Oh well. I guess we weren't willing to give him a scholarship after all. I still don't get why that was such a big deal to him. His dad is a millionaire. Money is obviously not an issue.

If Barrett Jones' parents can pay his way why can't LDR's?

I think it is more the fact he doesn't care for Lane. Still seemed like a great kid. Hope he does well wherever he lands.

This is just my opinion...but maybe it's more having to do with his perception that there are better opportunities at Oregon St than here at Alabama. I don't think it has anything significant to do with money.

I am pretty sure he discussed this with his family and people that matter to him-- and it was the best decision for him.

May the force be with you, Lucas......

I don't get why people feel this way. Money is always an issue; for people that have it and don't. It's why people that have money, have money. They aren't usually careless with it and paying for your kid to go to school when he can go somewhere for free is just being bad with money, which most rich people aren't. I am a chemical engineer in the petro industry but when my son received an academic scholarship that paid for his private school tuition, I didn't think twice about turning not it down. Stuff like free money is usually a no brainer, even for rich people.

If it was an issue he would have gone to Oklahoma State on scholarship. He was committed there for months.

I personally don't think scholarship vs no-scholarship has anything to do with his decision to transfer. He decided to walk-on at Bama over scholarships at other schools.

Tompkins his Dad is the current DC of the Denver Broncos and has also been a HC in Jacksonville

Money is no issue

He transferred because we hired Kiffin

If he wasn't scared of coming in with 2 QBs on scholarship I wouldn't think he would be scared off by a transfer possibly coming in. One who won't even be on campus for 4 months. Plus, he would have an opportunity to take over after Coker leaves even if he did lose out to him.

He very well probably transferred because of Kiffen, but to say money is not an issue is wrong. It's an issue for everyone.

Why would the Kiffin hiring push him away? If he got the job, he'd probably be getting a great chance to show off his arm.

Kiffin not offering him at his dad's alma mater probably has a lot to do with it. I'm not insider, but it makes sense.

He is the son of Jack Del Rio famous LB at USCw and still a very active alum within the USCw community. Coming out of HS USCw didn't even sniff Luke, didn't recruit him, didn't offer, he was considering UCLA a bitter rival for Christ sake because of how much they were turned off by Kiffin.

A couple other Pac12 & Big12 - 2 schools offered him a scholly and USCw didn't

Well, to be fair it's more than just pride. If he actively doesn't like the guy, then it's certainly in everyone's best interest for him to transfer. Doesn't have to be any hard feelings.
