Barely played. Purely schematic decision making?

Benton looked lost as hell. Asking Carter and McKinney literally every play pre-snap where to be in 2nd half.

We were in Dime. It was working more effectively and seems to be our best formation. Benton got smoked a lot but who knows, Mayden and Carter sucked too.

Lee was simply a matchup decision. He isn’t quick enough to play in Dime against LSU’s new offense.

I was befuddled by Harris though. As a former DB-turned-MLB, you would think he would have been a weapon in this matchup and instead he was AWOL.

I don’t understand this. Christian Harris is a better athlete and sure tackler than Benton, so why not have him as the dime LB? Between Golding, injuries, and personnel decisions, this D was destined to get exposed.

Mayden just can’t play man. He just is too un athletic and to top it off he can’t even wrap up a gimme sack or tackle. Play someone with some potential

Mayden would make a great flag football player in the co-ed leagues. He doesn’t have what it takes to play real football

Yeah but Mayden, Carter, and Davis bring leadership and experience to our defense. Why play the better player when you have guys that know the scheme already? AmIRite??

The fact 36 is playing at Alabama shows just how fuking bad the ILB position is as of today. That guy as zero football savvy. #10 must be dumber than dirt if he can't start with #8 and #35 ahead of him.

More than a few of our guys cannot handle the defensive assignments between their ears.

Barmore didn't get enough PT either.

On that one play we needed Jobe to be there instead of Diggs.

Yet he starts at Bama.....that proves all that talent isn't on the roster at that spot and that is a big problem for 2020...repeat for 7,21,5,and 36. The talent level decline at Bama on defense is real. 8 and are young but we're into 9 games and for the most part you've seen very little positive plays from them. Fact is they play because there is NOBODY behind them! Nobody, zip, zero, nada. Pruitt and Kirby got our needs.

I spotted Davis on the field yesterday. Assisting on a tackle of LSU's running back and still letting him stretch the ball out for a first down.

That was so Uno Package, it's not even funny.

So I'm reading these quotes from multiple guys here, all of whom I agree with. So if these guys just can't handle it here, on this team, with our complex defense, did we miss on these guys? Lots of guys are athletic, and lots get offers from everyone, but that doesn't mean they have what it takes to be successful here. I get that we've signed guys that were highly ranked the last three years. But the secondary the last two years has been the worst in the last 12 years. Have we failed in terms of adequately coaching them? I'm specifically talking about the upperclassmen in the secondary.

It's a coaching issue more so than a player issue. These same guys go to the NFL and look better than they did at Bama. That's about coaching.

Yep. Mack Wilson says hello (a lot of people here owe him an apology)

As bad as Diggs played he'll likely be starting next year in the NFL and playing well. Mack Wilson looked like the next great one under Pruitt. Pruitt leaves Mack regresses and now he's a starter in the NFL. It was also coaching that prevented Josh Jacobs from being a star at Bama. Robert Foster is becoming a solid pro, etc. Sometimes I think our coaches have too much talent to work with and end up doing more harm than good

I'll agree with the first part of your statement, but not the second. The guys who went on to the NFL...Kareem, Barron, Ha-Ha, Eddie, Minkah, Marlon...mostly looked pretty damn good and every bit like the NFL stars we thought they would be. There have been others who looked great here...Dee Milliner, for example...who didn't pan out in the pros.

Keep in mind that I'm only talking about the secondary.

Dave Aranda would likely give his nuts for the ILBers we had playing Saturday. We have 4 ILBers who could've went anywhere and who have elite physical skills. But, we can't coach up these guys? It's a coaching issue.
