5-star DE CeCe Jefferson to call Lance Thompson: Before his team's practice Tuesday afternoon, five-star defensive end CeCe Jefferson informed 247Sports' Thomas Goldkamp that he planned to call Alabama linebackers coach Lance Thompson later in the evening. Jefferson, a 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive end, has Alabama in his top group along with Florida.

"I'm probably going to go home and call coach Thompson tonight, chop it up with him a little bit," he said.

Do you think he would fit the mold better than Gentry?

FWIW - I agree with ABDIW, not really expecting whoever we take at QB to ever do much (since we lost Town), however, I do like Gentry's dimensions better and I dont see a huge difference in their respective arm talents. I also want to piss of UT and dont think Torrance Gibson is going there so if they missed on both I would be very happy.

And I'm just asking bc I respect your opinion ofcourse.

I don't think we have a mold for what Kiffin wants to do yet. I do know that Coker is more athletic than any starting QB we have had in a pretty long while so perhaps we are going to more athletic guys. You have to remember that Town was committed before we hired Kiffin, and he will never be considered a great athlete. What set Town apart were his mechanics, accuracy, footwork and experience running a Pro-Style offense. Both Waller and Gentry have a stronger arm than Town.

I like Waller's mechanics better than Gentry's. He looks smoother in his release and it looks almost effortless.

Both of them are very athletic QBs too, which leads me to believe my statement above even more.

Level of competition is also a pretty big factor, at least for me. Gentry is running over and around kids in New Mexico that wouldn't be near the field in a state like California.

I wouldn't be upset with Gentry. Don't get me wrong. But if I had to choose between the two of them it would be Waller. I think he has the better baseline skill set with a ton of upside.

If Kiffin is in for the long haul (and that is a big if) I am interested to see what happens with Cornwell with the move to more athletic QBs. Where do you think that leaves him?

I will, however, forego both Waller and Gentry for this kid:

quote:

Alabama extended a big-time offer Monday morning to Jacob Eason, one of the nation's best quarterbacks in the 2016 recruiting cycle.

Eason announced the news on his Twitter account, and it appears head coach Nick Saban made the call himself.

Couldn't be more exited. Just talked to coach Saban and got offered by The University of Alabama! #SEC #RollTide

-- Jacob Eason (@skinnyqb10) May 5, 2014

Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has served as the primary recruiter for the 6-foot-5, 205-pound Eason, who hails from Lake Stevens, Wash.

Eason took an unofficial visit to Texas on Saturday and told 247Sports he is also interested in Georgia, Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan and Alabama. He plans to make his commitment at the end of the upcoming season.

Eason is ranked as a five-star prospect and the No. 1 pro-style quarterback and No. 5 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite.

Cornwell is surprisingly very athletic for as big as he is. The knee injury will certainly take its toll on that, but by the time we need him he should be healed up nicely.

I think when healthy he fits into the same mold as Coker.

The Crimson Tide's recruiting class was No. 1 on all of the major websites in 2014. It's been the top-ranked class five of the past six years on Rivals.com.

Needless to say, there aren't any feel-good, two-star-to-NFL stories in Alabama's class of 2014 hopefuls.

All of the high school rankings come courtesy of Rivals.com. The position rankings when it pertains to the draft are from ESPN.

WR Kenny Bell (Rayville, La.)

High school: 4-star, No. 40 wide receiver, No. 12 player from Louisiana in class of 2009.

Draft projection: Seventh round-FA; No. 85 WR

CB Deion Belue (Tuscumbia, Ala.)

High school: 3-star, No. 24 player in Alabama, No. 82 CB in class of 2010

Junior-college: 3-star, not ranked among top 50 JUCO prospects.

Draft projection: Seventh round-FA; No. 38 cornerback

S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (Orlando, Fla.)

High school: 5-star, No. 1 safety, No. 1 player in Florida, No. 7 overall in class of 2011

Draft projection: As high as No. 10 overall. Shouldn't slip past No. 20; No. 1 S.

LB Adrian Hubbard (Norcross, Ga.)

High school: 4-star, No. 10 weakside defensive end, No. 13 player in Georgia, No. 189 overall in class of 2010.

Draft projection: Third-fifth round; No. 7 OLB

OT Cyrus Kouandjio (Hyattsville, Md.)

High school: 5-star, No. 1 offensive tackle, No. 1 player in Maryland, No. 4 overall in class of 2011.

Draft projection: Late first round-second round. No. 6 OT.

QB AJ McCarron (Mobile, Ala.)

High school: 4-star, No. 7 pro-style quarterback, No. 5 player in Alabama, No. 128 overall in class of 2009.

Draft projection: Second-fourth round; No. 6 QB

P Cody Mandell (Lafayette, La.)

High school: 2-star

Draft projection: Seventh round-FA; No. 5 P

LB C.J. Mosley (Theodore, Ala.)

High school: 4-star, No. 6 outside linebacker, No. 2 player in Alabama, No. 56 overall in class of 2010.

Draft projection: Mid-late first round; No. 1 ILB

WR Kevin Norwood (D'Iberville, Miss.)

High school: 4-star, No. 22 wide receiver, No. 5 player in Mississippi, No. 147 overall in class of 2009.

Yep. I'd say DC isn't quite as athletic as Coker, but he's probably got a quicker release. Big guy, definitely athletic. Reminds me of Andrew Luck physically, I believe you said the same TS. Not saying he has the football IQ that Luck has/had, but he's already exhibited leadership traits and has quite the head on his shoulders. I think he's the future. I really like Bateman too, I wish all three of Coker/Bateman/Cornwell could have their time to shine for us.

I have a fantasy in my head that Kiffin has realized (he hasn't) he's an OC and not a HC, and sticks it out as our OC until Saban leaves. This is of course under the assumption that he's legit, which I think he is.

He has a huge ego and I think in his mind he feels like he is HC material but he is still young enough to be able to take the demotion in stride but swing for the fences in a couple years

This is one thing I'd tell anyone to take notice of. When you watch a guy throw a football, especially deep, and you think "Wow, it looks like he's not even trying, but look at the throw!", he's a natural passer.

Watching Waller, I'd say he's better now, but Gentry could be better in a few years. From that I'd say Waller is who I want, because like I've said before, I don't expect this QB to ever be anything more than a good backup before transferring. I wouldn't mind being wrong.

Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett started spring practice on Monday, and Notre Dame defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder was on hand to check out Top247 linebacker Adonis Thomas and 2016 offensive tackle E.J. Price. On Tuesday, Kansas State, Virginia, Troy, Alabama and Florida were at the school.

Kirby Smart and D.J. Durkin stayed for most of the practice, with Smart staying until the very end. Smart let the Central Gwinnett staff know that Price now has an offer from Alabama.

I guess a case could also be made for Gadsden and Daphne, but I can't argue with the list.
