MAJOR shakeup for college baseball starting next season. Division 1 baseball will now have 34 scholarships available (up from 11.7). I’d expect all SEC schools to use all of them (colleges can make individual decisions on whether they want to use them all). Now, the difficult part - rosters are capped at 34. Which essentially eliminates walk ons. Vaughn has got a job ahead of him because my current count with returners is 49, which means 15 - almost one third - of those guys won’t be here next spring!!

Does this mean no more complaining about other schools having Hope Scholarships?

I hope it does.

Yes, this will eliminate that conversation, which I realize may have been annoying but it was valid. At this point the only differentiators in terms of bringing in talent will be NIL. I’d expect this to level the playing field pretty well.

Hmmmm. In June, DCL posted that he was looking for a home. Nothing else I can find on line. I’m guessing there’s a story out there somewhere:

Question for OP:

Leis, Rubin and Picot do not have destinations beside their names. Does that mean that they decided to stay in TTown?

I just haven’t seen where any of those three have landed. In theory they could stay if the coaches approve - but the roster is already “over staffed” with close to 50 players returning, signed or transferring in for next year - which likely means cuts of about 5 or 6 players after fall ball if all wind up enrolling. And in 2026, plans are for 34 scholarship baseball players and no walk-ons, so that’s another significant reduction (albeit better financially for the 34 on the team). All that to say, I would be surprised if any of those three returned. I’m continuing to watch to see where they wind up - if anyone finds updates please pass then along.

Parker Picot has Michigan State on one of his social media pages. I don’t see him listed on the MSU athletic department roster but I’ll go with it until/unless something else comes to light.

Do they normally do a call out for Walk-Ons in today’s world of Transfer portal?

I guess with one more year to go before the House settlement implementation, they are putting the opportunity out there. Not sure where they would put them given the current roster size.
