I know that he doesn't have the greatest 40 time

Anybody know what he ran today? I've seen this posted before about his 40 time, but it seems he's always running passed people.

that's because 40 time is a poor indicator of football speed

Recruiting and eval notes on #Alabama commitments (another to be added?) after today's 1st session at @TheOpening2014

I don't subscribe to Scout. I'm assuming the "another to be added" is referring to that silent commit, whoever that is. Anyone?

Jacques Patrick is a load. He Looks like a huge linebacker on the hoof. He’s going to be extremely difficult for anyone to bring down as he’s all of 6-foot-3, 230-pounds. Reminds some of James Wilder, Jr.

Damien Harris was very good during the whole practice and looks like the type of back that gets better with the pads on. He makes game-like cuts, runs low and looks powerful.

PATRICK FAVORS TWO

Orlando (Fla.) Timber Creek running back Jacques Patrick says he has two co-leaders at this point and he will visit both schools next week.

Orlando (Fla.) Timber Creek standout Jacques Patrick had an impressive first day at The Opening in Oregon. Patrick, a four-star running back prospect, was part of an impressive position group.

”There were some good guys out here,” Patrick said. “For me it’s just about competing with those guys. I am a four-star and I want that fifth star so I am working hard. I thought I did well.”

Patrick, 6-foot-2, 230-pounds, is a monster of a back. He’s a between the tackles guy who can run with a tremendous amount of power. Patrick can also catch the football, which he showed during the first session.

Afterwards, he had some big recruiting news.
”I am going to narrow things down to five schools by the end of the month,” Patrick said. “Right now my top two schools are Florida State and Alabama. And I will visit both of those schools next week. I will also go to Friday Night Lights football camp at the end of this month. I have already been to Michigan and Notre Dame this summer.”
It’s interesting because FSU was the first team that offered Patrick over two years ago while Alabama loves to have that big, power running back.

”Yeah, the Seminoles were my first offer and Jimbo Fisher has been personally recruiting me,” Patrick said. “That’s big to me. I love the guy. He can flat out coach and he has proven that. What he did last year speaks to that. I also love coach [Rick] Trickett and coach [Jay] Graham. It’s a place where I feel very comfortable.

”You can’t go wrong with Alabama and they have the track record at running back to prove it,” Patrick said. “For me, it’s a great fit because they like backs like me. If I can get on the field early I can be a three and out guy there. They have proved that with the other guys. It’s a super coaching staff and they have a great offensive line.”

Best pro-style build: Blake Barnett (Corona, Calif./Santiago)
At 6-foot-4 1/2 and 200 pounds, Barnett has the frame to develop into a pro-style body in the Tom Brady mold. It's easy to see the Alabama commit playing college ball at around 220 pounds, giving a strong, athletic presence in the pocket.

Alabama commit Calvin Ridley was, in a word, ridiculous today. He's about as physically gifted as any player in the country and today he really stood out among a lot of excellent wideouts.

Friendly reminder that coverage for the Opening starts on ESPNU in a couple of minutes.
