what makes you think that? The attention Hurts is getting is because of the story line, and not because he would be the 3rd OU qb. If anything, I think that will be a negative factor.

Incorrect as that only includes his time at UA. I have not looked at his record at LSU vs AU.

While at LSU he was 2-3 vs AU including all 3 losses at AU.

LINK ]Alabama at Texas A&M: Week 7 kickoff time, TV channel announced By Charlie Potter
No. 1-ranked Alabama’s Week 7 road game against No. 25 Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 12, will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT and will air on CBS, the Southeastern Conference announced Monday. Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and Jamie Erdahl will call the contest from College Station, Texas.

This is the third time the Crimson Tide will play a 2:30 p.m. game on CBS. It only has two more opportunities to do that the rest of the regular season. It will also be UA's sixth straight day game.

Alabama and Texas A&M will meet for the 12th time next weekend in a series that dates back to the 1942 season. The Crimson Tide leads the all-time series against the Aggies, 9-2, including a 4-0 record in College Station. Alabama won last year’s meeting, 45-23, at Bryant-Denny Stadium and has a 6-1 record against Texas A&M since the Aggies joined the Southeastern Conference in 2012.

The Aggies have posted a 3-2 (1-1 SEC) record entering its first of two bye weeks, recently defeating Arkansas by a score of 31-27 this past weekend. Texas A&M has also beaten Texas State (41-7) and Lamar (62-3) but lost games against No. 2 Clemson (24-10) and No. 7 Auburn (28-20).

The Aggies ended their 2018 season with a 9-4 (5-3 SEC) record and returned 11 starters (6 offense, 5 defense) from last year’s team. After winning nine games for the first time since 2013, Texas A&M is not off to a great start to the season, ranking ninth in the conference in total offense (426.2 yards per game) and fourth in total defense (299.8) through the first five weeks of the regular season.

This week, the Crimson Tide and Aggies are both on byes. Contact Charlie Potter by 247Sports' personal messaging or on Twitter (@Charlie_Potter).

DeVonta Smith (Photo: Stuart McNair, 247Sports)
LINK ]No Surprise That DeVonta Smith Gets SEC Honor By Kirk McNair
quote:

In the weekly game played by Alabama opponents — Pick Your Poison — the choice last Saturday was DeVonta Smith.

The defense had nothing to do with it, you say? Wrong. As Alabama Coach Nick Saban pointed out following the Crimson Tide’s 59-31 victory over Ole Miss, Bama passes go to the man most open as dictated by the defense.

They could have chosen poisons like Jerry Jeudy or Henry Ruggs III, but Mississippi selected Smith to help beat them.

It looked like the Rebels didn’t know about Smith. A hero two seasons ago when he caught the overtime pass from Tua Tagovailoa to beat Georgia in the national championship game, Smitty was again on the lips of Bama followers after Saturday’s exhibition.

The Southeastern Conference also took notice as Smith was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

Smith was on the receiving end of a career-best 11 Tagovailoa passes, which he turned into Alabama single-game receiving records of 274 yards and 5 touchdowns. His 24.9 yards-per-catch average was second best in Crimson Tide history by a wide receiver with at least eight catches.

His five touchdowns tied the SEC single-game record while his 274 yards ranked sixth in league annals.

Smith became just the sixth player in SEC history to score at least two touchdowns and go over 200 yards in a game, which he accomplished in the first half alone.

He scored on receptions of 74 yards (on the fourth play of the game), 25, 23, 33, and 27 yards.

Eight of his receptions went for first downs.

Others cited by the SEC office this week are:

Defensive Player of the Week end D.J. Wonnum of South Carolina, Special Teams POW punter Joseph Charlton of South Carolina, Offensive Lineman Mike Horton of Auburn, Defensive Lineman Jeremiah Moon of Florida, and Freshman quarterback Bo Nix of Auburn.

Alabama has a bye week and returns to action against Texas A&M in College Station on October 12.

Until Will gets over the Hip flexor injury... there will be no marked improvement...jmho..

Did give DeLong credit for dropping both punts inside the 20 with no return... (now they only went 30 yards; but both were effective)

LINK ]Alabama Football: Where the Tide stands statistically after five games by Ronald Evans
quote:

Now that Alabama football leads the national polls , let’s see how he Crimson Tide stands in the most important FBS and SEC statistics.

After Alabama football and most teams have played five games, national statistics are beginning to have enough data to merit attention. Differences in schedule difficulty affect statistical results after so few games. Those differences will moderate but not disappear in the latter half of the season.

Without directly comparing the Alabama football schedule to other top SEC teams, it is fair to say the Crimson Tide schedule is so far not the toughest. Alabama football stats after playing Duke, New Mexico State, South Carolina, Southern Miss and Ole Miss should be strong. The five teams are a combined 10-14 on the season with the Duke Blue Devils leading the way at 3-1. None of the five teams are in the top 50 of the FBS in Total Offense.

Alabama Football Offensive Superlatives

The Crimson Tide, led by Tua Tagovailoa and the best wide receivers in college football has been outstanding in passing offense. Credit should also be given to the schemes and play-calling of Steve Sarkisian.

First Downs – No. 5 nationally and No. 1 in the SEC
Passing Offense – No. 3 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC; LSU leads the SEC
Passing Yards-Per-Completion – No. 14 nationally and No. 2 SEC; LSU leads SEC
Passing Efficiency – No. 2 nationally and No.1 in the SEC
Total Offense – No. 4 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC; LSU leads the SEC
Scoring Offense – No. 4 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC; LSU leads the nation

Other Good Alabama Football Stats

Scoring Defense – No. 13 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC; Florida leads the SEC
Passing Yards Allowed – No. 29 nationally and No. 3 in the SEC; Missouri leads the SEC
Sacks Allowed – No. 21 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC; Georgia leads the SEC
Turnover Margin – No. 4 nationally and No. 1 in the SEC
Punt Return Defense – No. 16 nationally and No. 3 in the SEC; Florida leads the SEC
Kickoff Return Defense – No.11 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC; Tennessee leads the SEC

The not so good Alabama football stats

Total Defense – No. 38 nationally and No. 7 in the SEC; Missouri leads the SEC
Rushing Defense – No. 49 nationally and No. 8 in the SEC; Georgia leads the SEC
Rushing Offense – No. 57 nationally and No. 7 in the SEC; Georgia leads the SEC
Fewest Penalties – No. 95 nationally and No. 12 in the SEC; Tennessee leads the SEC
Fewest Penalty Yards – No. 102 nationally and No. 14 in the SEC; Tennessee leads the SEC
Net Punting – No. 113 nationally and No. 14 in the SEC; Kentucky leads the SEC
First Downs Defense – No. 82 nationally and No. 8 in the SEC; Missouri leads the SEC

A more complete look at Alabama football stats can be found here.

‘Not so good’ is a kind description for some stats in the last group listed above. The penalties and punting stats are terrible. And an Alabama football rushing defense eighth in the SEC is stunningly weak.

Alabama OL Landon Dickerson destroys Ole Miss defender, flexes on him SDS Staff

Alabama offensive lineman Landon Dickerson has proven to be a key addition to the Crimson Tide’s offense.

Dickerson, the transfer from Florida State, is playing a key role for the Tide through five weeks. He’s already impressed in multiple games through the first half of the season, and Saturday was no exception.

SEC Network’s Cole Cubelic shared a highlight clip of Dickerson destroying an Ole Miss defender, and then, he was caught literally flexing on him while the defender was on the ground.

Cole Cubelic @colecubelic
Flex on em’ Landon Dickerson...#PassProIsNotPassive

This is the type of attitude everyone loves to see out of an offensive lineman.

Alabama’s offense scored 59 points and rolled up 573 total yards of total offense. Tua Tagovailoa broke a school record with six passing touchdowns, while receiver DeVonta Smith reeled in a school record five touchdown receptions.

Dickerson is a big reason why Alabama’s offense is so potent so far, and he was one of the nation’s top additions to any team in 2019.

All this talk of Bama and day games aside, why would CBS not take LSU-UF for their game of the week? Two potentially top 10 teams? It makes no sense.

CBS used their one night game option on UGA vs ND. The SEC negotiated with CBS to get LSU the option to play it's home games at night.

Eyes on the screen. Alabama is most always a heavy ratings draw even if people watch to see if they might lose. TX A&M big state, love their football, lots of eyes.

CBS needs the ratings to pay for the contract and make money.

I prefer to believe that the people who make the final call on which game to pick up actually hate Alabama and want to maximize fan suffering by exposing us to Gary Danielson half a dozen times every fricking season.

Yeah I don’t get the obsession with we can’t beat AU when they are good. We can. They have a good front 7 and an average secondary. You just saw what Tua and Co did to an average secondary. It will take an absolute elite secondary to slow him down or him getting sacked in 1.5 seconds.

He just really sucks at being unbiased. Especially in our games. He will go back and forth between hyping the shite out of our players and opining that if not for [insert play/flag/non-flag from 2 quarters ago that went Alabama's way] this 55-17 score may be totally different, while conveniently ignoring all the plays that didn't go our way. His desire for a compelling story always overrides his objectivity.
