Marcus Tatum’s recruitment figures to get much more complicated very soon.
The 3-star offensive tackle prospect from Mainland High School (Daytona Beach, Fla.) looked destined to end up at Florida, Miami or Tennessee. After all, he has official visits scheduled to Florida and Miami in January after already taking one to Tennessee in November. It was 3-horse race, right? Not with Alabama suddenly emerging.
The Crimson Tide has continued to hang around. Now, Tatum is considering an official visit to Tuscaloosa, Ala., thanks in part to fond memories with Alabama’s coaching staff.
Tatum still remembers taking part in a summer camp at Alabama. Coach Nick Saban, offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and offensive line coach Mario Cristobal made an impression.
“Just the way they develop their players,” Tatum said about what’s appealing about Alabama.
Tatum recalls being allowed to participate in a seven-on-seven passing camp, which is unheard of for an offensive lineman. Yet ‘Bama’s coaches allowed him to compete as a tight end.
“They were all just saying they want what would be best for me and it would all be based off on how my body developed so it was nice to see them recognize I could do both,” Tatum said.
Tatum did well. However, he has grown into an athletic offensive tackle prospect, albeit a lean one. The 6-foot-6 ½ Tatum said he’s consistently weighing between 255 and 260 pounds, but plans to be close to 280 pounds by graduation.
Tatum is far from a finished prospect at that weight. However, it’s his raw ability that have coaches interested. Tennessee is certainly intrigued. The Vols invited Tatum for an official visit in November, and he visited Tennessee’s bowl practice on Monday. There is clearly mutual interest.
“Very up tempo,” Tatum said of Tennessee’s practice. “Got a lot done in a quick amount of time. Very competitive.”
Tatum will take an official visit to Miami on Jan. 22. However, before that he’ll take an official visit to Florida on Jan. 15. Many think Tatum is destined to end up a Gator. Much of the Florida coaching staff is trying to make sure Tatum doesn’t slip through their fingers.
“They have turned it up even more,” he said. “I talk to a good amount of coaches. It’s not even just offensive caches I have been talking to, many defensive coaches too. I talk to coach Mac (Jim McElwain) quite a bit as well.”
Admittedly, Tatum has recently taken a relaxed approach to recruiting. Now, it’s time for the frantic race to National Signing Day to begin.

North Carolina commit Korey Banks picked up two SEC offers this week, from Alabama and South Carolina, and now he’ll visit both schools in January.
Banks, a 3-star wide receiver from Sandy Creek High School (Tyrone, Ga.), told SEC Country that he has scheduled an official visit to Alabama on Jan. 22 and South Carolina on Jan. 29. He will officially visit UNC on Jan. 15.
The 6-foot, 170-pounder said he had a chance to speak with Alabama wide receivers coach Billy Napier on Sunday, and he had good things to say about the conversation.
“He was saying he wants me at Alabama,” Banks said. “He loves my tape.”
When asked if Alabama is a place he could see himself playing at Banks responded, “I mean, we’ll see on Feb. 3!” For those that don’t know, Feb. 3 is National Signing Day.
Banks is rated as the nation’s No. 119 wide receiver and No. 76 prospect in the state of Georgia.

Alabama offensive line commit Netori Johnson said “that man is strong.” That was after he was beat on back-to-back reps in 1-on-1 drills at the Rising Seniors all-star practice, which is an event that features some of the state of Georgia’s top juniors.
The Rising Seniors defensive line coach kept on screaming “that’s a grown arse man” and “that man is a bear in the woods.”
That “grown arse man” was four-star defensive tackle Tyrone Truesdell, who happens to have zero scholarship offers. That will change after this week’s performance against some of the top prospects in Georgia.
Truesdell, from Laney High School (Augusta, Ga.), told SEC Country that his dream schools right now are Oregon and Georgia.
On Georgia: “It’s right here in my home state. I know everything about their school, pretty much. I know which classes I could take, the teachers, the dorms and I know some of the students already there.”
On Oregon: “Their defensive coach is from the same area that I’m from. I know if I went there, they have what I want to major in. Also, the dude who runs Nike is pretty much a sponsor for the school. If the worst case scenario is football doesn’t work out, I can use my business degree and maybe work for Nike. I have always been an entrepreneur and been good with math.”
The 6-foot-2, 299-pounder said those two schools have been showing “major interest” along with Auburn and Alabama, but as of now, no one has pulled the trigger on offering him. Truesdell said those four schools have invited him to “pretty much” every home game this past season.
The under-the-radar prospect plans on making a trip to the west coast to visit Oregon in the spring. That’s the only visit he knows of right now.
For now, Truesdell is going to keep on doing what he’s been doing — grinding.
“I’ve been doing six-a-day workouts just to make sure that I stay in shape this offseason and get ready to showcase myself more this spring,” Truesdell said.
It’s only a matter of time now before he gets that first SEC offer.
He is ranked as the nation’s No. 18 defensive tackle and the No. 33 overall prospect in the state of Georgia for the class of 2017.

Am I the only one that thinks Hulk Jones has gained a lot of bad weight since the summer camps?
Posted on 12/30/15 at 1:06 pm to bamarep
He definitely doesn't need to be 370, nor does Deonte Brown need to be 350.
Daron Payne trimmed some bad weight going into his senior year. Jones apparently did the opposite, which means the conditioning program is gonna be a bitch for him.
Definitely powerful with a huge base, trimming up will help him on the snap...

Alabama cornerback Tony Brown is no longer in Texas, according to head coach Nick Saban.
"We have made an internal decision to send Tony Brown home due to a violation of team rules," Saban announced.
Brown has contributed on special teams for the Crimson Tide this season, registering 16 total tackles. The former five-star cornerback stepped in some with the first-team defense at Star and had been practicing with the safeties.
At the Crimson Tide's Media Day session at AT&T Stadium on Tuesday morning, Brown was present on the sideline.
In Brown's absence, junior defensive back Maurice Smith now moves up into the No. 2 spot in Star on the UA defense.

BOL posters are saying it was an incident at practice. If he is dismissed from the team it can only help us more with Knott.

I'm just posting this because I thought it was funny.

I've been thinking Brown is on thin ice for a while now. Do believe he will be dismissed or transfer.
