No. 133 Jayson Jones, Fultondale (Ala.) High

-- Another versatile offensive weapon who plays quarterback (and yes, another Jayson Jones in the same class and state), the slippery play-maker projects best at wide receiver at this time. He has great ability to accelerate and make plays in space, part of the reason LSU and several others are already represented on his offer list.

No. 175 Robby Ashford, Hoover (Ala.) High

-- Though yet to establish himself as the starter for the top program in the state, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound dual-threat quarterback has been among the most talked about prospects in the state for a year already. He'll have the chance to explode as a junior, but his high ceiling and flashes of potential has already netted him offers from Georgia, Missouri, NC State, Illinois and others. Ashford is an accomplished baseball player and devotes a lot of his time to that sport, making many wonder how good he can be on the gridiron down the road.

No. 177 Kris Abrams-Draine, Spanish Fort (Ala.) High

-- A recent pledge to LSU, this long and lean athlete plays all over the field. He has dabbled at defensive back, running back, quarterback and shines as a return man, but wide receiver is the most likely position come college time. Few prospects in the state have his top-end speed but what makes Abrams-Draine special is his ability after the catch along with it. He can stop on a dime and change direction better than most.

Any updates on JUCO or grad-tfer DL? I'd really love to grab that Clemson kid. We really need another body or two in the depth chart for 2018 at DL.

None of these kids will be able to enroll until after they graduate. Usually May/June. So most will take their time. Probably hear something closer to A-Day.

No. 213 Trenton Yowe, Calera (Ala.) High

-- Somehow without an offer to his name just yet, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound secondary man makes plays in both man and zone coverage as well as against the run. He has a special feel for the football in space and can close like an elite safety with some pop at the point of contact to go along with it. Also a potential cornerback at the next level, Yowe has been hosted by Georgia of late and will make his way to Middle Tennessee State this weekend. Offer No. 1 won't evade him much longer.

No. 237 Roydell Williams, Hueytown (Ala.) High

-- Alabama leads for the balanced running back prospect, now up to a dozen scholarship offers. Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss and many others have already jumped in for the 5-foot-9, 195-pounder. Armed with breakaway speed and very good power on a compact frame, Williams broke out during his sophomore season to the tune of more than 1,500 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns.

Looking at these lists, Birmingham went from a black hole of talent over the last 15 years to the epicenter of talent in the state.

2020 Michigan OG gets a Bama offer

Ohio State and LSU, in my opinion, are the top two, but Bama now joins them at the top of his list. No. 54 in yesterday's initial Top247 for his class.

I try not to go get too giddy over the instate talent for 2019, but I can't see how Alabama doesn'tsign 10-12 from instate in this class.

247Sports Alabama rankings

Imo, Bama should land these guys:
#1 Clay Webb
#2 Pierce Quick
#4 Christian Williams
#5 Amari Kight
#7 Taulia Tagovailoa
#8 Vonta Bentley
#9 Mohamoud Diabate
#10 Paul Tyson
#13 DJ Dale
#16 LeDarrius Cox (maybe blue or greyshirt)
#55 Will Reichard

I think Bama will land 2 safeties who are better than #11 Trikweze Bridges.

Imo, Bama should try to flip #6 George Pickens (big WR) from AU.

The latest with Rivals250 DL C.J. Clark

quote:

Rivals250 defensive tackle C.J. Clark has an impressive offer sheet and the two most recent offers for the New London (N.C.) North Stanly star come from a pair of SEC teams.

IN HIS OWN WORDS…

“My newest offers are from Georgia and Tennessee,” Clark said. “Georgia is a nice school. I like coach Smart and coach Tray Scott. They seem like good people. I visited one time and it was a nice place.

“Tennessee is a nice school too,” he said. “I haven’t been up there in a while. I was there last summer for a camp but I’ve never really been around the school.

“I’ve been talking to coach Shibest from Virginia Tech a little bit,” said Clark. “He’s been sending me a bunch of pictures and schedules showing what they are doing. He wants me to know that they are really interested in me. I’m pretty sure they are getting close to offering. I don’t know much about the school right now.

“I don’t have any visits set up or a commitment date right now,” he said. “I’m still looking at all my schools and trying to figure things out.”

RIVALS’ REACTION…

Clark generally keeps recruiting information to himself but most people believe he will end up staying pretty close to home at one of the in-state schools or South Carolina. Virginia Tech could be a contender if they were to offer but Georgia and Tennessee are very intriguing offers for Clark. He will surely visit both schools at least one more time before all is said and done.

JJ27, if you're lurking, what's the deal with that Max Hunter kid from West Monroe?

Glancing at the LSURb it appears he has transferred because he didn't get an award at the football banquet. Is that true?

There’s a lot of stuff there. He was a great RB as a freshman. He moved from WM to Neville then back to WM as a freshman. Started off the year hot on returns. Had some issues fumbling the ball and was moved to CB. Sometimes they let him return, others they didn’t. It was kinda weird how many kids they stuck back there to return. Left after the banquet to go to Neville. Will likely play RB for them.

I wish him luck. At the end of the day, he’s just a kid looking for what he and his family thinks is the best opportunity for his future.

How many will be participating in the Spring Game? Seemed like there weren’t a whole lot of EEs this year.

In my 5 1/2 years at Fultondale as assistant football coach, we NEVER had the run of athletes that they have produced lately!! Don't get me wrong! We had some really good kids and hard workers, just not Ardarrius Stewart type kids.

Top-200 overall LB Mohamoud Diabate enjoys first visit to Florida

quote:

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Top-200 overall recruit Mohamoud Diabate visited Florida for the first time Wednesday.

The 4-star linebacker from Auburn, Ala., received an offer from the Gators two months ago and has been building a relationship with the coaching staff. After visiting Florida State on Tuesday, Diabate made the trip down to Gainesville with his parents in tow.

“It was a great experience being at Florida and checking out the facilities, the campus and talking to the coaches,” he told SEC Country. “Florida has been recruiting me for a couple months. I’m interested in what they’re doing and what they could be in the future with the new coaches.

“I just wanted to check out the university because I’ve never been, so I decided to come down here for me family and check it out. They loved it, especially the education portion of the visit. They loved the campus and they thought it was an amazing place.”

Diabate said he wanted to see the education aspect of the college and learn more about the Gators’ 3-4 defense. After spending the day on campus and asking questions, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect feels that Florida is a fit for him both academically and athletically.

“I talked to one of the advisors in the college of engineering and he gave me some valuable advice,” Diabate said. “We toured the academic center and it really impressed me. It was brand new and up to date. They had tutors and everything I would need as a student-athlete at the university. I was really happy with what I saw.

“The coaches answered all the football questions I had through film. Just seeing pure tape of the defense helped me understand what it’s about and what my position does. I’ll be the Will linebacker, so I’ll play on the weakside and on third downs I’ll rush the passer. Watching the film really helped me answer those questions.”

Diabate is ranked the nation’s No. 14 outside linebacker and No. 191 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite. He plans to make his decision during the early signing period and claims no leaders at this time, with offers from schools such as Alabama, FSU, LSU and Michigan.

Florida coach Dan Mullen, defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and defensive line coach Sal Sunseri are all recruiting Diabate in a group effort.

“I talked to Coach Mullen, Coach Grantham and Coach Sunseri on a regular basis. I’m talking to one of them almost every day,” Diabate said. “I have a good relationship with all three of them and I can tell that they want me to be part of the program. That makes me really happy and I’ll be back for another visit sooner or later.”
