Star ratings and analyst rankings aside, some commitments simply seem more pivotal than others on the college football recruiting trail. Talented high school players can address positions of need, help turn momentum en route to national signing day or ultimately set the stage for future title runs.

We examined the country's current top 25 classes in an effort to identify those prospects who represent far more than a filled slot within their program's recruiting haul.

4. Alabama 4-star OT Jonah Williams

This 6'5", 296-pound lineman graded out as the top overall 2016 offensive recruit in California during our film study. Alabama, already loaded with All-American talent along the offensive front, is set to add another imposing figure.

Jonah Williams spent his junior season protecting record-setting quarterback and current Washington Huskies freshman Jake Browning at Folsom High School. Equipped to dominate at either tackle position, he exhibits tremendous athleticism and a physical frame that doesn't require much of a makeover for college competition.

"I've been training intensely since middle school, and I plan to continue that routine," Williams told Matt Long of The Folsom Telegram. "I always want to gain muscle weight and trim fat, while remaining mobile and well-conditioned."

He could become the heir apparent to replace Cam Robinson, a former 5-star recruit who started at left tackle for the Crimson Tide as a true freshman and should be playing on Sundays in 2017.

Nigel Knott will have surgery on his knee, will probably miss the entire season.

we typically don't fare well against OM in big recruiting battles for whatever reason.

Just saw the bolt.

At least it's a meniscus and not an ACL. He should be good to go for his Freshman season.

Chris Nee calls Ben Davis's recruitment similar to Humphrey's: LINK

Not sure what else he has to say because I can't read the VIP posts, but that sounds encouraging for us.

Newberg says they (the Noles) are a longshot for Davis. Nee says Bama strong favorite with Auburn a distant 2nd...

FWIW, Gruss on LSU247 site says that they have a decent shot at landing Ben Davis. Gruss is their equivalent of redfish.

hopefully thats right. we need him and wilson in this class, along with several more good des and at least one more DT. we are going to lose a bunch on the Dline after this year, and while the guys waiting behind them are also awesome, we need another good haul waiting int he wings

Shea's prediction for who they sign: LINK

Spoiler alert: They signing e'erybody.

Of note to us: Rashard Lawrence and Devin White are both on his list. He says it's 50/50 with Rashard Lawrence and us. Also said that if they miss out on Lawrence, they will probably get Gary or Raekwon Davis.

Florida QB plans to take official to #Alabama

Xavier Gaines. I wonder if we are heavily pursuing another QB for this class.
