Marlon was good at Bama but not great ( a la Minkah, Eddie J, Pat Surtain, Millner). He got torched by Mike Williams in the Natty Championships and was super grabby and getting many flags. I think he was a good player at Bama and pretty much got drafted so high because NFL teams saw his potential and all his physical gifts.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree. Marlon was great at Bama. First team all freshman, first team all-american, starting corner on a National Championship team(should have been 2 NC teams.) His only weakness was finding the ball on long passes, but he still didn't give up that many long pass plays in his two years as starter.

Marlon would have been more highly thought of if he had stayed another year ; he only played for two years.
But there is little doubt he was possibly the best athlete of all our CBs.
Pet peeve of mine is how we constantly ignore Kareem Jackson when talking of best CBs here.

Not sure why anyone thinks this is really a good comparison. Marlon plays a different type of game and when he left Bama as a redshirt Sophomore he had work to do on his technique down the field. Which he has done very well. Today he will light you up and get in your pocket.

Surtain's instincts and ball skills are elite. In zone coverages, he is quick to jump on routes. He's got great size at 6'2" and it's almost impossible to get deep on him. As well as he covers down the field his short-area quickness needs work. They talked about him at star some but it was hard to see. Slants create quick separation and Surtain can lose some contact. I think he's probably faster than quick.

Like Marlon, no one has it all figured out with their techniques and doesn't have room to improve in their 3rd year. But both guys have size and speed and you can't teach either.

5th member of that top ranked 19 recruiting class gone now. 4 of those players were highly ranked recruits on the defensive side.

LINK ]SEC to allow additional scheduling flexibility (247Sports)
quote:

The Southeastern Conference was ravaged by postponements related to COVID-19 this week, as four of its seven scheduled games won’t be played. That led the conference to add Dec. 19 as a playing week, but the league reportedly has added another scheduling quirk.

SEC Presidents will now allow teams with a game impacted on the same weekend to schedule a game with one another instead of idling, 247Sports’ Brandon Marcello confirmed. However, there are a couple of rules here.

Rematches are not permitted and the rule only applies to scheduled games. New games are not allowed to be added, meaning the game already has to be on the schedule. The decision would have to be made by Monday.

An example would be Alabama and Auburn this week. Both had games postponed due to outbreaks in their opponents’ program. Under the new rule, the two would have been able to decide this past Monday to play the Iron Bowl this weekend...

Note: AU and TN would've also been able to decide on Monday to play this weekend.

I'm honestly surprised the SEC didn't already have a clause that would allow 2 teams to go ahead and play one week if they both had cancellations. We could have had the Iron Bowl tomorrow. Wasted week...

It appears LSU waited a week to reveal their number of positive tests and contact tracing quarantines, making it impossible (even if the new rule had been in place) for UA and any of its scheduled opponents to decide by Monday to move their game to this weekend. I suspect that's why LSU delayed reporting their situation.

From the SEC:

The Southeastern Conference will utilize December 19 as a playing date for football games rescheduled during the 2020 season due to the impact of COVID-19 and has established parameters that allow for the adjustment of game opponents as late as five days prior to competition, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Friday.

As of Friday, all games planned for November 21 will be played as scheduled. All games currently scheduled to be played after November 21 are subject to weekly evaluation in order to reschedule games that have been postponed during the 2020 season.

“It has been a goal of the SEC to play a complete football schedule provided we maintain a healthy environment for student-athletes and everyone around our football programs,” said Sankey. “The added flexibility of a December 19 playing date for teams that do not qualify for the SEC Football Championship and the ability to adjust opponents on five-day notification provide a greater opportunity for our schools to play a full schedule of games in 2020.”

December 19 is the date of the SEC Football Championship Game to be played in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Teams that do not qualify for the championship game would be eligible to play games on December 19 that are rescheduled during the remaining weeks of the 2020 football season.

In addition, the Conference office may revise the weekly football schedule up to 9 pm ET/8 pm CT on the Monday prior to Saturday games for the purpose of maximizing the number of games available to be played. The games subject to rescheduling would only be those on a team’s original schedule and against opponents that a team has not yet played.

Marlon was amazing in 2015 as a first year starter. Honestly he got a lot of flak in 2016 because he gave up some plays. I think he was just not as locked in that year due to whatever circumstances. He gave up plays to Mike williams that he wouldn't give up currently if they played 100 times. Definitely a dominant player currently

I hope all of this flaunting authority comes back to bite LSU in the arse HARD! Wade gets caught on tape paying players, the football program is funneling money from kids with cancer to players families, and now they are thumbing their nose at the conference office to avoid the arse-kicking they asked for last November. Karma's a bitch, Tigers. Your day is coming.

I think many have selective memory with Marlon. I distinctly remember him constantly allowing YAC by trying to rip the ball out instead of just getting his man on the ground.

Marlon rarely gave up a play but when he did it was usually a big one
