Was anyone else on here one of the 10 students that still went to the games at the end of the Gottfried era, or the Mark's Sadness era?

Jeff Goodman has us at 18 and the top ranked team in the SEC.

Not to be a Debbie downer but.........he had us 11th last year in one of these.

But still, somebody needs to go troll the rant with this. I vote George because he can do it in a subtle way

Goodman loves Bama year after year more than Bama fans.

Yeah he always seems to be way high on us for some reason. If Petty comes back though, this team should definitely be preseason top 20-25. Tops in the SEC I’m not sure about

That's patently absurd and I can think is that Goodman is just trolling other SEC schools.

That won't be the only preseason top 25 we will be in if Petty comes back.

What did Mark Gottfried do to you? Were you dating the golf course coed?

Goodman doesnt figure in the curse. Half the top 7 or 8 players will probably be hurt.

Wimp was the one who should have been given a longer leash.
Ala fans were getting upset with Wimp because he couldn't get us past the sweet 16. But, Finebum got him fired.
Mark was being judged based on what Wimp had accomplished. He couldnt match Wimp, and then he couldnt keep his pants zipped up. The ncaa has the goods on Mark, so I wouldnt lose any sleep over what he has accomplished--on or off the court.

I'm not gonna diss his entire era but one thing he did to me was produced bad basketball for my last 2 years of college, which is the time period being discussed.

Not just bad results, but "bad basketball". Lazy, poor effort, teams quit when they got down. It was just an awful product to consume.

I really think Gottfried had a problem with Bama hiring Saban.

Our expectations were maybe too high if we were dissatisfied with missing the tourney two years in a row. We have made the tourney 2 out of the last 12 years since then. I think most of us would be ecstatic if Oats can make the tourney 5 out of the next 7 years.

I'm not getting into the whole Gottfried discussion again though.

Yeah we for sure weren't good those last two years, I don't think anyone would argue that. My question is if we had kept him 5 more years could he have rebounded and had better results than what we ended up having, getting to one NCAAT in the next 5 years and losing in the first round.

It’s not just missing the tournament. That’s what you aren’t getting. The entire direction of the program was going down hill. Your arguments are based on things you are looking up and not on the actual knowledge of being old enough to process the situation at the time

Yes, but it was obvious the trend lines were going straight down, not just an unfortunate dip due to injuries or a lull. The play was bad, the talent was bad and the recruiting was bad. There was absolutely nothing that pointed to things getting better.

Think Les Miles at LSU or Mark Richt at UGA. The end was the end. They weren't going through a down period before they got back to early/mid 2000s. They were done.
