We didn't get any snow up here, but we did get freezing rain last night. The base commander pushed report time back to 0930.
I got two extra hours of sleep.

My post on how bad it is here now from the OTB:
People were stranded overnight in their cars without food, a couple places on 280 took food to people in cars yesterday. People made it up to kids schools and daycares and then couldn't get back down the hill to get home, had to stay overnight at schools and daycares sleeping on gym floors or classroom carpet floors with children. It is easily the worst weather situation to hit Bham since the Tornado
Dave Upton's son has been rescuing people with the Helicopter they own taking people on 65 up the hill
HUNDREDS maybe even thousands of cars were left and stranded on interstates and highways all around Bham and people walked miles and miles to get back home, in the snow and cold
There is gonna likely be some more deaths they will find and it is such a horrible situation. One of my really good friends and coworkers had to stay the night at his daughters daycare, his wife had to leave her car and walk about 3 1/2 - 4 miles all up the mountain from downtown to their house in Homewood and he is dreading this morning to try to make the 2 1/2 mike trek in the snow back to his house from his 2 YO daughters daycare with her because of how cold it is. He drove yesterday to go get her and his older car overheated (took about 4 hours to go 3 miles) and broke down.

Yep, unfortunately. In Leeds, a woman called 911 from traffic. Husband was having a heart attack. They couldn't get to them and he passed.

Saban had to reschedule the BAW visit due to the weather.

It's tough when places that don't get much snow get one of these storms. We got a foot here in Virginia Beach. Took me two hours to shovel the drive and walks.

Malachi Dupre probably won't be able to host Saban today as planned.
He's conveniently stuck in Oxford.

I'm only wondering why the situation in Birmingham was that bad when just about the entire rest of the state shut down before noon or didn't open at all. Schools should have been closed. No justifiable reason for the schools and businesses not closing early to give people time to get home. The entire region knew this was coming before the weekend. People should probably lose their jobs over this.

Because some people just don't listen.
When Katrina hit my in-laws were in Biloxi staying at the Beau Rivage for the weekend and the State of MS issued an evacuation notice on FRIDAY, 4 days before it hit. They, along with most people left, but the ones who didn't have no one to blame but themselves.
They were warned. They chose not to heed that warning.

The weather channel was claiming it would be a light dusting of snow and that the roadways would be fine. A light dusting =/= 3 inches. I think they were predicting it would stay 100 miles south of Birmingham. Then when things got bad everyone was let off of work/school at the same time. ALDOT didn't salt or sand the roads, so it's a mess. Thankful that i didn't get caught in all that crap.

Who are you going to fire? The Weather Man? If he was fired every time he was wrong about the weather, he'd never work again.
