Since the days of OBC in Gainesville, Media hypes the Gatas every offseason

They'll lose 4-5 games this year one will be to Bama, and until Coach Boom can prove to me he can win games with that D like Bama has been doing under Saban and doesn't lose games because of O or lack thereof...I'm not gonna be worried

The one thing about UF that scares me is their secondary. Tabor and VH3 against our first year starting qb? Then you look at our oline and you wonder if we will be able to run the ball as consistently as we did back in 2011, AJ's first year as a starter.

Meh

We still will have a damn good running game and you forget Nuss who seemed dedicated to balance is now gone so if we need to pound it to win that is what will happen

ETA: OL is gonna be better than you think this year, don't believe all the doom & gloom

The only thing with the OL is experience. We return three starters, but I'd say Kelly is the only one a sure thing to start. I'd have no problem with four new guys, really. Experience is big, but at this point talent prevails over the experience Arie/Shep has.

I don't think we're pulling away. But if we were, it wouldn't be the one and done thing. It's been obvious for a long time that he'd be a one and done.

Oh I know I don't think that is why staff is pulling away

On the OL the new guys like Shank have a hell of a lot of upside

Daron Payne says Bama is recruiting him the hardest. He talks to Bama almost every day. Previously he said that Auburn was recruiting him the hardest.

Lester Cotton got an invite to the Opening.

quote:

Several of the nation's top linemen clashed while rising stars at the skill positions put the recruiting world on notice during Sunday's Nike Football Training Camp event at Spain Park High School. The event, highlighted by several impressive 1-on-1 duals between elite offensive and defensive linemen, resulted in seven participants earning invitations to Nike's elite summer camp event The Opening in Beaverton, Oregon.

The event's highest profile battle came between two of the state of Alabama's top big men in Tuscaloosa star and Alabama commit Lester Cotton and Shades Valley High School five-star defensive tackle Daron Payne. Cotton finished the day by earning Offensive Line MVP honors at the event along with one of the coveted invitations to The Opening.

While Payne showed plenty of flashes of the power and ability that has earned him five-star status from recruiting services, it was a lesser known pass rusher, Clay-Chalkville's Kendell Jones, who earned an invitation to The Opening. The 6-foot-4 240-pound defensive end has attended junior days at both Alabama and Auburn this spring and holds a scholarship offer from Mississippi State.

Another offensive lineman emerged as one of the day's biggest surprises when Bessemer City star Darryl Williams picked up an invitation to The Opening after holding his own against the powerful Payne on multiple reps. Williams was one of three offensive linemen at the event to earn invitations to The Opening along with Cotton and Memphis offensive tackle Drew Richmond. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Richmond, who took an unofficial visit to Auburn on Saturday, is rated by 247Sports as the top overall prospect from the state of Tennessee.

At the skill positions, running back Tre Nation from Leeds joined defensive back John Broussard from Central-Phenix City as position MVPs from the state of Alabama while Tennessee stars Josh McMillon, Van Jefferson and Vasco Curry took home the top honors at linebacker, wide receiver and defensive line, respectively. Jefferson also earned an invitation to The Opening along with Memphis wide receiver Deddrick Thomas and Louisiana cornerback Xavier Lewis.

Article on Daron Payne:

quote:

Coveted five-star defensive tackle prospect Daron Payne told reporters on Sunday he is down to four schools will likely make his commitment on National Signing Day 2015.

The Shades Valley star said Auburn, Alabama, Florida State and Texas are his current leaders, in no specific order.

"It's going to be hard," Payne said before participating in the Nike Football Training Camp event at Spain Park High School. "I'm going to have to sit down, pray about it and talk to my family and coaches.

"I grew up an Auburn fan. I've just been wanting to play with them all my life, but then I got the Alabama offer and everybody wants to play with Bama. It's really hard."

The 6-foot-2, 334-pounder recently said the Tigers were recruiting him the hardest, but the Crimson Tide have been making a strong push this spring.

"Right now it's Bama," he said. "They're on my phone every day trying to talk to my mom and all that type of stuff."

Payne's most recent visit was to Alabama after attending Auburn's Junior Day. He enjoyed meeting with new defensive line coach Bo Davis at Alabama and Rodney Garner at Auburn.

"(Davis) is cool," he said. "I love him. I can get used to (his coaching style). I like 3-tech better, personally, but I can get used to it... Bama, the way they work, everything's got to be perfect.

Payne will visit Tuscaloosa for A-Day April 19 and may attend a practice at Auburn this spring. He hopes to visit Florida State and Texas by the end of the summer.

Free article from 247 on Top Performers at the Birmingham Nike Football Training Camp:

quote:

2. Lester Cotton, OG, Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Central
Among a very talented offensive line group, Cotton was clearly the best. He’s an interior offensive lineman that worked at both guard and center and his punch was staggering. Very coachable, with good technique, Cotton was also one of the first in line in every drill. There isn’t much we didn’t like about Cotton.

quote:

6. Javon Patterson, OG, Petal (Miss.) High School
We love the way Patterson bends. He’s flexible, shows good feet and he’s a competitor. While he lost a few reps in one-on-ones, Patterson may have been the best offensive lineman in the position drills as far as feet and movement skills. Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State and Auburn are the favorites.

quote:

9. Drew Richmond, OT, Memphis (Tenn.) University School
During one-on-ones, Richmond struggled at times with small, quick defenders but the skill set is there. He had the best offensive line body, he bends extremely well and his naturally athleticism is evident. We think he can be an elite left tackle with the right development.

quote:

10. Daron Payne, Birmingham (Ala.) Shades Valley
A five-star prospect, Payne’s performance didn’t come without concerns. He was out of shape and struggled completing the drills but at his best, Payne is elite. When he flashes that power, quickness and mean streak, Payne is a handful for every offensive lineman in the country. Consistent effort and better conditioning would make him unblockable.

I guess the top tier QBs for 2016 is something to shoot for, I would rather us save the spot so we have the "need" for a guy in a year.

Agreed. I would rather us not take a Phillip Ely or McLeod if we can avoid it. The problem is can we avoid it?

Let's say Coker wins the job this year. Alec Morris would be sure to transfer, as he would be a redshirt senior by the time Coker leaves. Blake Sims will be gone after this year.

For 2015 we would presumably have
Coker
Bateman
McLeod.
Cornwell

Although if Bateman doesn't win the backup job either I could see him transferring. If McLeod has any aspirations of ever being a starting qb I could see him transferring as well. If both of those happen we would be left with two scholarship quarterbacks.

While not ideal, numbers would dictate that once 2 of them announce transfers the 3rd would likely stay even if they were thinking of leaving.

I'm pumped a Central High product is showing out. Cotton has potential to be my favorite Oline of the Saban era

Staggering punches...

While we certainly don't need a QB this class is still gut wrenching to go from having Town committed to every one of the Top 15 Pro Style QBs choose everyone but us in the span of a few months.

The only real difference between now and when Town committed to us is the addition of Coker who should have no effect on the 2015 guys.

Did we not just have the Heisman runner up at QB? We can't land just one of these guys? They won't even have anything to do with Coker.
