What to make of Alabama LB commit Quay Walker’s comments on Auburn
Quay Walker hasn’t been in my mock Alabama defensive signing class for several months now. It’s not because the Crimson Tide don’t want him, like offensive lineman Jarrett Bell, who backed off his “commitment” over the weekend. Alabama really wants Walker to stick with his commitment. The staff believes Walker has the ability and mentality to play any linebacker spot in the Tide’s 3-4 base defense.
But the reason why I haven’t included Walker in the Tide’s mock signing class has always centered around him taking trips elsewhere, with Auburn being the most notable destination for his recruiting visits.
Walker, a 4-star prospect from Crisp County High School (Cordele, Ga.), has visited Auburn numerous times since becoming a top recruit. The Tigers signed one of Walker’s best friends and former teammates in the 2017 class in Markaviest Bryant. Those two still talk almost daily. When Bryant signed with Auburn last year, most in the recruiting industry expected Walker to follow Bryant when it was time to make his decision.
Walker, however, committed to Alabama in an SEC Country commitment video last spring. That hasn’t stopped Walker from taking visits elsewhere. He was back at Auburn this past weekend for the Tigers’ game against Georgia, where he told SEC Country’s Benjamin Wolk that he is still strongly considering Auburn.
“Oh, Auburn’s still got a shot,” Walker said. “Auburn always impresses me at all times.”
The most interesting comment Walker made was probably his intentions to not sign his letter of intent during the early signing period. It’s going to be interesting to see how schools handle their verbal commitments not making their decision official during that early signing period. To me, that just tells the school that the player truly isn’t 100 percent committed if he needs more time to figure out his recruitment.
While it may appear that Walker isn’t solid with the Tide, SEC Country was told by a source close to the program earlier this week that the staff still expects him to stick with his commitment. The Under Armour All-American hasn’t given any indication to the staff that he’ll back off his pledge. But Auburn is going to remain in Walker’s mind, especially after a dominant performance over what was the No. 1 team in the country.
“The defense was something I pretty much expected. With the offense, everything clicked,” Walker said of Auburn’s 40-17 victory against Georgia. “This win, I didn’t expect a blowout like this or a close game. I really didn’t know who was going to win at first. At the same time, I thought it was going to be a close game.”
The nation’s No. 6 outside linebacker will return to Auburn in two weeks for the Iron Bowl and is planning on taking an official visit there on top of that trip. So, he’ll see Auburn at least two more times before officially signing his letter of intent in February. Walker has visited Tuscaloosa twice this fall and is expected to take an official visit after the season.
This recruitment is going to be tight, but, from what I’ve been hearing on Alabama’s side, I’m starting to think Walker ends up remaining in the Tide’s class.

What if Quay Walker flips to Auburn?
The question in the subhead remains possible; although, I believe Alabama is going to make sure that doesn’t happen after losing out on two main targets to the Tigers already in this class in 4-star defensive tackle Coynis Miller and 4-star running back Asa Martin.
But, if Walker does flip, Alabama is still in good position with several linebackers in this class which would weaken the blow of losing him.
The Tide are in good position to flip 4-star linebacker Brandon Kaho from BYU. Kaho visited for the LSU game and sources close to the Alabama program believe a flip is definitely a possibility. Alabama is also expected to land the nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker, JJ Peterson, when he makes his commitment. The Tide also remain in good shape to get a commitment from 4-star Jack linebacker Eyabi Anoma.
The team will also host 5-star Jack linebacker KJ Henry in December for an official visit. Henry is set to announce his commitment on Dec. 20.
As you can see, there are several options for the Tide at linebacker if Walker decides to change his mind on Alabama.

Bet you won’t meet me at Sonic.

If you look at Caleb Tremblays updated highlights from his Twitter, I see why he has fallen down on Bamas DL list. He’s number 55 instead of 93 he looks like he lost a lot of weight, and isn’t getting any push like last yrs highlights. Not the same to me , I’d pass too if he’s bringing that to the SEC

I thought they were comparing him to Suh? Saying he was crazy dominant?

The Suh comments I knew was BS.

I was looking at our depth chart and I think we will be fine next year even without Payne. I do think in 2019 we will need a couple studs. What DT's in 2019 are we favored for right now

I don't agree. We have missed the past couple of cycles.
We need to hit in DT this cycle. It is a must. We also need to hit on two more high quality DBs.

Didn't know you could tell my tone through these post.
Actually you can, but sorry for the teacher coming out in me.
In all seriousness though I am just giving you a hard time as I mentioned you do not bash so nothing you say bothers me.

No worries. It's all good

Dang. Only 2 true DL in this class? Either we are getting badly out worked on the recruiting trail or the blue chippers somehow aren't aware of how thin we will be. If Payne leaves and we add Wynn and Barmore, we will only have 8 DL on scholarship. If Fox isn't a true DL or can't grow into one I'd pass. We have enough WDE's that ended up as OLB's. Hopefully Parks puts on a lot of muscle so he can be a DE and Kedrick James gets moved to DE.
Also, hopefully Saivion Smith and Jobe are as good as advertised since we only have a few true corners that will be returning.

I like Savion Smith, but what about Jobe? How does our staff compare him with Tyson C, and Patrick Surtain? Could he come in and play right away?

I dont think any of our current DT targets could come in and play right away, maybe im wrong?

He is and he will.
He's already 6-4 250. He will grow into a combo DT. A perfect fit for a 3-4 scheme.

What is the deal on Teair Tart-Spencer. His highlights are very good and he is listed as the #1 Juco and DT in the country. Also looks like we lead according to his profile but I can not find him on a roster anywhere.

Didn’t he get in trouble for domestic violence.
