Future 50 Top Performers

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Under Armour Future 50 Underclassmen Combine took place on Saturday afternoon in Camping World Stadium. 247Sports was on hand to bring you the top performers from the camp.

ALPHA DOG
Oxford (Ala.) offensive center Clay Webb dominated his one-on-one reps stuffing any and all that lined up across from him. The 6-foot-2, 290-pounder overpowered interior linemen and simply locked down the pass rush as soon as he got his hands on the defender. Webb has above average quickness and athleticism for an interior linemen. In-state Alabama and Auburn are fighting for his commitment while Georgia is also in the mix.
quote:
3. OG Deyavie Hammond: The Alabama commitment was another interior lineman that excelled during one-on-one reps. The 6-foot-4, 320-pounder out of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy bullies defensive tackles and delivers a powerful initial punch.
quote:
2. LB Owen Pappoe: The most explosive linebacker in the camp, Pappoe looked excellent during position drills and really flashed during seven-on-seven play. The 6-foot, 210-pound Loganville (Ga.) Grayson product closed on a throw to the flats for a pass breakup, and he then sniffed out a swing pass for what would have been a big hit during a live game. The five-star recruit high on Georgia and Clemson certainly lived up to that billing Thursday.
LINK
Two Things:
1) I will throw Brick Haley through Brent Key's office window if he whiffs on Clay Webb. He makes it look so easy.
2) Good GOD Grayson HS is loaded in 2019. Owen Pappoe, Wanya Morris, Kevin Harris, Ronald Thompkins, and Kenyon Jackson are all 4* or higher.

There is a video of Michael Thompson at the end of that article. He looks legit. Isn't he visiting us?

Rivals100 DT Michael Thompson has a team in mind
quote:
SAN ANTONIO - St. Louis defensive tackle Michael Thompson was one of 32 prospects in the Rivals100 who did not sign in the early period, but as January begins the four-star is starting to see one temam emerge.
“I have a good feeling of where I want to go,” Thompson said. “I am going to take a couple visits, though, to make sure that I am set and that I’ll be good wherever I choose to go.”
Thompson is keeping that school he has a good feeling about to himself for now. He took official visits to USC and Missouri already, and has a couple schools he wants to see before the February signing period.
“I know for sure I am going to Miami and Alabama,” he said. “I still have to pick on that fifth one.”
Nebraska has a chance to be that fifth and final official visit. The Cornhuskers were a strong contender early in the process for Thompson, and have resumed their interest under new head coach Scott Frost.
“I am trying to contemplate if I want to do an official there,” Thompson said. “They just were talking about how they need someone my size up front to play as a run-stopper and pass rusher.”
USC was the first school Thompson officially visited back in November. He made that trip with fellow St. Louis defensive tackle and friend Trevor Trout, who subsequently committed to the Trojans.
“(Trout) just tells me to make the best choice for me,” Thompson said. “I talk to Coach K.U., the d-line coach, a lot. I talk to him about every other day, not just about recruiting, but about life.”
The most recent official visit Thompson took was to the home-state Missouri Tigers the weekend of Dec. 8.
“(Mizzou) just felt different because it was close to home and I am real familiar with the players because some of them are from St. Louis,” Thompson said. “I am familiar with the coaches because I am always around them and I always go there. Not only did I like it, but my mom liked it. She liked Coach (Brick) Haley a lot.”
Thompson said there are no other teams serious under consideration outside of the Alabama, Miami, Missouri, Nebraska and USC. He could wait to announce his decision on National Signing Day.

Cade Foster cost Bama two SEC Titles, 2 West Titles, a third straight trip to the BCS National Championship Game, possibly a 3rd straight national title, a undeafted season in 11, and probably cost Trent and AJ Heisman Trophys.
One player cost Bama so much with all those damn missed field goals.

5-star CB Tyson Campbell has 2 official visits set ahead of decision
quote:
Tyson Campbell to visit Alabama this month
Tyson Campbell has been considered Alabama’s top cornerback target for several months. Campbell visited Tuscaloosa in the summer, and Alabama was considered the favorite then.
He hasn’t visited Tuscaloosa since the summer, but Campbell, a 5-star prospect out of American Heritage High School (Plantation, Fla.) will return to campus in two weeks when he takes an official visit on Jan. 19. He’ll visit Georgia on Jan. 12. Those schools, along with Miami, are considered the main programs in the mix. Campbell also lists Clemson and Ohio State as schools he’s considering, but those two are long shots.
As of now, the only two schools he’ll take visits to this month are the two programs competing for a national title.
“I don’t know if I can fit all five in,” Campbell told SEC Country at the Army Bowl practices in San Antonio.
Of note, Campbell, who at one point this fall was thought to be leaning toward Miami, had this to say about what it would mean to play for the in-state school.
“It doesn’t mean that much,” Campbell said. “Some players, it may not be best for them to stay home. If I stay home, it’ll be best for my family to see me, but it may be best for me to just go out to other places.”
Sometimes this doesn’t matter and sometimes it does, but it’s a good thing for the Tide to get Campbell’s visit after he visits the Bulldogs. I’m sure Georgia will have lots of momentum after his trip there next weekend, but then Alabama has a chance to stifle the Bulldogs’ momentum the following weekend.

Alabama signee, commitment, target stats
The Under Armour All-America Game kicked off Thursday night in Orlando, Fla. Several of Alabama’s signees showed up. Here is how each of them performed:
Signees
5-star Jack linebacker Eyabi Anoma notched 4 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 quarterback hurries in the game. Anoma was an absolute freak all week in practice. I would be surprised if this guy doesn’t see the field in some capacity next season. Just look at his first step on this sack, in which he zoomed by 5-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere, who, in my opinion, was the best offensive lineman there: video.
4-star offensive lineman Tommy Brown sustained a broken finger during the game. He didn’t return to action after getting injured.
4-star Jack linebacker Jordan Davis had 2 tackles, including 1 for a loss. The highlight of Davis’ day came when his father, who was serving in the Marines, surprised him prior to the game: video.
4-star wide receiver Xavier Williams caught 2 passes for 46 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter from Auburn QB commit Joey Gatewood: video. There were lots of questions on Williams’ hands entering the week. I thought Williams was a standout all week in practice. He made several tough catches and showed a knack to get open.
4-star defensive lineman Stephon Wynn tallied 1 tackle.

Targets
4-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland caught 1 pass for 7 yards. Copeland also had a punt return for 11 yards. He lost a fumble, too.
4-star wide receiver Justyn Ross caught 2 passes for 13 yards.
5-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere had 2 tackles in the game. Petit-Frere had a rough game on the offensive line, but was extraordinary in 1-on-1s in practice.
4-star two-way prospect Josh Moore played offense during the game and caught one pass for 6 yards.

Cade Foster shet the bed vs the Barn in 2013....from the get go. That is documented.

Can't say it isn't true. 4 missed field goals in the first LSU game in 11 and 3 or 4 in the 13 Iron Bowl.
Field goals matter quite a bit when two evenly matched teams are playing.
Bama's run from 11-13 was epic, but with a good kicker it would have been the greatest 3 year run in college football history.
A 41-1 record, 26-1 against SEC teams.
3 National Championships, 3 SEC titles, 3 West Titles, 11 and 13 teams undeafted, 2 more Heisman trophies. Would have also had a six game win streak over Auburn.

Cade was the best example of how kicking is such a mental game. I've posted the numbers before, but for his entire career in games Alabama won by more than a TD, his accuracy was around 75%.
In games Bama won by less than a TD or lost, he was IIRC 2/11.

Sucks that he wasn't better, but you could go back and look at the drives that led to those missed FGs and likely find a missed block that prevented a first down, a hold that backed us up, an over throw, a dropped pass, a missed hole, etc.
It's never on one player man.

Kickers are just always easy for some casusal fan to blame. People should be ashamed, but they're not. Leigh Tiffin became an All-American kicker by 2008-2009, but was treated awful after his missed kicks at Arkansas in 2006.
Posted on 1/5/18 at 9:59 am to bamasgot13
Speaking of kickers, any grad transfer kickers out there that Bama could get for next year?
From what I heard about the kicker Bama signed last year, field goals might not even be a option next year.

When you miss that many kicks at the end of the game, including the extra point, I think criticism is fair.
Tiffin's game against Arkansas in 06 ranks up there with the Foster's LSU game in 11 and the Iron Bowl in 13.

Alpha Dog, top performers from Thursday's Army Bowl practice
quote:
SAN ANTONIO – In the last padded tune-up before the Army All-American Bowl, the East squad didn’t lack for competitive energy. It was the first practice outdoors, it was the sloppiest practice to date and yet there were still some guys that really flashed as no-doubt top performers.
Alpha Dog
This week has been a statement week for Xavier Thomas. The five-star, top-ranked defensive end has been unblockable, but even more importantly, he has been consistent. He shows up every practice, shows up every rep and continues to disrupt. On Thursday, Thomas was disruptive to the point of making it really difficult for the East squad to even execute offensively. Thomas is a Clemson commit.
The Next 10
1. Trey Hill, OG – During the inside run drill, Hill was regularly moving big defenders out of the way and opening up big holes. The Georgia signee is a road-grader who is deceptively athletic for his size and has shown the ability to set the tone up front in the run game.
2. Tyson Campbell, CB – It’s rare if we ever see a pass completed on Campbell’s side of the field. When the ball was thrown his way on Thursday he either forced overthrows or got his hands on it. Georgia and Alabama are battling for a guy who’s already high stock continues to rise.
3. Dax Hollifield, ILB – Hollifield is probably the least athletic linebacker here but he is a probably the most instinctive. A 4.9, can become a 4.7 with .2 seconds quicker recognition and that’s the sort of skillset Hollifield brings to the table. The best example of that was on a screen play that Hollifield sniffed out for a tackle for loss in the team period.
4. Jayson Ademilola, DT – Maybe the quickest defensive tackle in the game, Ademilola showcased that athleticism again on Thursday with his penetrating ability. At Notre Dame, where they employ a penetrating defense, Ademilola is a perfect scheme fit.
5. Trevor Lawrence, QB – It wasn’t the best day at quarterback for the East but Lawrence still looked consistent and made some big throws look easy. Lawrence was particularly effective hitting on some deeper out routes and corner routes.
6. James Cook, RB/WR – I’m not even sure Cook is a running back. He may have a long term future at wide receiver. He lined up at receiver during 7on7 and he’s indistinguishable as a route-runner and pass-catcher from the other receivers. In fact, he was one of the best on Thursday in that role.
7. Josh Belk, DT – Another talented Clemson defensive lineman, where Thomas was terrorizing the edge, Bellk was disrupting the middle. He’s a barrel-chested, powerful kid and as a stout, run-stopping defensive tackle, he may be the best in San Antonio.
8. Adam Anderson, OLB – Anderson is undersized and the Georgia commit may not be ready to play from day one at Georgia but he is very active, very athletic, and he throws his body around for a kid that doesn’t have a lot of weight behind it. He will be a scary pass rusher with the righ development.
9. Ricky Person, RB – Without full-speed tackling, it’s hard to get a feel for how good these running backs are but what I really like about Person is his ability – even as a big back – to make plays in the pass game and do something with the football after the catch. The N.C. State signee had a few nice moments in that regard on Thursday.
10. Josh Vann, WR – Vann was one of the most athletic and effective route-runners on Thursday and he was regularly getting open both downfield and on the goalline in some of the underneath routes against the defensive backs. The South Carolina signee is proving that he’s much more than just a slot guy.

West observations, Alpha Dog from Thursday's Army Bowl practice
Man I am so glad we prioritized Dominick Wood-Anderson over Luke Ford. He is going to look so good in Crim...
Oh yeah. He fricking signed with Tennessee.
quote:
SAN ANTONIO -- The West team mostly worked on install and special teams at the Blossom Athletic Center on Thursday, so we did not have enough intel to do a true top performers piece, but there were some players who popped during the team and seven-on-seven sessions. The offensive and defensive linemen did not do one-on-ones and only worked briefly on inside run, so they were not included in the report below.
Alpha Dog
Georgia signee Luke Ford may be the most important man on the West roster. The 6-foot-6, 248-pound tight end from Carterville (Ill.) is the lone tight end for the West and he is being used in every way that you can imagine. I think he ultimately spends most of the time as a H-Back in the game, but he has also been working on in-line stuff and has the size to be a key blocker on the edge in the run game. In goal line situations look for him to split out and be a top red zone option for the West quarterbacks and he caught a couple of touchdown passes today within that scenario in seven-on-seven action this morning.
Practice Observations and Notes
The two top performers of the first couple of practices -- WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and WR Jaylen Waddle -- continued their impressive showings on Thursday.
Bellaire (Texas) Episcopal's Jaylen Waddle continued to jump out in drills. He is just an electric specimen as a slot wide receiver and look for the West coaching staff to create ways for him to get his hands on the football on Saturday. The strength of the team is at wide receiver with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Brian Hightower, and Brennan Eagles also standing out. Waddle makes nice adjustments to the football in the air and is lightning quick off the line. He is already rated as one of the top players in the state of Texas checking in as the No. 51 prospect nationally, but he could possibly trend up even higher as the final rankings shake out.
Amon-Ra St. Brown spent a lot of time in the practice working with special teams as the punt return man, but it did not take him long to make his presence felt once he jumped over to offense during the team drills. He caught the first two passes of the practice and both were big plays. he had a one-handed reception over the top of Anthony Cook and then followed that up with a catch over the top of LSU-bound defender Kelvin Joseph on the sideline. St. Brown is rated as the No. 12 prospect overall nationally per the 247Sports Composite and is considering schools like Notre Dame, Stanford, and USC.
Texas defensive back signee Caden Sterns from Cibolo (Texas) Steele had a couple of wow moments on the practice field. The first came in the seven-on-seven period where he snagged an interception on the second play and later on full team he delivered the pop of the day coming downhill versus Chase Cota on a pass play into the flats. West defensive back coach Jim Camarillo (Saguaro, Ariz.) applauded Sterns for his versatility after the practice.
It would be hard to handicap who the starter may actually be at quarterback for the West on the first offensive series. Tanner McKee may have been the most consistent throughout the three days of practice we have watched so far, but JT Daniels may have the highest overall potential. However, Ole Miss signee Matt Corral had his strongest day of practice in the elements on Thursday. He showed good zip on his passes and was working well outside of the pocket on designed rollouts. In the team period he was the first quarterback in and was in tune with wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Brian Hightower.
The play of the practice may have been when USC linebacker signee Raymond Scott tipped a pass to one-time LSU pledge Kelvin Joseph. On the play Scott was defending tight end Luke Ford and was just able to get a hand in to deflect the pass off of Ford's leg. The pass popped up into the air and Joseph secured the interception.

Five-Star DE Kayvon Thibodeaux Planning Early Decision
quote:
Kayvon Thibodeaux is one of the elite prospects in the 2019 national class.
He's currently rated the No. 1 player nationally in the 247Sports Composite and had a very good junior season, racking up 20 sacks and showing the athleticism to run down plays from behind as well.
He worked out today at the UA Future 50 (video coming soon), taking reps at both end and tackle. We like him better coming off the edge and feel he's athletic enough to even play OLB in a 3-4.
We caught up with Thibodeaux following the event and the talented athlete has a busy spring/summer ahead of him.
"I haven't cut my list yet but I'm trying, I'm really trying hard," Thibodeaux said. "There a lot of variables for me but it's becoming a big headache but my family and I are working on it and we'll get it done.
"A few schools I know that will make my list will be Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, USC, UCLA and Michigan. That's not a top list or anything, just a few schools that I feel good about right now. I have Bama winning the National Championship and I like how they play. A&M has produced some good defensive ends and I'm looking forward to building that relationship more."
Thibodeaux has already visited LSU and has a few other schools in mind for spring/summer visits.
"LSU was a great trip, I had a lot of fun there," Thibodeaux said. "It's SEC football, it's big time there. I love the fans, the stadium, they pack it in there and it's a great atmosphere. That's the kind of atmosphere that I would like to play in.
"I want to visit Alabama for sure and maybe Georgia or Clemson if I have time. I want to get out to Washington and Michigan as well. Jim Harbaugh came to see me play this past season and I like him and their staff a lot. It's a great school, a great program with a great tradition and I have interest for sure."
Locally, UCLA and USC are making a big push and the Trojans have always been the perceived leader for Thibodeaux.
"USC ha a great program but it's more than football with them," Thibodeaux said. "It's a local school that I'm comfortable with and it's a great academic school as well.
"UCLA is in there too and I think Chip Kelly will do a good job. They have done a nice job putting players in to the NFL and it's a nice school overall that like USC, is close to home and strong academically. I'm planning to make a commitment this summer before my senior year. I want to be able to focus on my senior year so I want to get it done early."
