Big Kat was the same way. Silently committed to UGA then basically committed to LSU two weeks before NSD. Visited for AU, we let him go hunting and eat wings. Mom told him doesn't want him going all the way out to Baton Rouge so picked AU because of that last official visit

These Crisp County boys are wired a bit different

So through four games Taulia Tagovailoa has completed 91 of 116 passes (that's 78.4% ) for 1,338 yards and 10 TDs. He's on pace to throw for over 3300 yards and around 25 touchdown passes.

Paul Tyson has done pretty good as well. 58 of 78 for 996 yards and 9 touchdowns. It feels insane to have such QB depth in the state next year along with Nix.

That was crazy. He really wanted to go to LSU lol. Hearing Quay and Peterson are all Bama right now, but Auburn always seems to close strong.

There is always one or two in every class that we have to worry about. Quay seems to be that guy and dont know what Peterson is waiting on.

Not 2018 recruiting, but this paragraph below got me to thinking about how well we've recruited. And while it's still too early to say for sure on a lot of guys (like Ben Davis in the '16 class and some linemen that need time to develop), we sure don't seem to have many "misses" in our last couple classes. Excellent talent evaluations, even on the few 3* guys we've signed.

We only lose 2 LB's this year. Lotta talent coming back. Hopefully Davis can find his footing and crack the depth chart next season.

Has he seen any snaps at all this year either on Special Teams or on defense?

Elite California cornerback Isaac Taylor-Stuart remains high on LSU's board, and they apparently sit fairly high on his.

Taylor-Stuart released his latest list of top programs, consisting of 12 in total, and LSU expectantly remains one of those programs. The Tigers routinely land premier prospects at both the safety and cornerback position, but they have not landed a commitment from the West Coast region in quite some time.

The 6-feet-2, 190-pound speedster listed LSU, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, Oregon, USC, Texas A&M, Washington and Michigan as his top choices on Monday.

USC has long been considered the favorite to land Taylor-Stuart, with Ohio State, Michigan and Alabama being considered by many as other realistic options. LSU is perceived to be a major underdog in his recruitment by analyst, and that has been echoed by sources involved in the process. The Tigers need to get an official visit scheduled if they want to have a legit chance, and that appears to be unlikely at this stage of the process. But they are in his top 12.

More Emory Jones talk

There’s going to be a lot of talk over the next several months on whether Emory Jones will flip from Ohio State or if he’ll stick with the Buckeyes.

The 4-star quarterback from Heard County High School (Franklin, Ga.), is saying the right things when it comes to his commitment to Ohio State, but Jones is going to continue to get questions on if he truly is 100 percent with the Buckeyes because he wants to take visits to other programs.

Quarterbacks, who are committed to a program, usually don’t take visits to other schools because they’re viewed as the leader of their school’s recruiting class. Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones, Alabama’s Class of 2017 quarterbacks, didn’t visit any other program once when they committed to the Crimson Tide. Jones wants to take all five of his official visits. Alabama will be one of the schools to get a visit, and it will be at least the third time he’s been to Tuscaloosa as a recruit.

Heard County coach Tim Barron doesn’t think his quarterback will flip his commitment from Ohio State, though.

“I know Emory is not the type of kid that is running around and shopping around,” Barron told SEC Country. “He’s not a kid that’s going to be flipping hats on [National Signing Day]. He’s just not that guy. Right now, from my impressions, he’s Ohio State’s. I also know that there are other people that want him, though.”

The nation’s No. 3 dual-threat quarterback told SEC Country that outside of Ohio State, Alabama is mainly the only school he’s communicating with on a regular basis. Auburn, Florida State and Georgia remain in touch with Jones, too, but those three schools are considered to be serious contenders for 5-star quarterback Justin Fields. Jones said those three programs don’t talk much with him. The reason is probably because they’re focused on Fields.

Alabama’s most-likely additions at the quarterback position in the 2018 class are Jones and 4-star prospect Tanner McKee. Outside of those two, there’s not an elite quarterback who’s considering the Crimson Tide at this time. It’s interesting to note that Jones, despite being committed to Ohio State, has kept a close watch on the Tide’s offense this season.

“I have seen some progress in their passing game,” Jones told SEC Country last week. “Jalen Hurts has definitely progressed as a passer. Last time I went there [this summer], I worked out with him and threw with him. I could tell that he progressed. He knows the offense and is more comfortable in the offense this year. That’s definitely good.”

The only problem with the possibility of Alabama flipping Jones is his mother seems to be 100 percent sold on her son attending Ohio State. There has been some chatter around Jones’ recruitment that some people in his family want him to choose a school closer to where he lives in Franklin, Ga., but Jones’ mother, Trina, is not one of those people.

What struck me is that she has actively reached out to parents of former and current Buckeyes players to get a sense of how their sons developed on and off the field. That shows me she is completely invested in getting every piece of info she can get before she sends him off to Columbus in January, as Jones is an early enrollee. She has not done that type of information-mining at Alabama.

That’s important because her opinion matters. Jones calls his mother his best friend.

“My mom is definitely my best friend,” Jones said. “I talk to her throughout the day. After my games, she’s always the one that picks me up. Sometimes, she’ll coach me on things that I need to work on. She always gives me tips. My relationship with her is very close. When I’m at home with her, we just sit down and talk about life and the future.

“I think about [providing for her] almost every night before I go to sleep. I see how hard she works every single day to provide for me. She leaves the house early in the morning and comes back at 8 o’clock to provide for me, so I can do the things I want to do. I feel like when I get the opportunity to bless her, she’s going to get everything she’s ever wanted.”

As of now, I don’t think Jones will flip to Alabama; however, I do think he is the Crimson Tide’s likeliest addition at quarterback in the 2018 class. I think there’s a long way to go, but Alabama will get a big chance to make a move when he makes his official visit in the coming weeks.

What kind of player would Alabama be getting if it flipped Jones?

“The ball comes out of his hand a little differently,” Tim Barron, Jones’ coach, said. “I’m not a quarterbacks coach, so I can’t tell you specifically why. I don’t mess with our quarterbacks coach. I’m smart enough to get out of his way. But when you watch him throw, it’s different. It’s spinning when it comes out of his hand. If he needed to be a pocket passer, he could be. If he needed to make something happen with his legs, he could do that as well.

Josh Jobe still strongly considering Alabama

Josh Jobe started a new chapter in his high school football career earlier this month.

Jobe, a 4-star cornerback from Cheshire Academy, is now in Connecticut after transferring to the boarding school from Miami. Jobe couldn’t play his senior year in Miami because he turned 19 before Sept. 1, which rules him ineligible in Florida.

The Miami commit has only been in the Northeast for a few weeks and has enjoyed his time so far, but he is missing those he’s closest to.

“I mean, it feels good to be away and explore a new environment,” Jobe told SEC Country. “I miss my family, but my family already knows that I have to take care of business up here in Connecticut. I think about my family a lot. That’s all I have in this world.”

What does that mean for the Miami native who has been committed to the Hurricanes since June 2015? Well, not much. Jobe said that him being away from home and missing his family doesn’t necessarily reinforce his commitment to Miami.

“Honestly, wherever I go, my family is still going to be right by my side,” Jobe said.

The U.S. Army All-American admitted that he did feel a lot of pressure from people in his community to remain at home and play for the Hurricanes because he’s from the area. But, Jobe said that he “doesn’t pay them any attention.”

When SEC Country spoke to Jobe during the summer, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect was only considering Alabama and Michigan outside of Miami. That’s still the case. He will take an official visit to Tuscaloosa this fall, but he doesn’t have his trip set just yet. His preference is to visit for the LSU game in November.

What’s interesting about Jobe and where he stands with Miami is that he’s still telling the Hurricanes coaches that he’s all in, but when asked if he would say he’s strongly committed to the team, Jobe couldn’t give a response.

“I don’t have an answer,” Jobe said. “I am still committed.”

Alabama has remained in touch with Jobe nearly every day. He has been one of the team’s top defensive back targets for several months now along with Jalyn Armour-Davis, who’s committed to the Tide, Tyson Campbell, Patrick Surtain Jr., Saivion Smith, Nadab Joseph and Kyler McMichael.

Right now, my projections of who Alabama is going to sign in the secondary include Armour-Davis, Campbell, Smith and Joseph. I’m just not that confident right now that Jobe flips, but the Crimson Tide are right there with the Hurricanes.

“They have a really good chance,” Jobe said of Alabama’s chances with him. “It’s all on me now.”

Jobe met with the Tide coaches twice this summer. He visited Tuscaloosa once and traveled to Florida International for a satellite camp where Alabama coaches were. That allowed him to get lots of face time with the staff.

The message to Jobe hasn’t changed since the team started recruiting him. Depth in the secondary next season is going to be significantly thin with Levi Wallace, Anthony Averett and Tony Brown exhausting eligibility and Ronnie Harrison and Minkah Fitzpatrick likely candidates to leave for the NFL draft.

“Next year, it’s all about me,” Jobe said when discussing possible early playing time at Alabama. “I can play as a true freshman. The staff is telling me, ‘Be ready to play, Jobe.'”

The nation’s No. 12 cornerback said he’s been keeping up with Alabama’s games on TV. Jobe said he likes the team’s physicality on defense and he believes ”Bama is like the NFL.”

“Alabama is Alabama, at the end of the day,” Jobe said.

When Jobe visits Tuscaloosa later this fall, there will be lots of attention on him from the coaching staff. That visit will tell us more on where the Crimson Tide stand with him. Alabama certainly wants Jobe in this class and will continue chipping away at his commitment to Miami. It’s not going to be a guarantee that he flips from the Hurricanes because he does have a very tight bond with the Miami staff, but he is listening to Alabama with open ears. That’s all you can ask for at this time.

Important visitor coming to town this weekend

Coynis Miller, a 4-star defensive tackle from Jackson-Olin High School (Birmingham, Ala.), told SEC Country that he’ll visit Tuscaloosa this weekend for Alabama’s game against Ole Miss.

Alabama still trails Florida, which is his leader, and Auburn. I still believe his recruitment will come down to Alabama and Auburn when he makes his commitment. The longer he holds off on making a decision, the better it is for the Tide.

This will be Miller’s second trip to Alabama this fall.

It was another winning week for Auburn football commits and targets.

Despite only playing a half, running back commit Asa Martin continued his consistent domination of opposing defenses so far this season. Shaun Shivers shined on a big stage with a 100-yard performance against a top-ranked team in a nationally-televised game. Josh Marsh loaded the stat sheet.

Check all of the best performances.

Anyone want to make heads explode on the Rant this morning?

Twitter Tuesday: Saquon Barkley, top RBs, Butch Jones, Oklahoma

Best CFB running back you've seen since the year 2000? AP? Bush? Zeke? Barkley?
— ???Man?? (@Bryan_WENB) September 25, 2017

This is a nice follow up question. I’ll give you my top 10 college running backs since the year 2000 and a few might surprise you.

1. Reggie Bush – Quite simply, Bush was amazing to watch.

2. Adrian Peterson – Pure domination from the running back spot with everyone keying on him and unable to stop him.

3. Saquon Barkley – His improvement in the passing game this year puts him very high on this list.

4. Derrick Henry – He waited his turn at Alabama and then put together one of the best seasons I’ve ever seen. For a huge running back who was the entire key to the offense, he still couldn’t be contained.

5. Darren McFadden – Because Arkansas didn’t win as much as the others, he gets overlooked, but he was amazing and dynamic.

6. Ezekiel Elliott – I still don’t understand why he didn’t get carries in the loss to Michigan State as he led one of the most talented teams I’ve ever seen. He was outstanding.

7. Christian McCaffrey – Breaking Barry Sanders' record for all-purpose yards puts you seventh on this list? Yep, that’s how good the others are.

8. LaDainian Tomlinson – See McFadden when talking about a guy who never got enough national love because of the team he played for.

9. Dalvin Cook – I think he’s the only one on this list who never went to New York for the Heisman presentation (Barkley will) and that’s insane.

10. CJ Spiller – Think of all the touches he missed because of horrible play calling. Others put up better stats over their careers and had better individual seasons that aren’t on this list, but Spiller’s talent was undeniable.

Henry over McFadden AND Fournette?
