Our pitching will be down unless we get a portal like Beavers. I know there is a freshman coming in but I doubt she is as good as Beavers was. We going to have to win with or O next year.

Per another site, Kali Heivilin has announced she is returning (looking for confirmation)

Briski is really good and her coming back was huge IMO

Maybe because of this?

She has the potential to be national player of the year caliber with more stamina to go long and a 2nd pitch that she has command over to get strikes. Her rise ball has a lot of movement and is damn near unhittable short of guessing when she's dialed in.

conference BA was 236 with only 12 hits. Just the facts.

I replied to another but I do think Briski could be an ace with development over the offseason. They're probably going to need that freshman pitcher to be a capable 2nd arm like Briski was this past season. Really, the big thing is the offense. It has been years since Alabama has been able to win a game where the pitching wasn't dominant. Better offense makes things easier for the pitchers. It is a testament to the pitchers in the circle at Rhodes that they succeed with a lot of tight games where they can ill afford a mistake.

Eh, the offensive development is clearly an issue.
Program has a pretty good track record with pitching development.

Bro Murph has already replied to this and that it was a season with the new person to develop relationships. Yikes. Similar type comment he said early on that we win with great pitching and great D even if the O cant score.

Like I said if nothing changes then we are all fine with being MEDIOCRE.
Posted on 6/4/24 at 7:41 pm to Joka2kold
It’s not mediocre. It’s settling for making it to the WS, even if the team has no shot at a title.
The championship series he advanced to was ten years ago. Since then the team has only close to advancing that far - once? Maybe twice?
We’ve wasted Osorio, Fouts and Beaver with offenses that led to 1-3 in OKC the last two years. When Murphy got the title in 2012, the cap should’ve come off and it should’ve been the beginning of a run. Instead it’s been a demise in the eyes of the fans based on the high standards he set.
He has to change. Allow someone else to control the offense. If not, I guarantee we’ll be back here having this same conversation next year.

That last sentence pretty much agreed with what I posted.

It is not what we as the fans want to happen it is based on the reality of what just happened making it to the CWS. On to team 29.
On another note the UF SS who portalled out 3 years ago said the best decision she made was to become a gator. Yikes on Murph for not working to keep Wallace.

Disclaimer: I have not seen it first hand but read where Marlie posted on one of her social medias that she can’t wait for team 29. So I’m taking it as Gospel that she’ll be back.

Ah yes! Where have I heard that before? Doesn’t embarrass the program, is a good ambassador, the kids love him, yada yada yada. You just described Mike Shula and Avery Johnson. The only difference is Murphy is losing at a higher level. Shula refused to change his approach and he got canned. But hey, he’s a great ambassador so let’s let him complete his demolition of the Alabama softball program before we tell him to either shake things up or you’ll be part of the change. It’s also blatantly obvious that Murphy plays favorites and if you’re not among them, you can go frick yourself. Montana Fouts could’ve told him to put his nuts in a wood chipper and he would have for her. But you tell your offensive star to sit down for a pinch hitter, who was struggling at best. Then you wonder why she’s pissed and hits the portal. You tell Skyler Wallace who was a very solid player, she’s changing positions and you wonder why she goes to UF and plays HER position well enough to earn AA and Player of the Year honors. Something is rotten in that locker room.
When I judge a coach, I try to look at the entire body of work. Murphy was in a groove 10 to 15 years ago. He had the program rolling, and if he would have evolved towards offense at that point, we would still be a powerhouse but since that time we have stayed the course. We play small ball. We ride an elite pitcher, and we get a little bit worse each year as teams around the nation improve and adapt to the new game. I think the facts and statistics and records would support me saying that this team has regressed a little bit each year since that natty long ago. It’s simple. We either change the direction of the program with the coach we have or we change coaches.

While we talk about improving, it would seem Auburn went out and actually did it:

Did they though? They were assistant coaches at Tennessee. I mean I'm sure they will still beat Murph but it's not like they hired one of the Gasso's from Oklahoma

During the 2023 season, Tennessee’s offense averaged 6.87 runs per game — a mark that ranked first in SEC and third nationally.
Chris Malveaux also had a hand in the development of Kiki Milloy, who in 2023 broke Tennessee’s single-season home run record with 25 long balls, which were the most of any Division I player that season. Milloy went on to be named an NFCA first-team all-American that season.
In 2023, Chris Malveaux also served as an assistant with USA Softball for the Japan All-Star series.
Before joining Karen Weekly’s staff at Tennessee, Chris Malveaux was a member of the coaching staff at Missouri from 2019-21 — spending one season as an assistant and two seasons as associate head coach. There with the Tigers of Missouri, Chris Malveaux helped the offense improve each year as the Tigers hit .284 as a team in 2019, .290 in 2020 and then .320 in 2021.
Meanwhile, Kate Malveaux served as Missouri’s director of softball operations in 2020 and 2021.
Prior to jumping into the SEC, Chris Malveaux also made stops at Kansas, Louisiana-Lafayette, Bradley University and was McNeese State’s head coach from 2005-08. At McNeese State, Malveaux helped lead the Cowgirls to the Southland Conference Tournament title and the program’s second NCAA Tournament appearance in his first season at the helm.
If you’re Auburn, this is a good move. It’s not the splash that Meyers was for them but they have experience and have produced results along the way.
Credit to Cohen for knowing you aren’t going to win big with small ball.

Husband/wife co-coaches in college softball still baffles me.
