LINK ]First look: Tide early enrollees putting in work (BamaOnLine)

quote:

Alabama's mid-year enrollees have been arriving on campus over the course of the last nine days (some earlier than that), embarking upon their college careers.

In all, 15-16 first-year Crimson Tide signees are expected on campus this month to get a semester under their belts.

One of the major benefits to enrolling early, outside of practicing with the team in the spring, is getting into the weight room.

We saw a similar number of early enrollees in the 2017 class, and that proved to be of tremendous value looking back upon Alabama's 2017-18 season that culminated with several true freshmen playing critical roles in the Tide's national championship win over Georgia.

Of the Tide's early signing class, UA head coach Nick Saban was pleased:

“We’re really pleased with the signing today,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. “We were able to add 22 (24 when it was all said and done) players to the roster. We still have a few more that may come in. We do have some additional numbers that we can take guys, so don’t do your calculations and scare off everybody that we’re recruiting for February because we do have spots left and there are good players out there that we’re very much interested in and are interested in us.

“I think our staff, coaches, did a really good job. A recruiting cycle goes over a long period of time. We built a lot of really good relationships with a lot of really good players. I think we satisfied a lot of needs on our team”

Alabama recently extended offers to two 3-star TEs, LINK ]Brett Seither and Kyle Patterson. Patterson does not plan to visit Alabama, but Seither is seriously considering the Tide. He's taking an OV to Georgia this weekend and said his last OV on the 25th will "most likely” be Alabama, instead Penn St. His hometown is in rural Maryland, but he played at Clearwater (FL) Central Catholic.

I know it's a small thing but seither looks so much smoother running routes and just like more of an athlete. If we need a TE this class he seems like a nice late find.

Additional spot that might be available...

Maybe Alabama was able to use the voluntary withdrawal exception rule to give someone (e.g., Saivion Smith or Tevita Musika) a replacement scholarship for Mekhi Brown, who withdrew after the 2017 season. If so, it wouldn't have counted toward 2018's annual 25 limits (only the 85 limit) and would've left one more unused 2018 spot that a 2019 early enrollee could count against.
(NCAA Bylaw 15.5.6.4.1; additional explanation)

Top Ten performers, Alpha Dog from Day One at Polynesian Bowl

quote:

TEAM MAKAI TOP 5: RB TREY SANDERS

The five-star running back is a special talent and that was on full display during the two-hour workout. He had a one-handed snag in drills, then wowed those in attendance by hauling in an over-the-shoulder, 45-yard touchdown catch. Sanders has signed with Alabama.

TEAM MAUKA TOP 5: DB DEMARCCO HELLAMS

The Alabama signee was one of the best defensive players we saw on Tuesday and was a standout in the secondary for Team Mauka, showing great closing speed, coverage ability and willingness to come up in the box and lay a hit on the running back.

Tosh is visiting Henry To'oto'o after he returns from Hawaii.

Golding has been on the road as well.

247 analyst on Taulia Tagovailoa's performance yesterday at the Polynesian Bowl:

quote:

I’ll give him an incomplete because he spent the majority of the day jumping 7 feet in the air to reel in some errant shotgun snaps. He could never get set because he had defenders in his face by the time he either jumped or scooped up snaps.

But when they were doing routes on air he didn’t show any real signs of rust and was letting it spin.

If so, can you summarize this:

Rankings Week: Who deserves to make the jump into Rivals250?

quote:

Senior seasons are finished and the all-star games are in the rear-view mirror. It is now time to make arrangements for the final rankings of the 2019 class.

In today’s Making The Case, a few Rivals.com analysts offer statements on prospects they felt deserved to be included in the revamped Rivals250.

Christian Harris

Although Harris did not generate as many headlines as fellow linebackers Nolan Smith and Marcel Brooks, the future Alabama linebacker had a solid week in San Antonio from beginning to end and impressed us with his overall skill set. Harris was among the bigger linebackers playing in the All-American Bowl, but he was also among the fastest. In pass coverage Harris dropped quickly and effectively, closing off passing lanes and even making an interception during team 7-on-7 on Wednesday’s practice. His size, though, means Harris can hold up well at the point of attack, take on blockers and deliver the take-down blow on running backs of all sizes. Already a four-star prospect, Harris’ case for climbing into the Rivals250 is strong. – Midwest Recruiting Analyst Josh Helmholdt

Take this with a grain of salt because they said the same thing about Byron Young a few days ago in regards to him being in the Top 100 and then he wasn't when they released the rankings yesterday.
