Alabama hit the jackpot at arguably one of the biggest needs in the class when it flipped DeLong from Tennessee back in June. The nation's No. 1 punter will have big shoes to fill in 2018 when he replaces JK Scott.

I just want to point out that last year on August 13th the Recruiting MEGATHREAD was at 312 pages.
We're on page 463.
Last year's thread topped out at 864 pages. If we maintain last year's pace we'll be over 1,000 pages by NSD.

Damn, I thought we were behind.

Big kid. I think he would be H back or TE based on film. Every pass he threw on film I saw was a wounded duck. However has was running around about every pass too.

Me too.
We're actually doing better than 2016 as well. We were at page 347 on August 13th. That one ended at 869 pages.
2015 was a different animal though. We were at 521 pages on August 13th, but only ended up with 867 pages. Talk about shooting your load early.
2014 was at 320 pages but ended up with 1,005.

School starts soon. Usually there is another lull in commits until the big recruiting weekends. Do you think we get anyone else in next 2 weeks?

Was that the Rashaan Evans year? I think he caused at least 50 of those pages

Yeah.
Asa Martin announces on the 24th and Vernon Jackson two days later.
We supposedly lead for both of them.

Yeah.
I think we put up 300 pages in the 2 weeks before NSD.

As long as Jackson doesn't turn out like Jeremy Liggins. He could never find a position, despite being athletically gifted.
He went from high school QB to QB/DE at JuCo, QB to FB to TE to OT to TE to OT at Ole Miss, and went from OT to DT for the Seahawks.
Playing right now actually...

This is from 6 days ago, but I felt it was relevant. And, yes, that really is the title of the article:
Alabama, SEC, don’t take this (butt) whipping personally

Alabama, SEC, don’t take this (butt) whipping personally
quote:
September 2 is a day every Florida State fan has been looking forward to since the announcement that the Seminoles would open the 2017 season against Alabama.
To be honest, we feel cheated. This game should’ve happened in 2014. No ‘Nole really wanted to face Auburn. We wanted Alabama, and that’s who we thought we were going to get in the BCS championship game following the 2013 season.
We wanted to own the SEC.
Let’s get serious: When SEC homers brag about having the best conference in football, they aren’t talking about their team. They are talking about Alabama, the best team in college football for most of the past decade, the team that everyone has crowned – again – as the likely champs and bestowed upon an aura of invincibility.
Unlike any other program, Alabama’s reputation (hype?) precedes itself year-in and year-out.
While I recognize the Tide’s success and believe Nick Saban to be one of the best coaches ever, I believe Florida State is ready to take the crown – and with the king’s head attached.
The Crimson Tide has been dominant for the past decade, but today is a new day. Florida State is primed to replace Alabama at the head of college football’s table, and the 2017 Seminoles may be more talented top to bottom than the 2013 national champs were.
Florida State replacing Alabama on the throne has been a long time coming.
Since Jimbo Fisher assumed the helm at Florida State in 2010, he has lost once to an SEC school, to Florida in 2012. But the Gators, the SEC (L)East champion the past two seasons, haven’t scored an offensive touchdown in their past 10 quarters against the Seminoles. During his tenure, Fisher also has beaten South Carolina, which was more talented at the time, and an Auburn team that Florida State fans wished had been Alabama.
I’ve been waiting for Florida State to play Alabama since they last met in 2007, during Saban’s first season with the Tide. Both teams are in a much better place now than they were when they met in Jacksonville a decade ago – a game Florida State won, by the way.
Alabama has gone on a tear since, winning four national titles. Florida State parted ways with Bobby Bowden and became the only school to successfully use the “coach-in-waiting” model with Fisher, who has won 88 games and a national title.
The talent that has been produced by these programs in the past decade could field a Super Bowl-caliber NFL team. Both have been in the running for almost every major recruit for the past several years. I expect a blockbuster match-up September 2 – one I believe FSU will win.

LSU routinely lures top defensive back prospects to its program, but even they experience the occasional tough break on the recruiting trail.
Nadab Joseph's decommitment is a great example of that, as the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder announced that he was rescinding his verbal commitment to LSU, and will re-open his recruitment on Thursday. The four-star prospect committed to LSU late last summer, but a string of summer visits led to Joseph wanting to explore his options.
LSU will do the same, with many of the same names being the primary targets. Joseph was considered to be a versatile defensive back, with LSU projecting him as a likely cornerback in the class.
Florida cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. wrapped up a late summer visit to LSU last month, putting the Tigers in the driver seat to land his commitment down the road. With Joseph no longer in the class, Baton Rouge should appeal even more to the five-star prospect. LSU was hoping for a summer commitment, but it became evident awhile ago that Surtain Jr. may wait things out, with a commitment following his senior season likely.
One prospect who is starting to look like a real possibility is Texas standout Anthony Cook, who appears to have LSU and Ohio State as his top two at the moment. Texas is said to be out of the picture, but I think the Longhorns could resurface as a legit contender for his services. Cook is expected to take an official visit to LSU this fall.
Keep an eye out for Surtain Jr.'s teammates Tyson Campbell, who is still engaging LSU a bit. Few sources believe that Campbell would sign with the same school as Surtain Jr., but there is still a line of communication between the two sides. LSU defensive backs coach Corey Raymond is expected to visit American Heritage High School this season, and it will be interesting to see what comes from it. As of right now, I expect Campbell to take an official visit to LSU in the coming months.
Jacksonville, Florida's Tyreke Johnson's name has resurfaced as of late, but the two sides have yet to get in sync with one another. While there may be enough to monitor, there certainly isn't enough to think the Tigers are much of a threat yet.
Texas commit Jalen Green recently committed to the Longhorns, but LSU was high on his list and there is good reason to believe this battle may not be over yet. The new opening at LSU caught Green's attention, but flipping him won't be easy. One source stated that Green is very comfortable in his decision to attend Texas at the moment, but did note that the Tigers will always have a shot with him.
California cornerback Isaac Taylor-Stuart has been talking up LSU a bit as of late, but the confidence level of anything substantial transpiring is extremely low in Baton Rouge right now. But Taylor-Stuart is one of the top prospects in the country, and appears to be gearing up for an official visit this fall.
McDonogh 35 safety Joe Foucha has positioned himself to get a push from the in-state program. Foucha earned his offer from LSU in June, and area recruiter Mickey Joseph continues to work on him a bit. The Tigers initially offered knowing he was too good not to engage, but he is moving up the board a bit as things start to play out.
In-state prospects Dorian Camel, Eddie Smith and Israel Mukuamu will continue to be evaluated, and it would not be surprising to see one of them end up in this class. Mukuamu and Smith are currently firm in their commitments to Florida and TCU, respectively, but a call from LSU could change things.
The Tigers currently hold two defensive back commitments in Scotlandville's Kelvin Joseph and Evangel's Ar'Darius Washington. Joseph appears to be fairly solid in his commitment while Washington appears to be looking around--most notably at TCU. The Tigers are aiming for four commitments in the 2018 class, with one source stating that he would prefer three signees instead of five, if they couldn't settle on the four.

Hoover quarterback Peyton Wilson surprised everyone with his decision to give up football, especially after competing all summer to become the Bucs’ next starting quarterback.
Wilson, an Alabama baseball commit and younger brother of former Hoover star quarterbacks John Parker and Ross Wilson, said in a text message to AL.com that he decided to concentrate on baseball. Wilson played second base and hit in the middle of the lineup as the Bucs won the 2016 Class 7A baseball championship.
“It is a tremendous challenge to be a multi-sport player at a program like Hoover High,” Wilson said in the text message. “There are prestigious events that have opened up this fall, baseball related, that I felt like I needed to be involved in to work on my development as a baseball player. My goals are to win another state baseball championship for coach (Adam) Moseley and to be in a position to compete at the University of Alabama in a couple of years.
“A lot of prayer and discussions with my family played a big part in helping reach this difficult decision,” he added. “Of course, I wish only the best for the football team for the season.”
Elite baseball prospects are often invited to fall events. Last fall, for instance, UMS-Wright quarterback Tanner Allen, who signed to play college baseball at Mississippi State and then helped UMS-Wright win the 2017 Class 4A state baseball title, wavered over playing football because he made the 40-man roster for the 2016 18U USA National Team Trials.
If Wilson – like Allen – wants to compete in fall baseball events, it clearly creates a scheduling conflict with football. Hoover has advanced to the football playoff semifinals or championship game in eight of the last nine seasons and 15 of the last 17.
Wilson, a junior, juggled baseball and football this summer while battling senior Jalen Parker for the starting quarterback job at Hoover, the reigning 7A football champ. He excelled as a junior varsity quarterback and flashed plenty of potential all summer during 7-on-7 competitions.
Hoover coach Josh Niblett confirmed Monday – the first official day of AHSAA football practice – that Wilson had opted not to play football this fall, but he declined to elaborate.
Without Wilson, senior Seth Compher and sophomore Robby Ashford are part of the quarterback race.
At the Jefferson/Shelby High School Media Days in Gardendale earlier this month, Niblett said no decision had been made on a starting quarterback. “We’ll play the best one,” Niblett said.
Hoover opens the season Aug. 25, at Grayson (Ga.)., and the home opener is Sept. 1, against Meridian (Miss.).

Hewitt-Trussville will still open the season against an out-of-state team, but it’s not the one that’s been on the schedule for months.
The Huskies will now open the season against Callaway (Miss.) on Sept. 1, after Holy Trinity (Fla.) “pulled out” of the original season-opening matchup late last month, said Hewitt-Trussville coach Josh Floyd.
“We’ve been scrambling to get a game,” Floyd said, “and we finally got it. We were worried about not getting anything.”
The Huskies also play in AHSAA’s season-opening Champions Challenge on Aug. 25 against Pell City, but that game will not count in the teams’ official records.
Callaway’s roster features receiver Malik Heath, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound Mississippi State commit who is the No. 2 prospect in Mississippi according to 247sports, and 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive end James Williams, Mississippi’s No. 6 prospect who has an Alabama offer.
Hewitt-Trussville’s roster also includes a number of prospects, including junior offensive lineman Pierce Quick, who has already committed to Alabama; sophomore receiver Dazalin Worsham, who 247sports has tabbed as the state’s top prospect for the Class of 2020; running back and Army commit Elliott McElwain; and junior quarterback Paul Tyson.
“We have a pretty young team, so the more games we can play, the better,” Floyd said.
Hewitt-Trussville opens the season at No. 4 in Class 7A in the preseason ASWA prep poll released this week, and the Huskies are coming off a 2016 season that included a 10-0 record in the regular season for the first time in school history while scoring a school-record 552 points.

Reigning Class 7A champ Hoover opens the 2017 season ranked in the top 10 nationally by two national outlets – No. 8 by High School Football America and No. 9 by USA Today.
MaxPreps, a national website devoted to high school sports, also puts together a composite Top 25 from five major national polls, and Hoover opens tied for 20th in the composite rankings.
Two of Hoover’s opponents – Grayson (Fla.) and IMG Academy (Fla.) – are also included in multiple national rankings. In fact, Grayson opens at No. 7 in USA Today, which makes Hoover’s season opener at Grayson a top-10 national matchup according to USA Toady.
Two other Alabama teams also appear in the preseason High School Football America Top 100 – Central-Phenix City at No. 71 and Hewitt-Trussville at No. 91.
