Who is going to develop our qb's? This is kind of disheartening at this point.

I'll be patient. That's all I've got. But Saban is rarely wrong. But he's quick to right a wrong.

Didn't they just hire Werner the former Ole Miss OC?

Werner will help a ton but he won't be able to help the quarterback since he can't be on the field.

Rumored to be a possibility, but I've not seen anything saying it's definite.

Maybe he can enroll and be a highly paid GA until the 10th coach is approved.

I figure Saban probably has a plan.

At this point with it sounding more like the 10th coach will be approved my guess would be Werner will be hired as a QB coach, Daboll will coach WRs and Locksley will coach TEs.

Until then, Daboll can probably deal with QBs. He's done it in the NFL for years.

Leaves a lot to be desired on paper, but I guess Saban sees something we don't. Give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm fine with Werner coaching QB's, he has a very solid history of that. Fine with Daboll coaching WRs (and TEs would be nice, honestly), he is praised universally in the NFL for it. No idea about Locksley coaching TEs.

Obviously the wild card is Daboll calling plays.

Don't forget Joe Pannunzio. Reportedly, he'll coach TE & ST. He has a lot of experience at it. Daboll obviously has great TE coaching acumen that Joe should be able to learn quickly and easily.

I guess Daboll & Locksley will coach QBs & WRs. Daboll was NE's WR Coach (2002-06) and NY Jets QB Coach (2007-08). I suppose he coached QBs some too during his OC stints. Locksley was OC/QB Coach at Illinois (2006-08) and Maryland (2012-15). Locksley has also coached WRs, and every other position during his career.

Until the 10th coach is approved, it seems to me that Werner could aid the on-field QB coach, provided he doesn't directly interact on-field with the players. Hopefully it's approved in April. I think there's still a decent chance it will be.

One way to enable having Werner as an on-field QB coach right away for spring practice -- give Pannunzio an admin position temporarily until the 10th coach is approved. It seems like a pretty sensible option to me. It could be what Saban has in mind.

Werner's salary at OM was $675k. I couldn't find any info about buyout income he may be getting. But if he is indeed a great QB whisperer, he may be worth a big salary. And since Daboll may not stay at Bama very long, Werner and Locksley could be potential Co-OC successors to Daboll.

Right, not sure how I forgot that.

Yeah, because he'll be the one true freshman QB that's fully developed right out of high school...all true freshman QBs will have to be developed, even the ultimately successful ones...Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, AJ McCarron, just to name a few, all had to be developed...

Pannunzio has coached TEs most of his long career.

Yeah, I know. But he's been in football operations jobs for six years now. I think it's safe to assume he and Daboll can learn things from each other.

Brian Daboll Named Alabama Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach | RollTide.com

The hiring of Punnunzio to coach the tight ends and specials teams allows co-offensive coordinator Michael Locksley to handle the wide receivers, Burton Burns to turn his focus once again to only the Tide running backs and Brent Key will coach all aspects of the offensive line...

I'm still hoping Dan Werner will also be hired.

Yeah -- at the Jets, Browns, Dolphins & Chiefs.

But there's a more burning question...

What beard should Coach Daboll sport for his new Bama OC gig?

There are so many styles for him to choose from. Thoughts?
