I think Cox just wanted to stay close to home.

I'm way more pissed about missing out on Coynis Miller, an in-state DT, than I am a kid from Georgia. Rankings aside.

What reality? The one that sidewalk fans have created since becoming fans post 2009?

That should be it. Four did not sign as expected. Still 2-4 spots to fill by NSD in February.

The one where Alabama is the number 1 class for 7 years in a row, and is now second in the conference to a team having a historic recruiting cycle who also happens to neighbor the state.

Exactly. Not sure why losing out on Brenton Cox, who wasn't even in play until recently, is a microcosm to some perceived down year or end of days scenario.

Dominick Wood-Anderson has gone into hiding.

Alabama isn't even finished with their class. And exactly how long did you expect a string of #1 classes to last?
The reality is filling positions of need and development of that talent. The icing is the recruiting rankings. And if you're upset over a top five class, you have issues.

Perceived down year =/= end of days. It is objectively a down year. Not even an argument there. Not an end of days scenario though.
Losing Cox is bad because he was only in play for anyone not named OSU for a brief period and it looked good for Alabama. Losing Coynis Miller to Auburn also sucks, but it hasn't been a good year at the DT spot.
