Locksley has coordinated very good offenses at Illinois and Maryland. He just never had the talent level to stay consistent.

Got this from another board:

quote:

Tosh was named DC officially, but he wasn't 1st choice by Saban.

Jim Leonhard of Wisconsin was offered the DC position and turned Bama down. He wanted to stay and help his alma mater and Paul Chryst build something at Wisconsin.

Saban also interviewed Chris Partidge

I don't have any concern at all really. If Saban trusts him I do.

So it looks like we whiffed on recruiting coordinators too. Neither Locksley nor Tosh were Saban's desired options

We didn't whiff on anything. They are both homerun hires that will at least stay with us for more than a year and recruit well.

There is nothing that suggest Tosh can't call plays.

Locksley has not only called plays well at two places he has shown the ability to change his play calling to fit his personnel.

You literally know nothing.

True. However, Saban whiffed on hiring multiple OCs and DCs before settling for Tosh and Locksley.

Like I said, with Saban around, our defense will always be fine. However, going from Kiffin, to a highly desired NFL OC, to Locksley - a guy who Saban has passed over multiple times for OC, and a guy who Saban wanted to pass over again, we might be in for some questionable play-calling and a plethora of arse-chewings from Saban this season.
