I saw a few of his high lights and he has no problem catching and a few were in traffic where he had to jump for the ball.

Interesting. One of the guys that I like to listen to says that we haven't really turned up the heat on him yet, but that we do like him a good bit.
If you've seen our recent OL classes, that's probably been the single position that we've recruited the best in the past couple cycles. And with two 5*s already committed, we're being incredibly picky. To be honest, I'm not really sure where the pecking order stands at OL right now. We all assume that Davis is high on the pecking order since he's a 5*, but we've seen that Saban's board is frequently very different from the recruiting gurus (i.e. letting 4* Tyrell Shavers commit, but higher ranked 4/5* Jeff Thomas not being allowed to commit).
Yea, I'm not sure where he is on an overall "big board" for OSU either, since they only have 7 or so spots left and had certain guys basically earmarked for those. I think the plan was to just take the 2 OL OSU has, with Myers a 5* and Moretti a top 4* and be done at OL, but maybe he's a guy you don't say no to?

Really? This is ranked?

That's a big commitment. It worked out the last time with Mazza.

If you have a few bad snaps per year, it could cost you a shot at a national championship. It's an overlooked position. A snapper never wants his name to be called on a tv broadcast

He's also a US Army All American.

OK, who just lost a spot to a long snapper? Just need to sign a punter this year and we will have the specialists covered.

That's another LB, WR, or DL that will have to be left out of the class. Ugh.
But I'm glad that he's at least the best at the position he plays.

I think we will sign as many as we need and worry about numbers later. Especially, if we are going to process some linebackers at some point.

Our class right now has:
#1 Kicker
#1 Long Snapper
#1 JUCO OT/#1 overall JUCO player
#1 JUCO LB
#1 RB
#1 Kicker
#1 Long Snapper
#1 JUCO OT/#1 overall JUCO player
#1 JUCO LB
#1 RB

Unfortunately, you can't do that in the SEC anymore. Isn't 28 the limit, with only being able to have 25 enroll on scholarship in August? The days of Ole Miss signing 37 and us signing 30 or so are over.
It's just no longer as simple as "sign as many as you need and sort it out later". Even if we sign 28, we'll be in a crunch with the WRs we can sign this time and the needs at LB and DL (ESPECIALLY DL).
If we don't sign several REALLY good DL this time, we'll be hurting for numbers in the next couple years, and have to hope that we have literally ZERO evaluation misses. We all think Raekwon Davis and Quinnen Williams will be really good, but that's just two guys, and we lose a ton on the DL after this year.

Hey if you wait your spot gets taken it is what it is, Im sure they know that also so hey their loss. We needed a long snapper anyways because I think Mazza is a senior this year.

Is anyone concerned about JK Scott potentially leaving early?
Posted on 6/23/16 at 2:05 pm to chattabama
Honestly no, but didnt the kicker we got for this class also punted for his team as well?

Tennessee always uses a loophole to sign as many as they need, so the hell with the 28 limit. I'd rather sign a player that will start from day 1 at long snapper than a 3 or 4 star "project"
Posted on 6/23/16 at 2:45 pm to Cobrasize
I hear ya. Yeah, I suppose maybe there are some loopholes. As long as we're not frustrated that we can't sign some top notch talent when we already have 27 committed, I'm on board with it. We've had a couple of top 10-level (since we now know that such rankings for long snappers actually exist) walk-on long snappers that I was hoping could be good enough to not have to give a scholarship to, including a poster on TI's son. Drats.
