With Fowler coming back next year, does he play at hback? I've been impressed with Calloway, whether it's been on special teams or at RB.

OJ Howard was told he'll start his career at H-Back, and I doubt anyone stops him from starting.

Why wouldn't Howard be our TE? I figured he could start right away.

Well he was told he'd be the H-Back, and likely because he needs to put on weight and improve his blocking, and because Brian Vogler came on strong and emerged as a really good blocker this year.

As a true freshman, I doubt OJ would be able to block sufficiently for the starting TE role. I think he is gonna be at H-Back with Fowler and Calloway.

The good news is he's already on campus, which means Cochran gets a head start on him...

It's a good problem to have, but I hope he doesn't fall by the wayside.

Howard will get a lot of playing time, but I'm not sure he'll be the starter. With Fowler back, he presumably assumes his role of FB/H-Back/F-Back. In very few situations are both a FB and a H-B on the field together, so it will likely keep one off the field.

Fowler's experience and versatility should give an upper hand on anyone else.

And I think Calloway will follow Fowler if they decide to keep the hybrid F-Back moving forward. Of course by then, Howard will likely have a leg up on being in the base offense. Calloway is pretty quick for his size, sometimes goes unnoticed. Would be great at seam routes, he just has to learn the position. He hasn't exactly been helped out in that matter by the coaches and injuries to others, he's one of the top guys who will band aid a position because of injury.

So Calloway is done on defense?

From the sound of his interview with TideSports, I'd say so.

I think that was his only position to be useful at....I think he will forever be behind on the depth chart on offense

I think they will use OJ like Pats use Hernandez. He is a matchup nightmare in the slot and flexing him out of the backfield will completely screw up defenses.
