Essentially our base defense now is nickel, so I could see us adapting to the 3-3-5 quite well. I can guarantee saban didnt just hire strong to wash his Benz and grab the morning coffee though. Clemson was running the 3-3-5 against LSU and it was giving them fits until LSU finally adjusted. It also didnt help when the player that was making every play on the defense for clemson got ejected for targeting. Up until that ejection, clemson was giving LSU all they could handle and then some

Haven't liked the tone/creativeness of our defense since Pruitt left

I agree! Pruitt is my favorite DC. I hope he has success while UT and then comes home after Saban decides to hang up the headset.

Big question. Can Strong travel to recruit players? Or, if not, can he meet recruits on campus or call them?

He can contact recruits over the phone and help recruit while they are on campus, is what I've read

I sort of get the sense that he's the next DC in waiting.

No. He's got two more years owed to him by the USF Foundation. He wants to be a head coach again.

Karl Scott is the DC in waiting. There is a reason he turned down a DC job at Baylor after last season.

Scott turned down a DB Coach/Co-DC offer from Baylor.

Now that I just went to try to find the post stating that he could recruit on campus and contact recruits over the phone, it's no where to be found. So it might not be accurate. Surge do you have any insight on this?

Thanks for the correction. There's a reason he turned down a Co-DC offer of a team that only gave up 19 ppg in the Big 12 to remain a position coach at Bama.

I'm probably way off on this, but I thought he could have contact with recruits on campus, but no phone contact.

That would make sense and also explain why they nuked it

Off-field staff may recruit via phone/text, but only in-person during recruits' visits to campus. Off-field staff cannot recruit in-person off campus. Only the 10 on-field assistant coaches and HC are allowed to do that. Permission can be obtained for an off-field staffer to do it on an interim basis in place of an on-field coach who departs or otherwise is unable to perform off-campus in-person recruiting.

Strong may or may not want to be a head coach again. He’s almost 60 years old and has been fired from his last two HC gigs. Some guys are just better coordinators and there’s no shame in that. I could easily see him being our next DC. We shall see.

LINK ]Alabama's 2020 roster doesn't include Markail Benton (rolltidewire)

UPDATE: Markail Benton is now listed on the Alabama roster once again. His absence was, more than likely, due to an error.
