With the game in AL does it seem fitting to pick UA or is it just because the game will be nationally televised? I really do not know where he stands on our board compared to others at the position or if he is a take.

Apparently BOL's Travis Reier's daughter was at the special teams camp as well.

Leeds RB Tre' Nation talks favorites, commitment timetable

Tre Nation talks favorites, commitment timetable
Leeds running back Tre Nation talks recruiting at the Cam Newton Foundation 7-on-7 series in Birmingham on June 5, 2015. (Wesley Sinor/wsinor@al.com)

Tre' Nation has yet to play his senior season of high school football, but he's already bulldozed his way to 5,681 yards and 73 touchdowns on the ground for Leeds — and several college football programs are taking notice.

Louisville and Cincinnati are the frontrunners for 6-foot, 220-pound back, who broke down his recruitment Friday during the Cam Newton 7-on-7 tournament in Birmingham.

"It's going pretty good, a lot of schools are looking at me," Nation said. "I'm kind of liking Louisville the most right now, and I like Cincinnati. I know both of them run the ball, and I can get a good education there so that's why I like the schools."

Nation is currently ranked as the nation's No. 2 fullback in the 247Sports Composite. He rushed for 2,050 yards and 27 touchdowns last season for the Green Wave, which capped the year with a Class 4A state championship.

Nation plans to visit Louisville, Cincinnati and Vanderbilt this summer. He camped at Alabama earlier this week and is hoping to earn an offer from the Crimson Tide, in addition to Georgia and Wisconsin.

As for a commitment, it could be right around the corner.

"I might commit somewhere around my birthday (Oct. 21), but if not then I'm going to commit before the season," he said.

Ryan Johnson, Darius Whitfield head another strong St. Paul's class of recruits

Football players at St. Paul's don't return for summer workouts until June 22, but that doesn't mean coach Steve Mask hasn't been busy in the meantime.

College coaches call him constantly inquiring about the future of some of his most talented players. At least eight Saints are receiving offers or have heavy interest from multiple colleges this summer.

Rising seniors Miller Mosley, Ostin McPherson, B.J. Edmonds, Colton Watkins, Bryce Huff and Darius Whitfield, junior Ryan Johnson and sophomore Jalyn Armour-Davis are all expected to sign scholarships to play on the next level in the coming years.

"This isn't unusual around here," said Mask, whose team went 15-0 and won the Class 5A state championship in 2014. "I think we have averaged signing about five players a year and have had 14 guys sign in the last three years. I think it speaks volumes of the job our coaches do, and obviously we have some pretty good DNA. We've got talented kids, and college coaches know they will be successful academically."

Though he just finished his sophomore year, Johnson has received a lot of the attention lately. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive lineman has offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Duke, Troy and Clemson. He also spent part of this week at an Alabama Camp, and Mask said he did well there.

"Ryan is very, very intelligent," Mask said. "He's a great student. On the field, he has great flexibility and great explosiveness. You really don't realize how good he is until you watch his highlight tape. When you have he and Whitfield and Huff, that's a pretty good defensive line."

Whitfield, a 6-foot-3, 283-pound offensive and defensive lineman, has offers from Kentucky, Miami, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Minnesota, Southern Mississippi and Florida.

His older brother, Josh Casher, signed with Alabama two years ago, but the Crimson Tide has not offered Whitfield yet. Mask said he could play either offense or defense at the next level depending on a school's needs.

"Darius is kind of projected as a football player and they will figure out what to do with him when he gets there," he said. "He has a tremendous chance to be a really good football player on either side of the ball. He is super explosive and can really run."

Mosley and Edmonds have seen their offers increase lately.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Mosley is 25-3 as the starting quarterback for St. Paul's. He has offers from Army, Navy, Air Force, Wofford, Charleston Southern and Kennesaw State and interest from Furman, Arkansas State and Georgia Tech.

"He has unbelievable speed," Mask said. "He's the fastest kid on our team. Miller is a legitimate 4.4 kid. He also is a winner. He has only lost three games as a starter in two years."

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Edmonds plays running back and linebacker and could play either position in college. He has offers from South Alabama, Louisiana Tech, Cincinnati, Troy, Arkansas State, Western Kentucky, Jacksonville State and Louisiana-Monroe.

He and Mosley are attending a came at Georgia Tech on Saturday. Edmonds plans to work out at Auburn on Sunday morning and at Mississippi State on Wednesday.

Mask calls Huff (6-3, 245) the "best kept secret in Mobile." The defensive lineman/linebacker has offers from South Alabama, Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas State, Alabama A&M and Louisiana-Monroe. Mask said Auburn also really likes him.

The 5-foot-8, 170-pound McPherson, a finalist for Class 5A Back of the Year in 2014, has offers from Southern Miss, Alabama State, Kennesaw State and Army and interest from Samford and Arkansas State.

Watkins (6-3, 285) is also getting a lot of looks right now on the offensive line.

Armour-Davis (6-1, 165) is the youngest of the group. The cornerback/wide receiver will step into Jalen Thompson's role as a playmaker on both sides of the ball. His size at corner intrigues colleges, and he already has offers from Kentucky, Auburn and LSU.

Wilson lived up to his five-star rank on Saturday morning and had a lot of success during the one-on-one session. He had two interceptions and one of them came when he jumped a shallow slant route. Wilson is deceptively fast and kept up with the running backs on their downfield routes. Even against the tight ends, Wilson used his speed to his advantage to stay within an arm's length.

Rashan Gary at #4

quote:

Gary brings a "wow" factor because he is so quick and aggressive for a player his size. He won one-on-one reps in a variety of ways. Gary used a rip move to the outside a lot but came back to the inside a few times, using his speed to cut across the face of the offensive lineman. A lot of times it looked like the offensive lineman's initial punch was going to knock him off balance but Gary was able to keep his feet and use the momentum to get to the quarterback.

Kendell Jones at #12

quote:

The sheer size of Jones is one of the most impressive aspects of any of the players at the camp. His pure strength is enough to put most offensive linemen on skates. Jones used an outside rip move almost exclusively but there weren't really any offensive linemen that could stop him. Baveon Johnson slowed Jones down a few times and even knocked him off balance once but Jones was almost unstoppable.

Davis is up to 6-foot-3 and 236 pounds but looked terrific in coverage with his long frame. Davis looks like the ideal prospect to fit in a variety of schemes and he has the ability to play either inside or outside at the next level. He seems to save his best play for the biggest events, and Saturday was no exception.

McBride spent the spring dominating on the track but it didn't hurt his football prowess one bit. The physical specimen moves very well in space and can cover running backs and tight ends with the best of them. With his physical tools, McBride belongs with the elite prospects and once he adjusted to the competition level he had an excellent day.

From Barton Simmons on Hurts:

quote:

Just talked with the camp director out here at the Elite 11. They had wanted him to commit on their life stream today but Jalen didn't want to. He didn't know want the extra attention. In fact he asked them to tweet the commitment for him.

Dude is all about ball. If you look at the guys that have been successful at Bama. They're guys like Amari Cooper and TJ Yeldon who are all business and I think hurts has that same mentality. Don't expect a circus around his recruitment. He's just gonna be working. Think he's gonna be a guy with a chance to emerge this week because he's really talented.

Hurts came in at #5 on 247's Elite 11 Performers yesterday:

quote:

5. Jalen Hurts (Alabama commit) – Hurts can do some things athletically that not many quarterbacks are capable of outside of the pocket because of his arm strength and body control. Inside of the pocket he has some great tools too though, particularly a high release and a balanced strong base.

More from Barton Simmons on Hurts:

quote:

I noted in my other note yesterday that I like Hurts' mentality. His all-business approach. I think that's big. But there's a lot of other things to like about Hurts. For one, he's a big strong kid. He's probably about 6-2.5, he's thick and strong, will be able to take a pounding but he's also really athletic obviously. Here's the thing though and I noticed in the other thread that there's maybe some doubts about the take by Alabama? Let me say this, if you're comparing Hurts to Jawon Pass, there is no question whatsover that Hurts is the more advanced passer at this stage. It's not even close. Pass may have more upside because he isn't very polished as a passer and he is bigger and he's athletic but Hurts is plenty big enough and may be even more athletic. I really think HUrts will emerge as one of the better QBs in this class and he was one of my favorite QBs on Saturday. Hurts has a really high release, he has a great base inside the pocket and he he made a couple of the day's more impressive throws on the run yesterday.

On Sunday, they will add a defense to the equation and force the QBs to go through progressions, make the correct reads and beat defenders. With a good day on Sunday (the more important day of the two), I think Hurts should get a finals invite.
