I'm not saying they don't know each other and that an acquaintance type relationship doesn't exits, but AJ is a 25 year old man who spend 5 years in college and has been in NFL for 2 years. West is a HS junior (to be). The age difference is like 8-9 years. How have they been "friends" for years?

This is from an interview West did last month:

quote:

Recruiting started for you at such a young age. Did it ever seem absurd?

"I have a really good support system around me. They really helped me through it. I'm talking about guys like A.J. (McCarron) and Jake (Coker) who have been through it and done it. I think maybe it was an advantage for me to get started early so I could get used to it as I went along. Having them there to ask questions certainly was big for me.

They are all from the Mobile area.

I get all the connections and I'm very glad they exist. I guess I'm just getting hung up on the word "friends". I've always thought of it more as a mentor type role.

When AJ was a SR at Bama and was 23 years old, I doubt he wanted to hang out with 14 year old Jack West when he went home to Mobile. Mentor? Sure.

Maybe he realized West was a better QB than him and he wanted to learn a few things?

When I said yrs, I was meaning 3 to 5. They are both from Mobile, and I think their parents know each other. All I know gor a fact is they met yrs ago somehow, and formed a friendship. There has been several pics of the both of them hanging out that was on twitter. There was also an article about AJ saying that they have a good friendship. Sorry about the mix up in yrs, I should have been more specific.

AJ was the last QB Bama signed out of high school from the state of Alabama. Had he signed with the Tide, Jameis Winston would have been the starter for the Tide the last two years and would have been the number 1 pick in this year's draft.

It partly depends on where they decide they want to play Townsend. On the other hand, there will likely be some safety attrition before too long, so they may sign 2 or 3.

Yeah, towsend will be either cb or safety. Even if he plays safety, I think they will still take Gray.

Good list. But definitely add 1-2 more DL. Original number I'd seen mentioned was 6. Not sure what they're thinking now. Front 7 recruiting is critical this time. We've had a few misses (at least our DC thinks so) at DT and ILB in recent classes. Also, you should add Beal to the LB list. At this moment, it sounds like it would be a pretty big upset if he didn't sign with us. Package deal with his sister (track).

So maybe 6 DL
3 or 4 RB
5wr
We need to just say "frick it" and sign 35. What are they going to do about it. Hell, Tennessee has had some large classes and said they found a loophole.

I thought about beal, but for some reason I don't have a good feeling with him. I hadn't heard about the sister deal. yhat sounds very good! So yeah, add beal to lb class. Also,I agree about dl,it hurt missing on most of our top dl prospects. As of right now I just don't know of who else will sign with us, that's the reason I only listed that many. Outside of the guys I have listed , there's no one that's really sticking out that's saying Bama is leading or up there high on there list. There's always guys later on in the season that will rise in the rankings that we will jump in on.I hope we atleast sign 6. Justin Thomas is a guy that I think will rise once his senior film comes out,and if he is a take he will sign with us. Also the de that decommited from Kentucky is also an option.

Trying to make the numbers work out in a Saban recruiting class is just about the biggest exercise in futility that you can do (even though I still try). It always looks like we're going to sign a Houston Nutt-sized class every year through about January or so. Oh well. You can't argue with the results.

Not sure we can land him ahead of L5U (it'll be a very tough battle for both teams), but Buggs from Juco is the #1 DE on the board right now. I think we could sign more Jucos in this class than we have in a long time. Literally 5 isn't out of the question.
