively. Pursuit speed is rare but effort needs to be more consistent on plays away from him. Upper tier Power 5 multi-year starter with first- or second-round potential.

NO. 10 EVAN NEAL, OT

247Sports Scouting Report:

A massive body with extremely long arms. At his size, capable of engulfing defensive linemen. A strong and powerful offensive lineman with above average mobility given his size. Needs to control his weight and not become too heavy to play the position while also continuing to improve quickness. Impact Power-Five prospect with high round NFL draft upside.

NO. 43 PIERCE QUICK, OT

247Sports Scouting Report:

Lean, imposing lineman with very little bad weight. Looks like an athlete. Has frame to grow into a physical force. Combine testing results put him among the most athletic offensive linemen in 2019 class. Has a nasty streak. Finishes with enthusiasm and we like that he plays just to the cusp of being dirty. Has elite power in a phone booth. Usually wins when he gets hands on a defender. Not comfortable playing in space as pass protector despite combine athleticism. Lunges too much. Has work to do in terms of footwork and polish in pass pro. Frame and raw athleticism of a tackle but skillset better suited for guard or center long term. Impact upper tier Power 5 starter and future NFL draft pick.

NO. 44 JORDAN BATTLE, S

247Sports Scouting Report:

Good height and length. Has added some solid weight over the course of his career. Good all-around athlete who doubles as a basketball player. Is a key player for one of the nation’s top high school teams. Has performed well on the big stage against top competition. Reliable and versatile. Good instincts and playing speed. Effective as a blitzer and makes plays in the return game. Does a good job reading the quarterback and receivers when in deep coverage. May lack some of the ‘wow factor’ of other top safeties and can improve his striking power. Projects as a multi-year Power 5 starter with the ability to be an impact player and leader of a top defense.

NO. 50 AMARI KIGHT, OT

247Sports Scouting Report:

Long offensive tackle that isn’t fat and still looks young developmentally. Well-proportioned physically, carrying healthy weight that will be shaped easily in college. Light-footed athlete that has fluidity for a big man. Has the length and agility combination to be an elite college tackle. More nimble than twitchy. Is not very technical and footwork needs a lot of polish. Adequate strength doesn’t always translate to overpowering play. Doesn’t play with a lot of natural knee-bend. Has some ‘boom or bust’ potential, but rare length and athleticism make him a likely power five starter and a potential Day Two NFL Draft pick.

NO. 69 JUSTIN EBOIGBE, SDE

247Sports Scouting Report:

Muscled-up build with big arms and lower body. Plays with outstanding first-step quickness and instincts, jumping the snap and shooting gaps to make plays in the backfield. Embraces contact and is physical in taking on blocks. Bowls over opposing offensive tackles and running backs who stay in to pass protect. Creates disruption in a variety of ways. Finishes plays with authority and violence. Has some of the more dominant senior film of defensive line prospects in the 2019 cycle. Has a swim move but will need to continue improving his hands at the next level as he can over rely on his bull rush and natural strength. Likely plays at a faster speed than he will test athletically. Could possibly grow into an interior defensive lineman. Projects as a multi-year starter at the Power 5 level with all-league potential later in his career. Projects as a day-two selection in the NFL Draft.

NO. 75 KHRIS BOGLE, WDE

247Sports Scouting Report:

Streamlined physique with exceptionally long arms that nearly hang to his knees. Slender build with room to pack on significant weight. Appears taller than he measures due to his length and build. Fluid speed rusher who uses his length and long stride to make plays in the backfield. Uses his range to track down plays in backside pursuit. Good athlete who should improve his explosion, strength and size with time in a college level strength and nutrition program. Will need time early in his career as he’s underdeveloped physically. Needs to continue getting stronger, which will aid in setting the edge and holding his ground at the point of attack. Projects as a late-career Power 5 starter who should see considerable improvement over the course of his college career with his best football being played as an upperclassman. Should hear his name called on the second day of the NFL draft.

NO. 79 SHANE LEE, ILB

247Sports Scouting Report:

Compact, sawed-off build. Throwback inside linebacker who excels as a downhill run defender. Has good instincts in reading keys. Strong form tackler who has the look of a productive defender at the next level. Solid athlete who can drop into coverage and make some plays in pursuit. Limited in terms of height/length and frame. Close to maxed out size-wise without losing some athleticism. Could be limited to playing as an early down defender. Projects as a Power 5 contributor and starter at many programs. Projects as a late NFL draft choice, in or around the fifth round.

NO. 88 BYRON YOUNG, SDE

247Sports Scouting Report:

Thick, muscular lineman with NFL frame built to play inside or occasionally outside on the line. Minimal bad weight on the road to 300 pounds. More athletic than appearance would suggest with speed and power to boot. Not twitchy but can beat blockers with finesse or strength. Heavy handed with some polish as a pocket pusher and overwhelming power at times. Destined to play inside. Could use lateral work to match vertical ability but should be physically ready to compete early in college career. Should become a multi-year starter at the Power 5 level and eventually a day-two type NFL draft selection.

NO. 94 JEFFERY CARTER, CB

247Sports Scouting Report:

Long, lean, and very athletic prospect who projects as a true cornerback at the high-major level. Wiry strong with the frame to add bulk and strength at the next level. Long-armed and gets hands on a lot of throws, despite often being avoided by opposing QB's. Explosive athlete who tested through the roof at The Opening Finals. Blazing speed in a combine environment combines with dynamic leaping ability. Experience playing receiver and ball skills show it. Turns and runs with terrific speed and tracks balls like a wideout. Requisite athleticism to be left on an island in man coverage. Shows awareness and breaking ability to thrive in zone. Confident and plays with swagger. High effort as a tackler. Will sometimes take unnecessary risks. Narrow-framed. Bigger, stronger receivers in college may be able to post him up, particularly in the red zone. Needs to add bulk and strength going to the high-major level. Senior season cut short by shoulder injury. Potential first-round draft ceiling.

Maybe 247's final update could put it over the 324.62 record.

Rivals would do a second final ranking to stop that.

NO. 100 DEMARCCO HELLAMS, S

247Sports Scouting Report:

Wide shoulders and is comfortable with 6-1, 203-pound frame. One-time receiver prospect bulked up and is strong, instinctive, can play in the box or free safety. Has ability to run down hill and make big hit at high rate of speed. Great body control with plus change of direction. Physical, fast and has good ball skills. Possesses closing speed in the passing and running games. Can line up as a nickel back and cover the slot. Jams well at the line when in man coverage. Shows loose hips to turn and run with receivers. Tracks the ball well. Gets off blocks on the edge and makes tackles. Very smart player who takes good angles. Needs to continue to develop his technique, particularly his footwork in transitioning from backpedal to running. Concern about how much more he can develop physically. Can start for two-plus years at an elite Power 5 school and is a second- to-fourth-round NFL draft prospect.

I've seen this from a few different people on Sanders. I'm not sure why this is a concern when from what I've seen he basically has an NFL ready body. Give him the coaching he will get here and targeted work under Cochran and he will be fine.

NO. 104 BRANDON TURNAGE, CB

247Sports Scouting Report:

Long, dynamic defensive back with frame and skill set to play throughout the secondary. An athlete with experience all over the field. Runs well. Fluid in transition and makes plays on the football. Fairly physical but could play with more aggression. Instinctive in coverage in man and zone concepts with impressive power through breaks. Above-average laterally and able to redirect enough to play cornerback though length and open-field feel lean projection more towards safety. Once filled out could contend as All-Conference type at the highest tier of Power 5 football. Position versatility should help him hear his name called on Day 2 when eligible for the NFL draft.

NO. 106 TAULIA TAGOVAILOA, QB

247Sports Scouting Report:

Shorter, compact frame, but does carry adequate weight. A solid athlete with good quickness and initial burst, but is not overly twitchy and has average long speed at best. Possesses a strong arm with the ability to generate substantial zip, particularly on short to intermediate passes. Capable of driving the ball down the middle of the field and making high difficulty far-hash throws. Arm strength and improvisational ability help him make creative off-platform plays. Accurate and gets the ball out quickly in the short passing game. Highly competitive. Doesn't make as many downfield throws as other top quarterback prospects with the majority of his yardage coming on short and intermediate passes. Can scramble for first downs but has yet to post good rushing numbers and can get in trouble at times when trying to extend plays. Power 5 starter ability with the upside of being a highly productive college quarterback at a top program.

NO. 114 KEVIN HARRIS, WDE

247Sports Scouting Report:

Thin edge rusher with good length and a lean frame. Good speed with above average combine testing. Most comfortable as a stand-up edge defender. Good get-off and edge speed. Extremely active and quick with hand usage. Has shown the ability to convert speed to power but much more comfortable as a speed rusher. Linear athlete that plays hard. Can impact the game with flash plays. Not overly versatile yet. Still needs to add strength to become a more complete player. High level Power 5 player with early to mid round NFL Draft potential.

NO. 124 MARCUS BANKS, CB

247Sports Scouting Report:

Long cornerback prospect with good height and wingspan. Possesses the frame to be on the bigger end of the corner spectrum, though narrow through the core and could be somewhat limited in bulking potential. Lean and athletic, but maybe a bit high-cut. Plays with impressive athleticism that has also been shown in a combine testing environment. Great top-end speed that helps in vertical coverage and makeup speed. Above average fluidity for a taller, longer cover man. Turns and locates the ball in the red zone. Instinctive corner with a feel for the position that bears out on tape. Must add bulk to improve overall strength and effectiveness when asked to press at the college level. At current size, could be overwhelmed by bigger, more physical receivers at the high-major level. Will need to clean up tackling technique and consistency. Potential to project to early rounds of NFL Draft.
