Duke looks like the second best team in the ACC so far, which is just sad. Duke is a decent team, but Clemson will beat them as badly as we did.

LINK ]Recap: No. 2-ranked Alabama defeats Ole Miss in SEC home opener By Charlie Potter
quote:

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- No. 2 Alabama produced 500-plus yards of offense for the fifth week in a row and advanced to 5-0 (2-0 SEC) on the season with a 59-31 win over Ole Miss on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide amassed 573 yards of total offense, while the Rebels were able to gain 476.

Alabama scored first with what proved to be a trend Saturday afternoon. Junior quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hit junior wide receiver DeVonta Smith for a 74-yard touchdown. The duo would go on to do that four more times before the final whistle. But not before Ole Miss took an early lead.

Thanks to a muffed punt by Jaylen Waddle, the Rebels took over at Alabama’s 30-yard line. Ole Miss freshman quarterback John Rhys Plumlee scored by way of a 1-yard rushing touchdown in his first start. Behind a 33-yard field goal, the Rebels took a 10-7 lead at the 2:36 mark of the first quarter. It the Crimson Tide’s first time trailing after the first quarter since the 2017 Iron Bowl.

The lead wouldn’t last long, however, as Alabama would score 38 unanswered points. The first score was a 7-yard rushing touchdown by Tagovailoa. The Tide took a 17-10 lead with a 36-yard field goal from redshirt sophomore placekicker Joseph Bulovas. From that point on, it was the Tagovailoa-to-Smith show, as the duo connected on four straight scores (25, 23, 33, and 27 yards).

Smith established single-game school records with 248 receiving yards and five receiving scores.

Ole Miss broke the scoring streak when Plumlee threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to fellow true freshman Jerrion Ealy, a running back. That made it a 45-17 game in favor of Alabama. But the Tide would find the end zone again, this time on special teams. Sophomore linebacker Ale Kaho blocked a Rebel punt and, after a teammate missed the recovery, fell on it in the end zone.

Plumlee scored his third touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter with a 26-yard pass to freshman wide receiver Jonathan Mingo, making it a 52-24 game. Plumlee accounted for 250 yards of total offense (141 passing, 109 rushing) in what was the second game of his career.

Tagovailoa would score one more time but didn’t hit Smith for the score. This time, the junior threw to redshirt junior tight end Miller Forristall for a 19-yard touchdown, which gave Tagovailoa six passing touchdowns -- and seven total scores -- for a new single-game program record. His final stat line was 418 passing yards on 26-of-36 passing and one rushing yard on four carries.

Senior safety Jared Mayden picked off Plumlee and returned it 36 yards to midfield that would have sealed the final score at Bryant-Denny Stadium, but Ole Miss scores with five seconds remaining with its backups.

Alabama will be on its first of two bye weeks next week before it travels to Texas A&M on Oct. 12.

Nick Saban provides update on Henry Ruggs By Matt Zenitz | mzenitz@al.com
quote:

The injury that Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs sustained against Ole Miss on Saturday isn’t any sort of significant issue.

Ruggs has a hip pointer injury, according to head coach Nick Saban.

“He’ll probably be sore for a few days,” Saban said, “but we don’t think it’s an issue long-term.”

Ruggs suffered the injury during the first half. He ended up returning to play, but coaches later pulled him from the game.

The junior finished with one catch for 11 yards.

LINK ]Saban provides injury updates on Henry Ruggs III, Terrell Lewis By Charlie Potter
quote:

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama did not sustain any serious injuries in its win over Ole Miss.

Wide receiver Henry Ruggs III and defensive back Shyheim Carter, a pair of veteran starters, both exited the game but were able to return to the field after visits to the sideline medical tent.

Although Ruggs rejoined the offense and even covered kickoffs, the coaches elected to sit him because the junior was dealing with a “hip pointer” injury, Nick Saban revealed after the game.

“He did come back in the game,” Saban said. “We decided not to play him anymore in the game. He’ll probably be sore for a few days, but we don’t think it’s an issue long-term.”

Ruggs recorded 11 yards on one reception. Carter registered six tackles and 0.5 tackle for loss.

Two players were held out of the game completely in placekicker Will Reichard and linebacker Markail Benton. Reichard is nursing a hip flexor injury that will require the freshman to rest. Both Reichard and Benton watched the game in street clothes from the sideline. The same goes for linebacker Dylan Moses, who was at his first game, I believe, since suffering a knee injury.

Defensive lineman DJ Dale (knee) started the Ole Miss game at nose guard, and linebacker Terrell Lewis (knee) played, recording the only sack of the day for the Crimson Tide defense. He also broke up a pass. Dale registered two tackles and 0.5 tackle for loss in the 59-13 victory.

Alabama’s defense is still without Moses and fellow linebacker Joshua McMillon (knee) and defensive lineman LaBryan Ray (foot). Another game of 80-plus plays (88) led the coach to share his concerns over what kind of ramifications that can have on his team if that continues.

“If we play 20 more plays of defense every game that we play, the cumulative effect of that is times 12, so that’s a lot of plays and that’s a lot of wear and tear on some players,” Saban said. “We’ve already lost some players, and hopefully we’ll get a few of those guys back maybe sometime later on.

“Terrell was able to play a little bit today, which we were happy about that. But it’s always going to be a little bit day-to-day with how he can go about what he has to do.”

Alabama will be on its first of two bye weeks next week before it travels to Texas A&M on Oct. 12.

Anyone concerned? Alabama has allowed a total of 935-yards of offense and 54 points in the 1st 2 SEC games...
USCe 2-3 Scoring a total of 153 pts allowing 122 pts
(Bama score 47-23) USCe Rushing (28 for 143 net) Total yds 459
OleMiss 2-3 Scoring a total of 132 pts allowing 148 pts
(Bama score 59-31) Ole Miss against Bama - Rushing (57 for 279 net) Total yds 476

Any of the teams on the schedule have dynamic rushing games? or Running QB's? (Plumlee threw for 141 and ran for 109)
