It took 11 innings to decide a winner Friday night between Alabama and Auburn, with Kenleigh Cahalan coming through with the clutch two-run single in the top of the 11th to break the scoreless tie and push the Crimson Tide to the 2-0 win to even the weekend series.

Alabama (33-15, 10-13 SEC) and Auburn (26-18-1, 8-15 SEC) were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel, with nobody moving past second base until the Tigers started to threaten in the bottom of the sixth. With runners at the corners and two out, the trailing runner was allowed to steal second to avoid the double steal and the batter was intentionally walked to load the bases. Kayla Beaver (16-8) entered to pitch in relief and struck out the batter on three pitches to get out of the jam and keep the game scoreless.

Kali Heivilin led off the top of the seventh with a walk and with a 2-0 count to Emma Broadfoot, game one winner Maddie Penta entered in relief for Auburn. Broadfoot drew a walk to put two on base and Riley Valentine ripped a single through the left side two batters later to load the bases with one out. A strikeout and lineout would squash the rally as the Crimson Tide failed to drive in a run. The Tigers couldn't walk it off in the bottom half as the two teams went to extras.

Alabama had two runners on base in the eighth, ninth and 10th innings but failed to break into the run column each time. Still 0-0 in the top of the 11th, Larissa Preuitt and Bailey Dowling were both in scoring position with two out and Cahalan pulled the second pitch of her at bat through the right side, driving in both runners on the single to give the Tide the first lead of the game at 2-0. Beaver shut the door in the bottom half, retiring the side in order to end the game.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"That was a great example of bend but don't break. The pitching and defense were awesome. I just felt like [Kayla] Beaver was in control and we just needed one lucky bounce or a key hit to break it open and Kenleigh Cahalan came through. I'm really proud of everybody because that was a tough game. A competitive nature came out of everyone today. They were challenged in the dugout early and I felt like both of our pitchers were really good. They were locked in and the defense was great."

The powers that be are desperately trying to award Bama a regional host site. A win today would be a big step in that direction.

In a tale as old as time…. The barn pitches their everyday 3rd baseman with 11 total innings pitched this season, who shuts out the Tide.

Oh well......This team managed to do what they did all season in conference play. They pulled out 1 win in each series to avoid the sweep. They won 1 conference series, by sweeping Ole Miss. I've heard that not all SEC teams make the SEC tournament, as qualifying is based upon win/loss percentages. Can they make the SEC tournament on their conference record?

If they don’t fire Murphy ( which they won’t ) , an ultimatum needs to be given that the hitting coach is canned and he goes after a top hitting ( overseen by Byrne ) coach or GTFO. Murph can get top pitchers it seems but sick of the wet noodle fricking bats

They’ll be in the conference tournament. It’s single elimination so a deep run is unlikely. Bracing for the outcry if they are selected to host regionals (which is a persistent rumor).

Yes, the announcers mentioned this possibility early in the game, stating the chance was greater with a win though.

Greg Byrne will fire him so let's get that straight because he prefers constantly improving and playing for championships.

Coach Patrick Murphy hasn't developed one player FULLY in recent YEARS (THAT'S PLURAL).

I'm going to name two girls who should be scaring teams when they play them and they are:

Bailey Dowling & Kenleigh Cahalan..these two alone should be 300 plus hitters easily but they haven't DEVELOPED under Coach Murphy matter of fact they will not.

There's a ton of talent on this team but Murphy can't DEVELOP.

Analogy: Murphy is Avery Johnson at getting talent but Murphy isn't Nate Oats at DEVELOPING it.

We need an OVERHAUL immediately.

I agree with you. Dont see Greg doing it unless there is a buyout type retirement thing.

Bama scored 5 runs in 25 innings. PItching was good enough to win. Fouts faced this same issue in her career. Not enough runs by her offense.

Back to the barn next week for the SEC Tournament
quote:

With the weekend series on the line, Alabama was shut out in Saturday's rubber match by Auburn, 3-0.

Alabama (33-16, 10-14 SEC) allowed Auburn (27-18-1, 9-15 SEC) to take the first lead of the game on a pair of RBI singles in the second and a fourth-inning solo home run from Amelia Lech later made it 3-0. The Crimson Tide didn't threaten until the top of the sixth, putting two on with one out but a strikeout and popup ended the potential rally to keep it a three-run game, which ultimately proved final.

in conference play the BA finished at 208. Only one player had a BA over 300 and she had one RBI. Reminder I am only talking about conference play.
The player with the highest RBI had 11. over half of our regular players had a BA under 200 including a few in the low 100's. Please tell me Greg B reads this stuff. We need a complete overall in the portal if all of the coaches return.
