I think a lot of guys from this recruiting class we just signed are comparable to a lot of the top guys in the current draft class. What about you?
Yeah we got some good ones. I think our secondary guys could be Top 10 picks whereas I could see CRob going Top 5.
Cornwell may turn out to be like Blake Bortles too.

Daron Payne, five-star defensive tackle from Shades Valley High School in Ala., completed spring practice on Thursday night with a win against McAdory High SChool. Payne admits he isn't in the best shape. However, he didn't let that bother him during the game. Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and defensive line coach Bo Davis were in attendance.
"I need to drop at least 15-20-pounds," Payne said. "I am 342-pounds right now. I didn't practice a lot because of track. We just have to keep working hard. Keith (Mixon) scored so many touchdowns (4) tonight. That's why I'm so tired.
"I liked having the coaches out here watching me play. I am used to it now. They have been around here all day. It was cool having them here."

The most recent trip for the state's top player was a visit to Tuscaloosa for Alabama's A-Day game.
"The visit was good," he said. "I got to hang out more with coach Bo (Davis) and the staff. We found a common liking. We both really like cars. I like old school cars. He also likes old school cars.

"Alabama, Auburn and Florida State are coming after me the hardest right now," Payne said. "I hope to get down to Texas this summer. I want to take a return visit to Kentucky. I don't have a leader right now. Bama is probably coming after me the hardest out of all the schools.
"It's really not that big of a deal to me where people commit," he said. "At least not at this point. Big Lester (Cotton) and those guys are recruiting me for Alabama. He is always telling me to come be a part of the team."

Oakland (Tenn.) 4-star linebacker Josh Smith has hosted multiple coaches at school this week and today had a visit with several including Vanderbilt. Smith has been a top target of Vanderbilt's for going on two years now ever since the previous Dores staff recruited his brother safety Emmanuel Smith to Vandy (2014 VU signee). Smith has reportedly narrowed down his choices to Vanderbilt and Alabama and could be geared to making a final decision sometime this summer. Smith does plan to visit both Vandy and Bama again in the near future. His crystal ball has him headed to Vanderbilt at 71%.
I wonder where he is on our board.

I don't think he can commit until Jefferson makes his decision.
Posted on 5/9/14 at 11:09 pm to TideSaint
So he will probably be committing to Vandy then.
Isnt Jefferson an NSD decision? Not that that means anything anymore, as SBB and Ridley were supposed to be NSD decisions.

Non- VIP post on BOL on Coker:
quote:
My 10 year old son is working with a QB coach at QB country and after our session he asked us to stay and watch the next guy he had coming in so my son could see the bigger guys do the same drills. When we were done I noticed this huge dude stretching and the coach called him over to introduce my son to him. To my surprise it was Coker.
So after the small talk my son and I walked over and took a knee behind the drills to watch him go through his workout. First off he is a big bodied kid. Wide shoulders and good arm length.
The first drill was high knees over these five 6" hurdles then a sprint to this cone about 5 yards away. His balance and burst was awesome. Very fast twitch first step. He does all the little things right...keeps ball position through all the drills very consistent, opens his hips up with ease and on opposite direction rollouts rolls the ball from back shoulder to front shoulder (non throwing shoulder) very effortlessly.
His release is INSANE! No wasted motion whatsoever....the qbs that work with QB country are taught very specific throwing mechanics - flat L, vertical L, then hammer. JC does it perfectly. And when he releases it's like watching a whip crack at the end.
He can make all the throws...not even gonna list them all because it's pointless, he can make them all bottom line. Also the accuracy is off the charts. I watched him throw a GO route and he hit the reciever in the same spot 10 different times each time throwing it a little further down field. His leg drive and weight transfer are so smooth! When working the quick game (quick screens, slants, etc) from under center and out of the gun he does a great job of setting up with his back leg under his hip and get his front shoulder on target.
Lastly, he's simply an athlete. I've seen AJ workout once before so I am simply comparing JC to him since that's who we are replacing him with. JC is a great deal faster than AJ. I am pretty sure he will surprise people if he has to run the ball. Actually his running style almost reminded me of Matt Jones.
I know most probably know this already but figured id share. I meant to post this a couple of weeks ago after we watched him but I've been out on business trips and this the first chance I've had.
Oh and there is another kid working there that is transferring to Bessemer Academy from Leeds. PJ (cannot remember his last name). This kid is going to be really good. A legit 6'4 and probably 235. Needs to work on throwing mechanics (obviously will improve working at QB country) but his speed and running ability is off the chart. I think I heard someone say he already has an offer from Miss State.

Article on Mekhi Brown's recruiting for Bama:

How 4-Star DE Mekhi Brown Helped Alabama Land Epic Spring Game Recruiting Haul
By Sanjay Kirpalani , Featured Columnist May 8, 2014
It didn’t take Mekhi Brown long to realize something special was unfolding among the group of recruits in attendance for Alabama’s spring game last month.
However, even Brown—a 6’6”, 220-pound defensive end who has been committed to the Tide since April of 2013—couldn’t envision a one-day haul that netted Nick Saban’s club commitments from four recruits all rated among the top 100 nationally, according to 247Sports.
“I wasn’t expecting five commitments,” Brown said with a chuckle. “I was expecting more like one or two. Once that happened, we all just clicked instantly.”
The haul included corner Minkah Fitzpatrick, receiver Calvin Ridley, athlete Shawn Burgess-Becker and linebacker Leo Lewis—all of whom rank among the top six nationally at their respective positions.
Brown, who has served as the de facto lead recruiter among the contingent of Tide commitments, did his best to ensure all of the recruits were having a good time, including speaking to each player before they committed.
“I just tried to make them feel welcome,” Brown said. “I just asked them about how the coaches were treating them and making sure they were being treated well. It was cool because I felt like I had something to do with it.”
The key to his approach, he says, is building relationships and keeping in touch with players without being too aggressive.
“Basically, with me, I try not to force the issue,” Brown said. “I just try to be like a regular coach or recruiter. I tell them, ‘just do what is best for you.’ I’m not just going to bug them or anything like that. ‘Just keep in contact with me.’ That’s what I tell them.”
Selling the Tide to fellow recruits is easy for the Columbus, Georgia, product. The main factor that led him to commit to the Tide was how Saban and his staff laid out their plans for him on and off the field.
“I feel like the personality there on the field and off the field fits me perfectly,” Brown said. “They do a lot of community things. Coach Saban and those guys basically have a mentality where you have to be perfect and try to do things the right way. On the field, their tradition is great. The defense is really good and the coaches put you in positions to be successful.”
With Alabama steamrolling its way toward a fifth consecutive No. 1 recruiting class, Brown mentioned 5-star athlete Terry Godwin—who is committed to Georgia—and 5-star defensive end CeCe Jefferson as players he’s targeting in hopes of getting them to hop on board.
As for Brown’s summer plans, he mentioned LSU and Mississippi State as potential destinations. However, his only planned trips are a pair of visits to Tuscaloosa in June for the Tide’s summer camps.
In the meantime, before he gets to college, he has a few areas of his game he plans to work on before his senior season. Although he’s being recruited as a Jack linebacker in the Tide’s 3-4 scheme, one key characteristic defines what makes him such a coveted recruit—versatility.
“I know this year at my high school, I’m playing middle linebacker too,” Brown said. “So I’m doing a lot of coverage stuff instead of rushing the quarterback. I haven’t really rushed the quarterback since my sophomore year. I’m just trying to add more versatility to my game and sharpen up my coverage skills to play against those quicker receivers. That’s what they (Alabama) want me to do in college, so I feel like I’ll get a lot better at it.”
While he is focusing on his upcoming senior season, he’s already doing his part to make sure he helps assemble a 2015 class that will find success on and off the field at Alabama.
“We just know that when we get there, we are going to keep winning,” Brown said

Sounds good on Coker. Has all the tools. Really, what's the questions we have about him? Accuracy? I can assure you he's plenty accurate. Mental aspects such as looking off Safeties and reading coverages? I don't know where he's at there, but he worked his arse off to graduate and get here, I think that speaks to his work ethic. And Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin are two guys that will instantly increase your football IQ just by having them in the film room with you, especially when you have the work ethic to learn.
I wanna see it through a few games, but I think we're gonna have something special on offense. If this team is hungry and the OL goes out there with the intention of busting heads, I think we're gonna see some explosion on the ground and through the air. Cooper is gonna be looking to prove what you see on tape, and that's that he is a first round talent. He's gonna step up and Coker is gonna love throwing to him and Kiffin is gonna draw up a lot of plays to feed him.

The question is how will he handle pressure without experience.

ABDIW, who you like for the Saints today?
Wouldn't mind taking AJ to be honest if he slides.

I'd like a Center, some depth at Guard, one of the solid Inside backers still on the board, hell maybe Vinnie if he's there in the 7th.

Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart was by Toccoa (Ga.) Stephens County on Friday to see 2016 5-star offensive tackle Ben Cleveland. While at the school, Smart confirmed that the 6-foot-7, 322-pounder has held an offer from the Tide, the 5-star's father tells 247Sports.
Cleveland turned in a very impressive showing at Alabama's camp last summer. The north Georgia standout ranks as the no. 6 overall prospect in the Top247. His Crystal Ball currently points in the direction of Georgia, with the in-state Bulldogs holding 100% of the picks.

Savannah (Ga.) Savannah Country Day athlete Demetris Robertson holds a top two of Alabama and UCLA and showed up to the Georgia state track meet this weekend in Crimson Tide gear. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder already holds double-digit offers from the likes of Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, and South Carolina, among others.
Robertson previously visited Alabama on March 1- when he was offered- for a junior day. The coastal Georgia standout could be a WR or CB at the next level and has the Tide leading in his Crystal Ball. Robertson ranks as the no. 37 overall prospect in the Top247.
