who knows? There are 10,000 variables. It could be anything.

I'm just saying shooting is so mental. Of course, coaches can help you some but you have to master it.

Reese is a good example. He has no fear of the missed shot. I love him and hate him for it. But he's right, if you are open, fire it up. Can't worry.

John Petty can shoot a basketball. He failed at that last year b/c of something in his head. When he figures that out or stops worrying about it, they'll fall again. Coaches telling him it's going to be okay won't help him. He has to get over whatever it is, the speed of the game, fear of failing...whatever it is.

I'm just saying, that I've yet to hear about a kid who lives in the gym practicing shooting that has a long term mentality problem

If you practice enough at a high level, the mentality will fix itself.

See Aaron Gordon. Got the yips in college shooting some 45% FT despite hitting some 70+% in practice. Gets to the NBA and his FTs are just fine

If you practice it, the buckets will come

Looks like BOL did an article about Shackelford this morning if anyone wants to do a summary.

Alabama has made him a priority. He talks to Avery and Pett all the time. Bama will have an in-home visit Sept 13. He said the communication has been constant.

“They’ve been on me tough. It’s been really good”

Alabama is recruiting him the hardest. He loves that our staff has kept it real with him about what he does good and what he needs to work on.

Has no leaders but he said “I can say Alabama is doing great right now”.

Plans to commit in November

I hope we sign him. We need more guards on the roster.

We're among the 6 schools set to visit him (Arizona, Gonzaga, Illinois, Louisville, and Michigan State are the others).

Anyone know why we've completely written him off? Everyone is talking about how he's kept his recruitment very close to the vest. Is it simply because of the programs that are after him or is there something more to it?

I think it’s just bc of the programs after him. U usually can tell with a recruit if they’re interested and if we have a good chance to land him. But with him, it just hasn’t seemed like he’s really THAT interested in us

With Arizona and Louisville's troubles, Michigan State looks like the biggest competition on that list, but who knows. Gonzaga is a better program than us too, but they tend to pull mostly from the West Coast and international players.

He's got to cut down on all the stupid fouls he was committing last year so that he can stay out there.

Herb fouled out of 4 games and did not foul out in the last 15 games thereafter. You can't be a defensive hound without fouling some, so I'm ok with him having a higher rate than others. Clearly no one wants him reaching in 50-90 feet from the basket but if he gets called for a block more often than other players, that's just part of his game.

That's what I'm referring to. He rarely tried to take a charge when it was obviously going to get called for a block.
