I wonder how many "student" athletes have kids they are having to support.

I'm impressed at how AU fans can say Evans deserves the treatment him and his family are getting IRL.

Well his whole family are in Auburn and surrounding area and all (by all accounts) are big AU fans
The scheme fit and a friend being at Bama won out in the end but it is a hostile situation for him I'm sure

Just watched some of Daron Payne's film. Not that explosive but very powerful.
If we get him, I see him as a NG. Don't seem him playing end with those tools.

He's been timed at 4.8 FLAT in the forty. That's pretty damn explosive if you ask me.

40s test straight line speed not explosion. Explosion would be more along the lines of his first 10 yards and his shuttle times.
Also, doesn't matter if you time quick and can't play at that speed. Playing speed can be very different from testing speed. From his film he is more power than quickness/explosiveness. He is not a guy who is going to get after the QB. He is a guy who is going to be great at run stopping and plugging holes.

Bilal says he’s happy with whatever opportunities that potentially come his way, but there are two scholarships he’d love to receive.
“Alabama, I’ve always wanted Alabama,” he stated. “That and Notre Dame. They’re a great school. There are a lot of great schools out there.”
And not a lot of players like Bilal.
Asmar Bilal Highlights
Some people are comparing this kid to Jaylon Smith, starting LB at Notre Dame who was a 5-star in the 2013 class.

I've heard this a lot.
I'm really curious if Marlon Humphrey is as fast as I understand him to be. My understanding is that he is one of the fastest people in the USA but I could have read it wrong.

I don't know if Marlon is one of the fastest high school kids in the USA talk much persons. He is fast though with amazing speed/times for his age in regards to hurdling.
To your main point, yes; playing speed can be very different from testing speed.
Want an example? Watch Bo Scarbrough's film. Doesn't look like a 4.6 guy does he?

Holy shite. Malik McDowell still hasn't signed with anyone.
He wants to go Michigan State, the home school, but his parents won't sign the LOI.
WTF is going on up there?

Non-VIP (free) content, from the Vandy 247 site, regarding some guys we have offered that attended the 2014 Playmakers Academy 7 on 7 Sunday in Franklin, TN:
LINK
LINK
quote:
* DE Kyle Phillips - 6’4 245 lbs - Hillsboro (TN) 247Sports Rating: **** (96)
- Phillips worked out with the lineman on Sunday and didn’t seem to be taking his time with tryouts as a joke as he worked hard all afternoon and showed off his immense talents. He looked smooth and fluid throughout his drills and seemed active when conversing with other prospects. Recent buzz has Phillips looking at Tennessee as well as Alabama Ohio. St, Georgia and others including Vanderbilt. The Dores looked to be an early favorite for Phillips but with his stock rising with offers and the coaching change on West End things have cooled a little on the side of the Hillsboro 4-star with Vanderbilt. The new staff has already reached out to Phillips and made him an important piece in the 2015 recruiting process, even so far as to say they love him as a possible outside linebacker in their defensive scheme. Long way to go here so Vandy has time to make up room.
* LB Josh Smith - 6’4 215 lbs - Oakland (TN) 247Sports Rating: **** (90)
- Easily one of the best performers in attendance on Sunday was Josh Smith. He is a big guy that can really move. He showed great feet in passing drills and seems to have great instincts finding the ball. Smith has a lot of potential and you can easily see why his stock is on a serious rise with recent offers from Alabama, Auburn and Penn St along with others coming close to offering as well. Vanderbilt was one of the first schools to jump on Smith and is looked as a strong contender with his older brother 2014 Commodores signee Emmanuel Smith ready to join the team. Don’t look for Josh to make a decision anytime soon as he wants to play out his process as long as possible. Vanderbilt is certainly in the mix here but will have to fight off the best of the best in college football.

Tim Settle blurb:
quote:
Settle is really interested in Virginia Tech, especially after his visit this weekend. He has really enjoyed himself on campus with and without his teammate, 2014 signee, Greg Stroman, which is important. Settle is wide open right now, claiming no favorites, and the Hokies will have to fight off every big school in the country to land Settle, but right now the Hokies are in his mind and moving up his list. He is hoping to return to Blacksburg for the spring game as well as a game this fall.

Maurice Smitherman is going to Georgia this weekend. fricking Pruitt.
Some good news, however, is that Smitherman is no longer making an early decision:
I hope he waits to announce until after he comes to our camp this summer. I think he will get an offer once Saban sees what he can do on the field, in person.
Some good news, however, is that Smitherman is no longer making an early decision:
quote:
At one time there was talk of an early decision but that is not the case anymore.
“I am taking it slow right now,” he said.” My mom does not want me to commit. She does not want me to make an early decision. She wants me to wait all the way until signing day to take all my visits, so I will. I am going to do what she ask and not commit till then.”

LSU officially offered Leo Lewis:
quote:
Leo Lewis
Lewis, already a top 250 prospect, is ranked by the 247Composite as the No. 5 middle linebacker in the 2015 class. This past weekend, the LSU staff reached out to the Brookhaven, Miss., standout with an official scholarship offer, and the Tigers are pushing for Lewis to make a visit for junior day later this month. Alabama and Mississippi State are considered the early front runners, but will increased interest from LSU shake things up? Lewis last visited Baton Rouge for the Tigers win over Arkansas in the regular season finale, and he will likely now become one of the staff's top out-of-state targets on the defensive side moving forward.
