Christian Barmore, 4-star DT, Neumann Goretti High School (Philadelphia)
There may not be a hotter 2018 prospect than Barmore. He has received offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Mississippi State in the last few weeks. After watching his film, I’m shocked that this kid wasn’t on major schools’ radar a long time ago.
The former Temple commit plans on taking an official visit to Tuscaloosa at some point. He is one to closely watch.

Robert Cooper, 4-star DT, South Gwinnett High School (Snellville, Ga.)
Cooper is committed to Florida State, but he recently told SEC Country that he’s also considering Alabama and Georgia. There have been some rumblings that he may reopen his recruitment.

Keondre Coburn, 4-star DT, Westfield High School (Houston) — committed to Texas
Coburn visited Tuscaloosa in late July but decided to commit to Texas a few weeks later. He has maintained communication with the Alabama staff and will return to campus on Nov. 4 for an official visit.

Daviyon Nixon, 3-star JUCO DT, Iowa Western — committed to Iowa
Nixon was offered by Alabama earlier this week. He’s planning on taking an official visit to Alabama after his season ends.

Jalen Cunningham, 3-star DT, St. Clair County High School (Odenville, Ala.)
Cunningham wants to commit to Alabama, but he’s still waiting for a committable offer. It’s possible that the Tide have struck out on Miller and Brown, so he might eventually get one.

Jeffery Johnson, 3-star DT, Brookhaven (Miss.) High School
Johnson told me recently that his top 3 consists of Alabama, Florida State and Ole Miss. His likely landing spot is Ole Miss, but, like Cunningham, that will likely change if the Alabama staff extends a committable offer.

Per Tim Watts, the kid and his coach reached out to the Bama staff this week. He does not have a firm offer and has to first get out of the NLI that he signed with Iowa.
Tim seems to think the whole tampering accusation is a non-issue as they reached out to Bama, not the other way around, and he doesn't have one of the legit written offers...

The whole Iowa signee currently attending and playing JUCO ball is super strange. Then the fact that the Alabama coach referenced by the kid is Karl Dunbar just takes it to another level, given the Bama fanbase's current opinion of Dunbar's recruiting prowess.
Here is another article that reports that Dunbar reached out to the kid initially, not the other way around.
After Alabama offer, Iowa recruit Daviyon Nixon's heart, head in two different places

quote:
Here's how it all went down: Crimson Tide defensive line coach Karl Dunbar followed Nixon on Twitter on Tuesday, so he followed Dunbar back and immediately called his dad. While speaking with his dad, Nixon received a direct message from Dunbar asking if he was free for a phone call.
Nixon called Dunbar later and received his full-ride scholarship offer. A 6-foot-4, 305-pound defensive lineman, Nixon had never heard from Alabama before Tuesday. Not a peep. Then, all of a sudden, the country's perennial football powerhouse wanted him.

The way I understand it, Dunbar can contact via social media. He just couldn’t call him. He asked Nixon to call him. Which he did.

Notice almost everyone they assign to Daboll is someone of little relevance...

Actually, it's not. You can say it is, but that doesn't make it so.
I'll say again what I said a while back- Losing Bo Davis was backbreaking. This won't get better.

Like I said... some people are in denial

Baxkbreaking? We just signed two 5 star DL and greyshirted another top 100 guy that Davis didn't recruit.
I mean.. is this real life? The hyperbole is absolutely staggering.

It may not be backbreaking, but its clear that recruiting is not a forte of Daboll or Dunbar and it is hurting us during this cycle.
It's been mentioned quite a bit, but we lost some elite recruiters over the years. Cristobol to Key was an upgrade on the field but a major downgrade out on the trail. Losing Napier and Kirby also hurt, in addition to the situation with Bo Davis.
Add in the fact that Locksley tragically lost his son earlier this season, so its totally understandable but we are struggling from a Saban at Bama standpoint. It's not the end of the world, but it's not a red herring either...

People pretending Dunbar is a good recruiter are fooling themselves. He's a career NFL guy, and those guys don't have to recruit. He's proven nothing as a recruiter here in 10 months. We've lost every DL recruiting battle since he arrived minus Wynn. We've been blessed with Davis and Rumph as they were both elite recruiters. Maybe Dunbar can learn under Saban and by watching guys like Tosh, but at his age I wouldn't count on it. Maybe Orgeron will get fired at LSU and we can hire him as our DL coach. Dunbar isn't the only recruiting concern, many have already mentioned Dabol's lack of experience and the fact Saban doesn't assign him any important recruits. As long as he keeps calling plays and developing our QB's the way he is, I can live with him learning to recruit on the job. But even he's not the extent of the concern. What has Derrick Ansley done since he arrived in terms of recruiting? We're literally losing our entire secondary next year and we have 1 DB committed heading into November. Even Pruitt has been disappointing after having an ace in Kirby as a DC. The bottom line is I'm just not sure our current staff is an elite recruiting staff. If that is confirmed in February with a class outside the top 5, Saban will need to rectify quickly. Hopefully they pull it together and prove me wrong, I'd be thrilled to eat a crow sandwich on this come February.

I seem to remember getting laughed at once or twice (not by quality posters over here of course) when I indicated on the overall crootin' board that it seemed like there was a little more struggle in Tuscaloosa than usual a few weeks ago. I fully anticipate that Bama will have no problems filling out its class with solid players, but it definitely seems like there may be some "Alabama fatigue" even among recruits right now... fear of depth chart or whatever... your comments above make a lot of sense too regarding staff turnover and Locksley's family situation.
Just hoping that if you get into #flipmode that it's stealing players from other teams... would like to keep our croots, kthanks.

Well, the fact that a lot of you rival fans were jabbering about this in like May and June WAS idiotic. It was way too early in the cycle to know anything. But now heading into November with no improvement and no big-time commitments since forever ago it seems--there is reason to start questioning the recruiting prowess of this particular staff. Now granted, Saban and the boys have 3 plus months to get this thing put together--which is plenty of time--but we'll just have to see how it shakes out. One thing I know about Saban, he's not shy about firing guys. If this staff can't get it done on the trail, we will have guys who can on our staff for the next cycle.

Daboll?? He's gotten lots of praise for his recruiting ability in a very limited time so far. Kiffin did basically no recruiting. He's a clear recruiting upgrade there.
Criticizing Dunbar is fair game. But Daboll hasn't shown any areas for concern at all.
