The Opening: Demetris Robertson
Chad Simmons
National Recruiting Analyst
BEAVERTON, Ore. - Demetris Robertson is about to hit the road to focus on recruiting once he returns from The Opening. Four schools will host him for visits later this month...
Demetris Robertson has been showcasing his speed and ball skills in Oregon this week at The Opening.
Analysis: Where do you want Robertson to play? He is a top athlete who could project as a free safety, wide receiver or slot on the next level. His hands are a real strength and he is consistent there and has shown he can make the tough catches. Not elite top-end speed, but good release off the ball, quick and subtle moves when he gets the ball, and a real weapon on the offensive side. Robertson loves to compete and he goes hard at all times.
The former Alabama commit heads home this week, back to Savannah (Ga.), and he then plans to visit four schools before the end of July - Georgia, Stanford, UCLA, and USC.
One of those Pac 12 schools is in his top three and he talks about each of those, his plan for his decision, and more in this interview with Scout.

I got a pm for posting too many paragraphs. I guess I'll break recruit articles down to more posts, but it makes more sense to have it be on one post when it's about one player.

Way too much copy and pasting going on in this thread...and many without links to the source. You can paraphrase all you want, or copy 1-2 paragraphs max...but you must always include a link. No linking to premium articles...thanks

All of my copying and pasting is done from free sites like al.com and the free Scout articles. I wouldn't have access to the info if it wasn't free because I don't subscribe to paysites anymore. I always link them. I guess I don't see the problem

Rashard Lawrence knows that people feel he's an LSU lock, but the 5-star recruit maintains that he's keeping his options open. Lawrence, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive tackle from Neville, La., said he's considering every school that's recruiting him.
"They're not a favorite because I haven't said anything about a favorite," Lawrence said at The Opening in Beaverton, Ore. "That's kind of the perception I get. That's ok, they can think that, but I don't have any top schools right now."
One school heavily in the mix is Alabama. Lawrence said he hears from Alabama "every day, a lot, all the time."

Lawrence on visits:

Lawrence said he's made three or four trips to Tuscaloosa and plans to visit again this summer.
"It's the Louisiana connections," Lawrence said, noting Alabama's success signing high-profile players from the state. "(Current Alabama players) Denzel Devall, Hootie Jones, Cam Sims, big Cam Robinson, all of them, they're my boys."

He has more than 20 offers, including Auburn, but he said the Tigers haven't recruited him hard as of late.
"If they come back (and recruit me), absolutely (I'd consider them)," said Lawrence, who has yet to make a trip to Auburn. "But they really haven't been talking to me. If they do, I'm going to take it. If they don't, it all depends."
Lawrence said LSU continues to recruit him "real hard" and the fact that LSU is close to home keeps the Tigers in the mix.
Lawrence said he hopes to make his decision after his senior season, but before National Signing Day.

LSU is trying to use the playing time angle with Ben Davis and Mack Wilson.
Quote from Ben Davis:

Quote from Ben Davis:

Lyndell Wilson and Ben Davis, both from the state of Alabama, are two of the top linebackers in the country. Steele began recruiting them while with the Crimson Tide, and he's carried that relationship to LSU. Now the Tigers have emerged as legitimate contenders for both players. The two recruits took a visit to Baton Rouge in May for the Bayou Picnic. When asked at The Opening by Scout's John Garcia about recent trips they'd taken, both mentioned LSU as one of the best.
“I really liked LSU," Davis said. "That was my first time there, and I’m anxious to get back and see more about it…I got to see the stadium. Baton Rouge is really cool. I liked it down there.”

Wilson shared the same sentiment. He particularly singled out LSU's primary recruiting pitch.
“I got a chance to talk to Les Miles," Wilson said. "He told me I could be one of those guys that plays straight off the bat with my abilities. As long as I get the playbook down, he doesn’t see a problem with me playing as a freshman.”

Their writer also mentions a transition to the 3/4:

quote:
LSU would probably need both of these guys to play immediately should they wind up in Baton Rouge. The Tigers will lose at least two of its starting linebackers in 2015, possibly three should Kendell Beckwith depart for the NFL.
Especially with LSU transitioning to a 3-4 defense, the Tigers need all the linebackers they can get in this 2016 class.
