Rivals has Bessent listed six foot one and 188 pounds. His arrest report says he is 6 foot and 165 pounds....by the time he suits up for Auburn he will be 5'9 " and a buck fifty

Part of our QB issues have been the serious lack of in-state talent at the position for the past 5 years. We've had to go head to head with prospects home state schools since 2009.

Cornwell was a Top 15 player at one point. He didn't perform all that well at the Elite 11 Finals so he dropped.

If he hasn't gotten hurt halfway through the season he may have regained that 5th star.

Stidham appears to be "The Guy" with Town flipping. Again, we are going to have to fight the in-state programs (Texas, Baylor and TT) for him.

If we miss on him I don't know who we'll go after. California is loaded at QB this class, but practically every big school in CA, minus Stanford, needs a QB this year.

We may see a repeat of 2011 and 2012 where we miss on all the big guys and take a guy like Phillip Ely or Alec Morris just to land someone in this class.

Sorry if that sounds pessimistic.

Leo Lewis says Alabama and MSU stand out the most:

quote:

"Mississippi State and Alabama are really about the same to me right now," said Lewis. "But I am taking my time and I don't want to make an early decision. I am just looking at the family atmosphere at all of these schools. I want to see where I am able to mesh with the players and the coaches the best."

He rode to Starkville with an assistant coach. He rode with Jimmy Johns to our Junior Day. Hope he likes Jimmy more than his coach.

We've gotten CB predictions for the following guys in the past 24 hours:

Bradrick Shaw
Jake Fruhmorgen
Richie Petitbon
Jamal Peters

I would rather not offer a scholarship to any QB than get another Ely.

By all indications, Javon Robinson has turned into an absolute stud.

I really think Cornwell is stud. You can't coach size like that. He seems like good guy as well. I hope he leaves T-town with a few rings. And in state talent hurts, but I think Saban sucks at recruiting qb's. Auburn gets some pretty good ones

We have outstanding high school football in this state, it would seem we would have a couple of solid D1 QB prospects coming out each year. I understand why Jamies would pass, Aj having two more years of eligibility and all, but surely some of these high schools produce a QB we could use at least semi anually

I think Cornwell is the guy. He was one of the best qbs in the country with less than 2 years of playing the position. He's a prodigy. Most of the guys he went against in elite 11 have been playing qb since pop warner. My prediction is Cornwell turns into a absolute beast for us. And I hope we keep going after guys like Cornwell and coker in the future, and have some designed runs for then in or offense.

3? Maybe my math is wrong, but McElroy and McCarron only add up to 2, and Saban didn't even recruit McElroy.

QBs we've signed under Saban:
Fanuzzi - Terrible
Star Jackson - Terrible
AJ McCarron - Good
Phillip Sims - Better than terrible, far from good
Phillip Ely - Terrible
Alec Morris - Worse than mediocre
Cooper Bateman - TBD, but not looking good
Parker McLeod - Terrible
David Cornwell - Has potential.

We needed to bring in a transfer because after 3 years of AJ starting, we still don't have anyone ready to take over for him.

ETA: Let's just assume Cornwell pans out. Saban's success rate with QBs he's recruited is 22.2%
