'I hurt everybody': Mike Tyson tells Alabama football players why they need to manage anger Scott Gleeson, USA TODAY Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson spoke to the Alabama football team on Thursday night, urging players to love themselves and manage their anger in a healthy way.
"It was all an illusion," Tyson told the team, via ESPN. "I had no reason to show love to anybody. The more I hurt people, the more people loved me. The more I knocked guys out, the more I broke their ribs, broke their eye sockets, the more people loved me. So what was I to think? I hurt everybody. I hurt women. I hurt my friends. I hurt strangers. I had no concept of myself. I didn't know who I was. I was this boxer who hurt people. I always had to be 'Iron Mike.'
"You gotta love yourself before you can love one another and your teammates. There was a time I didn't love myself."
Tyson was open about his own issues that derailed his career and livelihood. The 53-year-old served three years of a six-year federal jail sentence after being convicted of rape in 1992, and he returned to the ring in 1995.
"I became a drug addict and lost all my money. Just more pain. I got in a situation where I was bankrupt. I lost $400 million. Can you imagine that (expletive)?" Tyson said.
Alabama coach Nick Saban has annually brought in guest speakers during preseason camp to talk with his team, and they typically have an emotional and meaningful story to share.
"We're all accountable," Tyson said. "But if we can't be responsible for ourselves, how can we be responsible for one another? That's what this world is about, being responsible. It took me forever to learn that."

someone connected to the Tide as an "insider" just posted something on twitter about a Rumor and if true could be devastating. Are their any long term injuries we have not heard about or a major defection? I am aware of the DL and the RB but they don't seem to be a season ending type injury.

I heard that someone read about an insider that met a guy that posted the same thing on his Snapchat Story

The only rumor going around is about Trey Sanders. A lot of speculation that he broke his foot. No one has confirmed anything tho. We’ll probably find out from Saban today

a broken bone in the foot could heal quicker then a high ankle sprain right?

He'd likely miss half the season and then be out of shape. Couldn't see him being a factor until at least November at the earliest if that's true. Really a bummer if true!

We are deep at RB. IF he only plays in 4 games he could get a RS.

Much rather this injury happen at RB than at about 8 other positions. Sucks, but not nearly as big a deal as some other spots.
And, who knows, depending on the injury and the severity maybe hes able to come back mid-season and be totally fresh for the back end of the schedule.

Only 4 scholarship RB now, looks like Townsend will move back to RB now.

Really sucks. I can’t remember a time where we have had so many broken foot issues as we have the last 3 years. Something is out of balance. I’m not sure it it’s Nike cleats or the way we are taping but this needs further exploration.

On a side note, what a great opportunity for Ford and KRob to make a move for that 3rd back.

Alabama freshman running back LINK ]Trey Sanders will reportedly miss the 2019 season with an injury.
Sanders, a former 5-star, suffered a significant foot injury on the final play of the Crimson Tide’s preseason practice Thursday night and is expected to miss the entire season, according to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz. Sanders was not on the field during the two media viewing periods of practice Friday.
Prior to the injury, Sanders had been fourth in the running back line behind Najee Harris, Brian Robinson and Jerome Ford. During last week’s open practice, he split third-team reps with Ford.
Known for saying he will win the Heisman Trophy as a true freshman, Sanders arrived at UA with a lot of expectations surrounding him. After all, he was the No. 6 overall recruit during the 2019 cycle and the No. 1 running back, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
“Trey Sanders is doing really, really well in camp,” said Nick Saban during a post-practice press conference on Wednesday. “His work ethic is really good. He’s learning every day. His attention to detail seems to be pretty good. He’s got some ability that may be able to contribute to the team.”
Also missing from Friday’s practice were defensive linemen LaBryan Ray (ankle) and DJ Dale (knee) and cornerbacks Nigel Knott and Brandon Turnage. Turnage was spotted inside the team facility prior to Friday’s camp practice and was wearing a black, contact jersey and a walking boot.
Alabama will hold its first of two preseason scrimmages this afternoon at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

frick. Getting the broken foot counter started early this year, I see.

Seriously. Can’t believe Saban hasn’t launched an investigation into all the foot injuries. This isn’t happening with all teams so it’s something we are doing or just terrible luck.
