I agree . As an educator , I want schools back to normal also . However , people act like virtual , hybrid , etc are permanent things and they will not be . Little Johnny or Susie is still going to get an education . If you want schools , bars , restaurants etc open , then maybe we should be as safe as possible . I don’t like masks but I wear one ( I know some have legitimate reasons for not wearing them ) but most just flat refuse to try any measures and here we are again

Hell I miss being around the kids and athletics at school but the current climate of politicians and administrators and media are not going to risk things right now until numbers go down right or wrong

So what do you do if by mid-October there have been a grand total of ~15 days spent in school due to multiple outbreaks that were followed up by blanket quarantines rather than contact tracing and testing. Contact tracing and targeted testing should be something pretty easily accomplished, at least in elementary schools, but I'm not holding my breath waiting on it to happen.

In NC the Gov just made it official that the public schools will operate on plan B. Which most of the counties have already said they were going to do. It will be hybrid with a mix of online and in person cohorts. No cohort will be more then 50% of capacity for that school with limiting it to 33%. Some school systems are only bringing in K-6 or K-8 with the rest online only in the fall.

The Gov did not state any quarantine was required or shutdown. Just remove the student and clean while informing everyone so they can make the best decision for them. The biggest concern will be for funding where funding is based on headcount. The schools are already looking at around 30% reduction in enrollment for the fall as students will either be homeschooling or attending a virtual academy being offered in each system.

Again each system at the local level will determine their own plan B to accommodate their community to the best as well how to deal with positive cases in the schools.

Agreed as I teach in college but have 5 kids in the fall that will be preK-6th grade with each involved in at least one activity/sport after school and I coach almost 6 days a week and train teams.

I think the decision should be given to the families to make but they need the best information available to do so.

My system is officially 100% online on a month to month basis to be re-evaluated at each monthly board meeting.

Got no idea how this is all going to work in terms of working and educating my children, but we'll make the best out of it.

I fell like we're still (as a country) not talking enough about how working parents are actually supposed to handle this.

I think it is all about the liability unfortunately . You would be surprised at the number of parents who are still Leary about school and athletics

We are going hybrid schedule as well and will transition to traditional or virtual depending on numbers

Yeah, George and I have had a previous discussion on this, and I think you're 100% correct.

Or maybe the more you shut down, the longer it will last. Maybe you guys might want to think of that.

If the doctor is to be believed, children seldom transmit the disease. If there is proof that they do on any kind of scale, I would love to see it. Prove the doc wrong and you might be believed.

What are you even responding to? He said that people aren't considering the weight of parents having to deal with their kids being at home because their schools are shut down. His point is that school shutdowns are going to cause problems for parents. School shutdowns = bad for parents.......literally the position you just re-stated and then said "you might want to think of that" as if he wasn't saying.........exactly that.

At least slowdown and read things.

I'm not responding to one person. I'm responding to all of the anti school posts. If you are an educator and fear going back, you are mostly thinking for yourself.

Trust me, nobody here wants their kids at home going to school over Skype for all of 2020-2021.

It's a nightmare of absolutely epic proportions.

I'm sure glad I am in a state that will handle this the right way. I know we are going and will continue.

Rather doing online than going to brick and mortar is what I'm calling anti school.

Call it what you want. That is unwarranted fear.

I don't know where you live but these decisions are made on a local level here - not a state level.

Might want to inform Miami-Dade Public Schools of that - they seem to be under the impression they will be making their own decision.

quote:

“It’s all going to be guided by science,” whether to fully reopen schools, said Mayor Carlos Gimenez in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in the southeastern part of the country, where the number of coronavirus cases is soaring. “It all depends on the state of the virus” when the school year is scheduled to start in six weeks.

They might make their own decision on the plan. DeSantis mandated going back. He could change his mind for Miami Dade, but right now each district comes up with a plan and brick and mortar must happen.

Parents have the option of not sending their kid and doing online.

No exceptions for brick and mortar.

They are currently conducting a survey with stakeholders that has 2 options

(1) Daily Attendance or Hybrid Model
(2) Full-Time Online Learning

I know what DeSantis and Trump want, but from everything I read Miami-Dade gets to do what Miami-Dade wants to do.
