In no real world would Johnson be considered a credible witness.

The jury didn’t really need his testimony at all in this case. The security video and the defendant’s own words on the stand were plenty enough to get a conviction.

Tell me Davis didn’t actually say this.

No wonder the jurors only took an hour.

Yep, he said it on the stand when he testified his own defense.

Tuscaloosa news story that should’ve been titled how to convict yourself of capital murder

At the end of the day multiple lives destroyed because of pride.

It doesn’t matter what the guy in the Jeep was doing or what his intentions might have been, it’s about what Davis did in that moment.

Disagree but…
quote:

He hid and then approached the Jeep (shown in the security video, not in dispute) to “get him before he got us” (the defendant’s own testimony).

That makes Davis the initial aggressor at the time of the fatal encounter, takes stand your ground and self defense off the table, and earns him a capital murder conviction.

We can’t just ignore that Davis walked right up to the driver’s side and unloaded into the Jeep. This after Davis had already walked by the Jeep without issue. To me both Davis and Johnson were being thugs under the pretext of self-defense and concern for others

That being said, I fully acknowledge how fricked up it is that Johnson is probably the one in jail right now if Johnson’s shots killed a bystander and Davis had missed

And this right here describes the whole case perfectly.

Two thugs were doing thug things. A young girl is dead and a young man who had a clear path to lifetime success will instead spend his best years in prison because they chose to associate with thugs.

Choices have consequences.

seems like she was out doing thug things. She knew her boyfriend was a drug dealer, and she handed him a gun

I hate to see this, I've dedicated my life to helping and trying to save others. Frustrating when you can't reach people.

I don't think he'd even have needed to hit someone. If Davis had simply missed all targets, only Johnson would have gone to jail.

Remember, Johnson successfully shot Davis multiple times.

As did Miles.

It would on a lesser charge but given how the other verdict went he may have to take what he can get. This probably happens regardless of his involvement but who knows.

One of the stories I read said Manslaughter was included in the indictment. If that's true (sadly Alabama doesn't have free access to court records online like Florida does so I can't verify). If that's true, it would be smart for him to offer a blind plea.

I agree. A chance of getting out one day as opposed to not is worth that risk.
