Quotable: “I don’t really see another school that’s a better fit for me as far as the environment I want to be in and the people I want to surround myself with. Everyone has always known that Alabama has been a great running team, they’re always capable of running the ball. But now they have, I think, the best passing game and offense with the weapons that they have and who they have at quarterback. I’m really excited about that.”

LINK ]What's next for Alabama recruiting in 2019? (BamaOnLine | Dec 20)
quote:
Alabama signed 23 of its commitments in the 2019 class on Wednesday, and are holding very steady atop the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.
With the expectation of the Crimson Tide to sign roughly 28 in the cycle, it doesn’t take a math whiz to understand there are, give or take, five spots to be filled by Feb. 6.
The Tide’s class as a whole sits at 26 members, three of which — Byron Young, Keilan Robinson, and Christian Williams — did not sign on Wednesday. To be fair, they have until Friday (December 21) at midnight to sign, but the expectation is that they will hold out until February.
As we learned in the 2018 cycle, Tide commits that didn’t sign early, didn’t sign with Alabama — Bobby Brown (Texas A&M), Quay Walker (Georgia) and Vernon Jackson (Texas A&M). That’s not to say 2019 will be a repeat of last year.

Young, a 4-star defensive lineman, has never appeared to be a major flip risk, even when he opted to take his recruitment into February. The Magnolia State native’s high school team made a state championship run and he didn’t have a lot of time to take the visits he wanted to take. We’ll be watching him closely next month with potential visits to LSU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State on deck.
Robinson, a 4-star running back from Washington D.C., opted not to sign early … but nobody in his program did. The longtime Tide commit has never expressed that he’s wavering, however, he doesn’t talk much, which often leads to speculation, especially with his primary recruiter Mike Locksley no longer in Tuscaloosa. He may take some visits next month. The Tide signed the nation’s No. 1 running back on Wednesday in Trey Sanders.
Williams has always said he planned to take visits. He didn’t get an opportunity to use an official visit this fall and plans to do so in January to schools like LSU and Alabama. He’s maintained his commitment is solid, but nothing is more of an indicator to be wary than commitments that don’t sign early — and that goes for all three. We’ll be tracking this trio closely in the weeks to come.
Here, BamaOnLine takes a look at the notable names to keep an eye on heading into National Signing Day.

ISHMAEL SOPSHER, 5-STAR DT,
AMITE (LA)
![]()
There are seven teams involved for nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle, but it’s likely coming down to Alabama and LSU, which is how we anticipated this to go for a while now.
Alabama has held the edge throughout the fall, but with Sopsher not planning to sign early, you can’t discount the Tigers who are making it a priority to keep the 5-star home.
Alabama has had success at Amite High School and the region in general, signing DeVonta Smith in 2017 and Shyheim Carter in 2016 out of Kentwood. The Tide has picked up several 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions recently.

DARNELL WRIGHT, 5-STAR OT,
HUNTINGTON (WV)

No matter how Alabama’s offensive line class shapes up come February 6, it’s one of the strongest groups in the 2019 cycle already, especially with the addition of 5-star tackle Evan Neal on Wednesday. If Wright were to join that fold, that’s an all-timer type of class. However, it’s Tennessee that holds that momentum heading into the new year. Alabama and Georgia will work to make it tough on the Vols, though.

HENRY TO'OTO'O, 4-STAR LB,
CONCORD (CA) DE LA SALLE

You could make a strong argument that To’oto’o is the most important target remaining for Alabama, especially after Nakobe Dean signed with Georgia. Alabama signed two very talented inside linebackers in Christian Harris and Shane Lee, but certainly will not stop its efforts there.
To’oto’o, a product of California high school powerhouse De La Salle, is considering six schools, but the programs most often mentioned are Alabama, Tennessee, and Washington. The Huskies got the Top100 prospect on campus earlier this year; Utah hosted him prior to the Early Signing Period.
To'oto'o has said all along that the Tide and the Volunteers would receive visits. Alabama is the heavy 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite.

KHRIS BOGLE, 4-STAR WDE, FORT LAUDERDALE (FL) CARDINAL GIBBONS

Alabama lost ace South Florida recruiter Mario Cristobal to Oregon prior to National Signing Day in 2017. What did it do? Hired Joe Pannunzio and cemented its standing even more so in the region in the following class, signing Patrick Surtain II and Josh Jobe along with Xavier Williams.
On Wednesday, Alabama signed two South Florida standouts in Braylen Ingraham and Jordan Battle. Could Bogle be next? It’s certainly possible, especially considering the Tide did not sign either edge rusher target between Kayvon Thibodeaux and Nolan Smith.
The Tide was trending coming out of his official visit to Tuscaloosa last month. A decision between Alabama, Florida, Miami, and Tennessee is expected on January 5.

Pickering is committed to the Bulldogs, but has continued expressing interest in other programs, especially Alabama. The 4-star defensive lineman has visited the Capstone three times this fall and will be back in January for an official visit. He’s consistently said Bama is No. 2 in his recruitment and has the best shot to flip him from MSU.

Alabama has two running backs committed in Sanders (signed) and Robinson, but as mentioned above, what if Robinson elects to go elsewhere? Does that open the door for Glass? The Lone Star State native named Bama his top school after his official visit in November. He’s also considering Ohio State and Oklahoma State ahead of a January 14 decision.

The one-time LSU commit is going to be one of the most sought after remaining prospects on the recruiting trail in January. Many believe the Aggies hold an edge for the Houston area product. If the Tide pushes, it’s going to be a tough out come February. We’ll know Banks’ decision, however, at the All-American Bowl on January 5.

Pola-Gates has been a heavy Alabama lean for most of 2018. However, with the latest developments at defensive back in the last few weeks, it’s not clear whether the Arizona product will end up in Tuscaloosa. Pola-Gates will announce a decision on at the Polynesian Bowl next month. Nebraska and USC appear to be the biggest threat to Alabama if it wishes to continue pursuing Pola-Gates.

Slade was a all purpose player in HS, But mostly he was a running QB, Bama recruited him as a Slot WR. So with that said, he would be mostly a "scatback" if not in the Slot. In a pinch he could be a Josh Jacobs without the up the gut ability

It’s clear Alabama wants to add another one or two defensive linemen in 2019 with the way they’ve approached things. Harrison-Hunte reported an Alabama offer last month and will likely take an official visit to Tuscaloosa the weekend before National Signing Day after defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski stopped at his school. A spot in Bama’s class could be determined by other defensive linemen’s decisions, though.
