quote:what is WTF about holcombe? guy is fast, long, can cover, has range, tackles like bobby boucher, and is a bama legacy. he is the kind of versatile player we need on the field against these hunh douchebags.
The commit. Last year was Holcombe for me. This year? Who knows?

Umm... Do you remember at the time the general reaction to Holcombe's commitment?
That is what I am referring to. The guy commits to Miss St. because he doesn't have a committable offer from Bama, and then turns around and commits to Bama within a week and a half. The timing was peculiar, and the general feel at that time is that we didn't have enough space. I actually like his film and what he did at the Al-MS game, but there was nobody that was expecting his commitment at that time. Thus, the reaction of wtf, not so much his skillset, but how the commitment came out of nowhere and wasn't initially well received.

Also Montel McBride to a certain degree but his film clearly shows how physical he is and losing Talamaivo AMA needed to add another inside physical OL

Shy Tuttle info:
I guess that's not bad news.
quote:
Tuttle visited Alabama last summer for three days. Linebackers coach Kevin Steele has now taken over his recruitment for Rumph.
“He’s pretty cool I guess. The new facilities and weight lifting and stuff. That was pretty cool,” detailed Tuttle.

quote:
-The Mississippi recruit that gets away (also known as the Tony Hampton award winner) I think it will be Jamal Peters this year.
As long as it's not Leo Lewis.
quote:
-The "how did they manage that" recruit. Last year was Hand and Evans, year before that was Ashawn. Who might it be this year?
Martez Ivey. I can feel it.
Not really, but he would certainly fit the bill for this category.
WR Christian Kirk is another guy that may fill this spot if Kiffin can get him on campus.
quote:
-The slow-played and regret recruit: Last year was Roc Thomas. This year I think will be Maurice Smitherman. I have a feeling he is going to be a good one.
Good choice. I'm going with OLB Amonte Caban. Kid is ranked in the Top 247, from the state of Alabama (Smiths Station), and the only in-state schools to offer so far are Troy, UAB and Alabama State.
He's ranked ahead of 4 other in-state kids that have Bama offers too.
He's a stud. Looks like he got shot out of a cannon when he finds the ball carrier.
quote:
-The recruit we think should be in the bag, but doesn't come for whatever reason. Last year was Tyler Luatua. This year might be Jake Fruhmorgen or Dallas Warmack (if he decommits)
Fruhmorgen. Especially if we get Ivey.
quote:
-The Calloway-Yeldon-Liner-Foster-Evans recruit: The one who appears to be AU bound only to shun them for us at the last minute. Hmm... Kerryon Johnson? Daron Payne?
I think Johnson either comes to Alabama or goes to FSU. I think we will lead for Payne throughout the process and he will commit to us in the end.
My nominee is OT Tyler Carr. He appears to favor Auburn at the moment, but we all know how those situations end.

Speaking of Amonte Caban, this is a quote from him he made on Sunday after visiting Mississippi State:
I guess I'll trade him for Leo Lewis if it comes to that.
quote:
"Mississippi State is definitely my leader right now with that offer," said Caban. "I am taking things slow and I am not making a commitment right now but I am really feeling Mississippi State. I am probably going to make one sometime before my senior season and if not then, it may be during the season if I can."
I guess I'll trade him for Leo Lewis if it comes to that.

Caban is so light need to watch some film but I think if he comes to camp (which I'm hoping he will) he might get an offer

He's a violent SOB. His profile lists him at 210 pounds. That LB we offered from California yesterday only weighs 205.

5-star (on Rivals) WR Calvin Ridley wants to visit:
He also has no problems leaving the state of Florida:
quote:
For the Coconut Creek (Fla.) Monarch star, he has four schools he said he definitely wants to check out, and those schools include Louisville, Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia.
"Four schools I'm going to visit for sure," Ridley told CardinalSports.com. "I just want to go to the ones that I've never seen before. Those are the ones I want to see."
He also has no problems leaving the state of Florida:
quote:
Ridley named Miami, Georgia, Alabama, Louisville, and Tennessee as schools that are recruiting him the hardest, but noted that there are a lot of schools that are coming after him.
"I'll go out of state," Ridley said. "I'm looking for the best fit, regardless of where it is. I don't know if that's the SEC, but I like the SEC. I like the ACC, I don't know yet."

Jarrick Williams made BR's "Seniors With the Most to Prove" list:
quote:
Alabama defensive back Jarrick Williams will have some big holes to fill in 2014. That’s because his team only returns one starter in the secondary and only five in the defense altogether.
Two of those losses include safeties Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Vinnie Sunseri.
In 12 games last season, Williams recorded 40 tackles (2.0 for loss), 1.0 sack and broke up two passes. Although his numbers don’t pop off the stat sheet, they’re impressive considering the Mobile, Ala., native missed the entire 2012 season with an injury.
Now, Williams’ experience will be called upon by head coach Nick Saban to fill a vital position for the Tide.
Does he have what it takes?

Bleacher Report asks the question "Who can Topple Alabama in Recruiting?":
quote:
Nick Saban surrendered the throne as defending national champion to Jimbo Fisher in January, ending a two-year reign. Yet, the iconic Alabama head coach still hasn't relinquished his spot atop the recruiting universe.
National signing day delivered another supremely talented haul to Tuscaloosa in 2014. Saban and his staff secured signatures from a nation-high six 5-star recruits and landed America's No. 1 recruiting class for the fourth consecutive year, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.
Alabama was challenged throughout by SEC rival LSU, but Saban stole top-ranked offensive tackle Cameron Robinson and elite safety Laurence Jones from Louisiana. Conference foe Texas A&M also surged in recruiting rankings but couldn't keep pace with the Tide, who capped the class off with a commitment from 5-star Auburn High School (yes, that Auburn) linebacker Rashaan Evans on signing day.
"When I was up there at the podium, I was thinking, 'Man, maybe I should go to Auburn,'" Evans told ESPN.com. "But then I really thought about it, and Alabama was the best place for me."
That sentiment rings true for many top-tier recruits these days. Saban and his staff are extremely selective when extending scholarship offers so players are often quick to pull the trigger when one comes their way.
"I've never heard anybody say they've had a bad class," Saban told ESPN.com "I've never heard anybody say they haven't identified their needs. So I'm going to say the same thing: We had a good class and we sort of identified our needs."
Sort of?
Alabama added the nation's top-rated players at strong-side defensive end (Da'Shawn Hand), outside linebacker (Evans), offensive tackle (Robinson) and center (JC Hassenauer). The Tide signed two 5-star cornerbacks in Tony Brown and Marlon Humphrey.
That's the depth that Alabama adds on an annual basis and these classes only seem to be growing stronger. The Tide's recruiting success has been the envy of every fanbase in the nation, while opposing coaches know any battle with Saban is likely to last until signing day.
With three national titles in the past five seasons, Alabama is viewed as a powerhouse program by today's teenage football standouts. When you also recognize the slew of Heisman contenders that have emerged in Tuscaloosa during Saban's tenure (Mark Ingram, AJ McCarron, Trent Richardson and soon T.J. Yeldon), it's apparent why premier prospects are pulled by the Tide.
Still, there are several squads within striking distance of Alabama in this 2015 recruiting cycle.
Texas A&M currently carries the distinction of top-ranked team in 247Sports' composite class rankings. Kevin Sumlin has expanded the Aggies' recruiting reach into SEC territory.
The team added New Orleans athlete Deshawn Capers-Smith on Sunday. Texas A&M has already made offers to 13 Georgia juniors, per Atlanta Journal Constitution reporter Michael Carvell (h/t WSB-TV in Atlanta).
LSU is always in the mix and Les Miles built momentum with an outstanding close to the 2014 recruiting cycle. The Tigers currently hold commitments from 5-star defenders Kevin Toliver (cornerback, Jacksonville, Fla.) and Maea Teuhema (offensive tackle, Keller, Texas).
Continued out-of-state success is crucial for LSU because Alabama has proven it can pluck prospects from any part of the country.
However, Saban did lose his grips on prized 2015 quarterback Ricky Town last month. The 5-star Ventura, Calif., recruit flipped his commitment to USC and left Saban searching for alternative options.
The Trojans stormed up recruiting rankings on signing day and Steve Sarkisian may quickly have that program contending for the No. 1 spot again. A strong season on the field could return USC to its past state of recruiting dominance.
Florida Sate is surely benefiting from its championship run and Jameis Winston's Heisman Trophy season. The Seminoles' 2015 class currently ranks fourth nationally and the team aims to close in on several key commitments in the coming months, most notably top-rated defensive tackle Trent Thompson (Albany, Ga.) and coveted running back Jacques Patrick (Orlando, Fla.).
Urban Meyer could be viewed as Saban's greatest contemporary recruiter. Ohio State landed a top-five class in 2014 but currently holds only three commitments—one 4-star prospect—for next year.
Alabama's 2015 class already features six 4-star recruits. Five-star defensive end Mekhi Brown is the latest Georgia product to pledge his allegiance to the Tide.
"Hopefully next year's class can be even better than what Alabama has coming in this season," Brown told Bleacher Report earlier this month.
Miles, Meyer and Sumlin will spend the next year searching for the optimum 2015 class. Still, history suggests their efforts may again fall short of what Saban has in store on signing day.

I love this quote from the story above. Apparently the author has not been paying attention to the 2015 class and the amount of offers going out.

With Alabama set to begin spring practice in less than a month, Nick Saban and his staff will officially begin their preparations for the upcoming 2014 season.
Chief among his concerns will be replacing a number of key contributors from last season’s 11-2 squad, including finding a successor to quarterback AJ McCarron.
A number of players from the decorated 2013 recruiting class will also be in the spotlight, with former stud recruits such as Derrick Henry, Reuben Foster and Robert Foster all getting a chance to earn valuable reps that could pay dividends in the fall.
Which players on the Tide’s roster have the most to gain in spring practice?
Posted on 2/28/14 at 8:46 am to TideSaint
quote:
Reggie Ragland
With the departures of C.J. Mosley and Adrian Hubbard, Saban and Kirby Smart will be searching for a pair of new starters in the middle level of the Tide’s defense.
Considering Alabama signed four talented linebackers in the 2014 class and with a talented sophomore such as Reuben Foster in contention for extra snaps this fall, rising junior Reggie Ragland is entering the most critical spring of his career.
The 6’2”, 259-pounder has registered 25 tackles in limited action over his first two seasons. If he can prove he has a firm grasp of the system, he should put himself in a solid position to earn a starting job heading into fall practice.
If he’s unable to lock down a pivotal role entering the summer, members of the decorated freshman linebacker class may cut into the available snaps at his position heading into the fall.

quote:
Eddie Jackson
Alabama’s secondary endured its share of rough moments last season, with most of the struggles coming from the corner position.
One of the few bright spots at corner came from the strong play of true freshman Eddie Jackson against Ole Miss. However, he was relatively quiet for the rest of the season due to what Saban described as a typical freshman lull, as noted by Andrew Gribble of AL.com.
This spring, Jackson has to build on his limitless potential and show the staff and his teammates he is focused on bringing the same intensity level to every practice and game moving forward.

quote:
Dee Liner
While standout freshmen defensive linemen A’Shawn Robinson and Jonathan Allen saw plenty of action last season, fellow 2013 class member Dee Liner’s debut campaign consisted of a lone appearance in a game against Tennessee.
Considering both Allen and Robinson are strong bets to be an integral part of the Tide’s rotation along the defensive line, it’s important for Liner to assert himself this spring.
The 6’3”, 281-pounder is a versatile lineman who recorded 23 sacks over his final two prep seasons. With the Tide looking to upgrade their pass rush, Liner has an opportunity to step up and answer the bell starting with next month’s practices.
Posted on 2/28/14 at 8:48 am to TideSaint
quote:
Robert Foster
Alabama loses a pair of dependable receivers in Kevin Norwood and Kenny Bell, but there are a number of promising young pass-catchers anxiously awaiting a chance to crack the rotation.
Atop that list is former 5-star recruit and redshirt freshman Robert Foster.
As Gribble of AL.com details, the buzz has quietly been building for the 6’2”, 185-pound Foster.
Foster has the size and athleticism to bring an explosive element to the outside receiver position opposite Amari Cooper.
