I saw the shirtless guy stumbling down the steps toward the dugout and thought he looked a little off.

Alabama baseball scored three runs in the 10th inning to come away with a 9-7 win over UAB on Tuesday evening at Regions Field. The 15th-ranked Crimson Tide is now 9-0 on the year.

UAB gained a 4-0 advantage after two innings of play, plating one in the first and three in the second. Both teams stayed scoreless until the fifth when a two-run homer from Bryce Eblin cut the lead in half. Two innings later, TJ McCants tied things up with a two-run shot of his own. The Tide added two more in the eighth, but one Blazer run in the home half followed by a second tally in the ninth sent the game to extras.

The Crimson Tide wasted no time in extras, scoring three runs in the top of the 10th. Singles from Eblin and Justin Lebron set the stage for Gage Miller, who picked up his third hit of the night with a double to right, scoring Eblin and putting a pair in scoring position. One out later, Ian Petrutz singled through the left side to add another run and move men to the corners. Following a second out, a wild pitch brought in a final tally for the three-run advantage. UAB would get one run back in the bottom of the 10th, but a strikeout looking ended things in favor of the Crimson Tide, 9-7.

Alabama's offense was spread across the lineup with seven of the nine starters recording at least one hit. Miller, Mason Swinney, Eblin and Lebron all posted three-hit nights to lead the bats. Miller was joined by McCants and Eblin with each player contributing a team-high two RBI apiece.

Matthew Heiberger (1-0) notched the win, allowing one run on one hit and a walk with three strikeouts over the final 1.2 frames. The Crimson Tide was able to keep things close thanks to an impressive effort from Tyler Fay. The redshirt freshman was first out of the bullpen and contributed 3.2 scoreless frames with two strikeouts to keep UA within striking distance.

From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"We swung the bats all night. We were slamming some baseballs, sometimes it seemed like they were either right at somebody, the wind killed it or they caught it right at the wall – and that's baseball, sometimes things like that are going to happen. The good thing was that we kept going, we didn't panic. It was a little bit of an emotional and chippy game, and I thought there were times that we got a little bit outside of ourselves, but we were able to bring that emotion back in and get a tough, gritty win."

Alabama Relief Pitcher Tyler Fay Steels Crimson Tide On Way to Regions Field Win (SI)

One of the biggest contributors to Alabama's first win at Regions Field since 2021 was relief pitcher Tyler Fay.

Sooo about last night.

I wonder if the druggie that tried to get in our dugout and fight AD affected his performance there in the bottom of the 9th.

Hell of a job by Heiberger for holding them to only one run there.

That was a heck of a game.

I was listening to Roger Hoover who said at various points in the game that drama was happening but he couldn’t see or tell what it was. Interesting that the first base coach (who looks like a kid) got into it with the Bama athletic trainer and the strength & conditioning coach.

Apparently he got into it with Riley Quick for some reason. Lots of jawing (mostly from UAB) last night.

Yeah - it sucks but they are the ones who are putting on the tournament. To (potentially) make matters worse, I read comments that it is a separate subscription from the D1 website. Varsity app for me tonight. I’m guessing Roger Hoover on the call.

Winning 5-0 in the Top of the 1st.

ETA: We are literally the only SEC team playing tonight without the game being aired on the ESPN app. What the frick?

ETAA: We can't even view live stats through the SEC website.

Blame d1baseball. Put together a nice tournament but then blackout the TV coverage.
