Longtime Alabama assistant Burton Burns leaving for job in NFL (BamaOnLine)

Good deep dive read on Coach Burns:
Burton Burns is the hidden force behind Alabama's dominant ground game

Wow, didn't know Freddie Roach was considering a job with the Giants.

Apparently he turned it down to stay at Ole Miss, which makes me think it wasn't for an actual position coach spot. More of an escape plan if Kiffin didn't retain him maybe?

Good luck to Burns, hope he does well!

Never really understood the switch when he moved off field, more so now with him taking this job. Big reason Bama got into Louisiana as much as they did.

Maybe he got tired of recruiting? One helluva RB coach for Bama thougb .

Kinda like the Bobby Williams situation. Moved out of on field position, ends up as Asst Coach somewhere else.
Saban process?

Not sure coach Saban is the kind that gets all warm and fuzzy about people. Kind of like that reaction in his new recruit signing Aflac commercial. Probably not much of a stretch.

It appears that nobody knows "for sure" at this point except maybe Golding and/or Saban.

Some chatter tonight that Freddie Roach is expected to join Bama's staff as DL Coach, with Brian Baker potentially taking over the position vacated by Burton Burns. Tim Watts heard it from 3 "usually reliable" sources and an OM source as well. A connected poster on BOL said he's hearing the same and here's a Drew DeArmond tweet about it.

From the fact his contract was terminated and spent 2019 just collecting checks from Bama, guessing Coach Kool was a poor fit for Saban.

Seems they're on the move...again...for a DL Coach, would love to find some consistency there.

Saban wants someone like Tosh or Bo who is an A+ recruiter but also at least a B+ coach. There just aren't many of those though. And he had to fire Bo for lying to him about a recruiting violation and give Tosh a promotion he wasn't close to ready for just to keep him on staff. I understand why he is hesitant to bring Bo back even if the administration would approve it, but I think maybe it's time.

If we getting Roach, then were not getting Bo Davis. I suspect Saban is still getting pushback from the compliance.

I know Sal Sunseri has coached OLB and I believe he has coached ILB in previous stints at Bama. I am playing hypothetical here but Golding, Baker & one of Kelly/Scott could be let go, Ansley takes the DC spot along with helping with DBs. Sunseri takes over ILB. Roach to OLB and Bo to Dline. That would be a solid staff both coaching and recruiting wise along with having guys that have been with Saban. Again, I have no info but just thinking in my own mind some ideas.

I don't think Bo ever returns TBH, would have seen it happen already if it was wanted/possible.

I think that relationship took a hit after he was fired, which Saban HAD to do. It's a trust thing, no one is clean but Bo got caught in a lie.

We'll see soon enough, apparently he's hanging on by a thread as Detroit's DL Coach...

Alabama expected to have new defensive line coach (AL.com)
quote:

Alabama will soon have a new defensive line coach. Former Alabama player and staffer Freddie Roach is the name to keep an eye on for that defensive line job, according to sources. Roach is expected to be in Tuscaloosa Monday, per sources.

Current defensive line coach Brian Baker is expected to move into an off-field role, AL.com has learned.

Roach, who worked for the Crimson Tide in a support staff capacity in 2015 and 2016, just finished his third season as the defensive line coach at Ole Miss.

Ole Miss had just announced on Saturday that Roach would be remaining with the program as part of Lane Kiffin’s new staff and that he would have the titles of assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator in addition to being the defensive line coach.
