This.

Kirby is at his alma mater and contending for titles. There's no leaving that.

Clark would be another Franchione at best. Good to mild success before an unprecedented collapse.

I would be thrilled to have Bill Clark.

How so? Win the division in year 2?

I'd say he'd be more like a Gene Stallings, except with a better offense.

That game was in Fran's 1st season at Texas A&M. I think they had a crazy young team that year.

And you're basing that on what, exactly?

You got something against 4 SECCGs, a natty, and a greater than 80% win rate in 7 seasons?

Assuming we can't clone Saban, a guy that could match Stallings' record at Bama would be pretty much as good as you could reasonably hope for.

That's if you can find the next Gene Stallings, which frankly would be great. But it's not Clark. We need more proven leadership than Bill's UAB stint and one year at Jacksonville State. Stallings came to Alabama with assistant coaching experience, HC of Texas A&M, an NFL head coach and a Super Bowl ring.

Seriously, it's not hard to look at Alabama's boom and bust periods and realize, whenever we hand the keys to absolute proven commodities, we prosper.

When we hand it over to a "he was pretty good at this small job, maybe he'll do good here" or worse, a no experience assistant... we drop.

Those are called coincidences.

He was awful at Texas A&M and never had a winning season in the NFL.

And who are these coaches from smaller colleges that we've hired that caused us to drop? Perkins came from the NFL and left Alabama after a 10-3, top 10 season. Curry came from GT and left after a 10-2, top 10 season. Dubose only had 2 years of HC experience and it was in high school. Fran left after a 10 win season. Price never got a chance. Shula had only been an NFL assistant.

shite, Dubose even sucked at Prattville.

I misunderstood your gif. I thought you were saying NO to another Stallings. You are saying Clark will not be another Stallings. I don’t have an opinion either way on that issue.

Mike was the head coach at Prattville for one or two years in the late 70s. Prattville went 3-7 in 1979 with Mike in charge. They went 7-2-1 the year after under a different coach.

Jamie took over after Clark in the late 2000s.

did not know that. Of course Prattville was not much of a program in FB until about 20 years ago. Who was the first coach that made them relevant. Didn't Clark coach there and have success.

Prattville won the 6A state title in 1984 (14-1), that was also the first year they won more than 8 games. After that, they only won more than 10 games once (1990, 11-2) before Clark took over in 1999. Clark took over a bad program and went 7-3 and 9-2 in his first two years. They really got rolling in 2001 and continued until he left after the 2007 season. When he left, he was on a 30 game winning streak and hadn't lost a regular season game since a last second loss to Central Tuscaloosa in week 2 of 2002 (also didn't lose a regular season game in 2001).

Jamie Dubose was able to win another state title in 2008 to make it a 3-peat for Prattville. Then had a few down years before winning another in 2011. Jamie left for another school after 2011, and then the program tanked under Anderson.
