I was impressed by Chelsea. They scored 49 points in 3 quarters to beat Oak Mountain. Sets up a big rivalry game with Briarwood next week

I know very little about Chelsea TBH. Played against them many years ago...when they were still a 3A. A lot has changed since then...for Chelsea and myself.

I really hope Hewitt can turn things around with that new coach they got out of Arkansas. They paid over $100,000 dollars to the dude straight up to coach these guys.

Idk if you guys have heard, but this is one of Malzahn's old QBs that was under his tutelage for years. Won like 2-3 state championships at some kind of Christian school if I remember correctly. There is absolutely no excuse for Hewitt not to get to state at least once under his tenure. Only problem is that Clay is Hewitt's rival and lately they've been beating the shite out of them.

Still don't know how Clay got so good immediately after they split from Hewitt. Probably because Hewitt is a bunch of preppy white kids and Clay is just a full blown ghetto. I went to both schools and you could tell most of the Clay students that go there either have one parent growing up or are part of a gang. Sorry I have a grudge against that school after how miserably I was treated there.

This should be Hewitt's breakout year. They moved from the Birmingham region to the North Alabama region. I think that they could go 9-1 or 8-2 this season and host some playoff games. They also beat Montgomery Bell (TN) last night

Yes, was very surprising. However, the talent cycle gets every high school unless you are recruiting I guess.

Maybe its Demopolis turn to have a few bad years.

Yeah you're probably right...and if so they will still probably win the region with Calera being their only true competition...dodge Jackson, St Paul's, & Vigor who are in Region 1. Greenville, Region 2. And Chilton & Helena moving to 6A.

In other news across the state..3 of the state's longest losing streak were broken

Wilcox-Central (25) beat Ellwood Christian
Houston County (24) beat Cottonwood
Barbour County (23) beat Zion Chapel

Russell Co lost their opener and is at 23 losses.

It is always about the Jimmys and the Joes, not the X's and O's.

First coach I ever worked for, (he won a bunch of games in Alabama), told me it is actually very hard to outcoach someone on the X's ad O's anymore. (This was many many years ago) He said that most coaches are solid and the difference is almost always talent.

I would bet 100% of the high school legend coaches did one of the following:
1. Hit the natural talent cycle at the right time at multiple schools

or

2. Recruited well and didn't get caught.

JMO..

ETA: Always outliers of course. We have all seen teams not well coached...but those are get to be fewer and fewer I believe.

And another guy I coached with has coached undefeated teams down to 0 win teams. He still feels like the best coaching job he ever did was with a team that won 1 game.

It's located in Selma. Probably haven't heard of it because there first season was in 2009.

My alma mater, Wetumpka, beat Prattville 55-53.

Big rivalry. QB Jadarius Martin ran close to 300 yards on their asses.

Used to have a good ball team. I remember when Eric Packer signed with Bama as well as a highly recruited DE (can't recall his name) that eventually transferred to Auburn. Chris Browder maybe? Anyway, they used to field a pretty good ball team

Have not kept up with Wetumpka. Are they expected to be legitimate contenders?

Yep, they had some talent. And the Browder name sounds correct.

Just in case anyone is not aware of this excellent high school football site for Alabama:

talismanred.com

If you have never visited this site you will be very surprised at the amount of info you will find there. Excellent.

Wilcox-Central had a outstanding two year run from 2000-2001. Was 10-1 in 2000 and lost to McAdory in the 2nd round of the playoffs. In 2001 went 12-1 and lost to Briarwood Christian and Tim Castille in the 3rd round of the playoffs.

They haven't had a winning record since 02. I think they had 3 players from those teams sign with Bama, none every played a down for the Tide.

They have went full Kentucky.

#basketball school. Been to bham a few times in the past few years lost to Petty & Johnson High and have state championship in earlier 2000s.

They really didn't have much support on the field (no more than about 30 guys) or in the stands. Around Demopolis 2009 championship team I think they dropped nearly 80 on them.
