According to practice reports many had him being the #3 guy already.

Ford is very good. Either way people will see that now.

But to the point, most were (including Saban's 3rd team RB remark) looking at Sanders as the #3 guy already and have heard many speculate as to him pushing B-Rob for #2 PT. Either way, pray that this heals and he has no ill effects going forward... is it too late to have these damn shoes tested and evaluated? Seems the Nike Deal wasnt that great anyway...

People can speculate all they want. There's zero evidence that Sanders even sniffed BRob's spot, and ample evidence, including Saban's own words, that Harris and BRob were and are our current starting 1-2 combo.
Why do fans ignore the fact that learning the playbook and doing it so many times that you can't do it wrong takes many months and sometimes years for some kids? Sanders had been here since May and saw a small handful of practices. No matter his talent, it's literally impossible to jump another very talented player who has years in the system. Heck, it's literally impossible based on pass protection responsibilities alone.
There's a lot more to playing RB than "take the football and run through that hole." A lot more.

Hey anyone know how the kid who played with Ford also a running back is doing? I think he went to Ohio State. He was more heralded than Ford in the ratings. Just curious how he is doing relative to Ford.

Snead’s departure from Columbus — as well as the beginning of his career with the Buckeyes — was certainly cloaked in uncertainty.
After playing in the first two games of the 2018 season, Snead did not see the field at all the remainder of the year — he didn’t even make the trip for the Week 3 game against TCU — with OSU declining to publicly address the running back’s status with the football program.
A four-star member of the Buckeyes’ 2018 recruiting class, Snead was rated as the No. 3 back in the country and the No. 17 player at any position in the talent-rich state of Florida. In those two appearances as a true freshman, he ran for 37 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Not looking for a pissing contest; however, there have been many "journalists" and "speculators" who say what they wish to take place. Cannot deny the talent of Sanders pre-break. And anytime the running game would not show as expected there would be a wailing and undeniable outcry by the hoards to put Sanders in. Especially if he got early game mop up duty and ran wild, albeit with the 2's and/or 3's
Yes it does take a while to learn the pass pro and just ask Derrick Henry, how that impacts a RB's ability to get on the field with the 1's early in the season.
In trying to contribute to this thread, I post from as many sources as possible, attempt to keep my opinions out until it is a post "just from me".
In this case, I personally agree, Sanders may well be one of those talents; however, until he learn pass pro, his pt will be during mop up with all Bama will do is run and an occasional PT with 1's for a strictly running play again.
This will give Ford and K-Rob opps to show out, I do hate it for Chad, another guy who keeps getting moved from WR to RB to WR to RB. May not give him enough reps to ever see meaningful time on the field on Saturdays.

Nice post, and no pissing contest desired on my side. It just gets old with so many people putting carts before horses, and I wasn't speaking specifically to you with my previous post. I have no doubt Sanders is talented, and could have been a fast riser. But Harris and Brob look to be solid in their spots, and I can't wait to see them.
Many people forget tho, that when players like Yeldon and Richardson were part of the starting 1-2 punch as freshman, they didn't arrive with a BRob in front of them at the #2 spot.

Hey thanks alot and interesting. There’s something for the star gazers. Looks like we got the better player. Ford was obviously underrated. Good pickup by the staff.

Should it have quality production from its young running backs, the loss of Trey Sanders (foot) for this season will not be as bad for Alabama football.
With Sanders not scrimmaging and Brian Robinson getting dinged up, a big opportunity was made available for Jerome Ford and Keilan Robinson to get reps.
Ford, a freshman, played in four games last season – prior to redshirting. The three-star and native Floridian was the lone prospect at the position the Crimson Tide signed in 2018.
Regarded as an “all-purpose” back, Ford served on scout-team in 2018 and provided Alabama’s first-team defense with great looks.
Listed at 5-foot-11 and 212-pounds, he added muscle in the offseason and has improved his power.
Ford came in as an elusive, shifty runner with good hands, but the added power between the tackles makes him a complete player for the Tide.
Robinson, a true freshman, comes in underrated from Washington, D.C.
A product of St. John’s High School, the four-star packs a punch – despite weighing in at 185 pounds on a 5-foot-9 frame. He guided the program to the 2017 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship as a junior and hails from the same school as current Tide teammate, Terrell Lewis. Robinson possesses a low center of gravity and has breakaway speed in space.
Nick Saban thought both played stepped up on last week, but he said Ford was “probably the team’s leading rusher.” As for Robinson, he said the second back of the 2019 class had some “explosive runs” and “played fast.”
“He probably gives us something that some of our other guys don’t have when it comes to just being quick, fast and elusive,” Saban said of Robinson.
According to sources, Ford got more work yet Robinson is nothing to sneeze at.
“People are sleeping on him, but he is really good,” sources said of Robinson. “He looks really quick and that guy can get downfield.”
The idea would be for either Ford or Robinson or both to give the Tide with the production it was expecting from Sanders. Both have accepted the challenge and look to continue growing.

Let that headline sink in.
Has Alabama woes in the kicking game officially been solved?
Head coach Nick Saban was in a chipper mood when it came to addressing the media on that aspect of the game, following the first scrimmage of fall practice.
In a battle between Joseph Bulovas and Will Reichard, Saban was pleased with both guys yet he singled-out the latter.
Reichard, a three-star from Hoover, Ala., was the nation’s top-rated kicking prospect – according to the Kohl’s Kicking site. He nailed 27 of 31 field goals during his high school tenure and made all 109 of his extra point tries.
Reichard boldly declared to Justin Smith, recruiting/scouting analyst for Touchdown Alabama Magazine, that he is the one to “fix all the kicking issues” for the Crimson Tide.
He proved accurate of this statement in the spring game back in April, as he nailed a 43-yard field goal and made all of his PAT’s to the joy of fans.
Since then, the hot shot kicker has found ways to get work in.
His confidence has been high all summer and Saban liked what he saw from the freshman on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
He said Reichard did “really well on field goals” and that it was “encouraging” to see.
Per sources, Reichard made all four of his kicks – including a 50- yarder.
“He was the biggest highlight of the scrimmage,” sources said of Reichard.
“Everything he kicked went through and the kick he made from 50 yards would have probably been good from 60-plus. Reichard was one of three players that handled business today.”
The battle is not over between he and Bulovas, but this is a great start for Reichard.
Should he continue this consistency in the following exhibition, which is next Saturday, he can lock up the job as the starting kicker.

Looks like the episode from In My Own Words entitled “Mac Jones heating up Bama’s fall camp” was not a joke.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban is giving the redshirt sophomore a chance to run the offense and the native Floridian is doing business.
As a third-year player, Jones understands the system and Saban made it known at SEC Media Days that he’s “matured” at the quarterback position.
In pushing Tua Tagovailoa and trying to show a fan base that’s more than capable, Jones impressed his coach on Saturday at the Crimson Tide’s first scrimmage. After the two-hour exhibition, Saban took to the podium at Bryant-Denny Stadium to compliment his QB.
“Mac played well today,” Saban said of Jones.
“He had a really good day today. He had a high completion percentage, threw for some big plays, really did a good job and some of it was against the first defense. I thought he did a really good job of trying to lead the team when he was in there. He did a really good job.”
