By the time they get started and finish these renovations, it will all be outdated and out of style.

Only half joking.

Unfortunately, "worth watching" bar is set pretty dang high in this state.

Right now, the "we're back" energy is filling seats, but that isn't sustainable. To consistently fill seats means SEC Champ / Deep tourney run contender annually which isn't easy to do

Love Colemans renovations. Student section looks in a perfect spot and while 9500 might be too much of a downgrade it will give a better atmosphere and even the midweek games will be packed now.

I wish they would fricking start it after this season instead of 5 years from now.

That's a long arse time to wait to start these, especially with the renovations being much needed. Wish they would flip the BDS and Coleman renos and start Coleman in the spring.

Even if all of our fans actively followed all of our sports, football would take priority. Coleman is definitely more in need, but especially if Saban pushed for it, it makes sense football takes priority.

You have an all time great coach, it makes sense to try and squeeze every ounce out of his time in Tuscaloosa.

This is and should be true, but only to a certain extent. There was no need for a Bryant-Denny reno while Coleman has needed a major overhaul for yeaaaars. There was all this planning and rumors cooking for a Coleman reno and out of the blue BDS gets a reno before Coleman? It's also that line of thinking that makes me think this Coleman reno will keep getting pushed back.

Which should include taking some of the revenue he's generating to make Coleman not a terrible venue and environment.

I agree with all of this. What I'm saying is that it's not just a f*** the football only fans thing. Even at Kentucky, football is more profitable than basketball. At any school that plays any semblance of big-time college football, it's going to take priority.

The NCAA takes almost all the money basketball brings in.

Yeah, I think the fact that football is the more profitable program everywhere is what partly bothers me. When Auburn was the epitome of a shite basketball program and had a good football team they dedicated themselves to build a new arena for basketball because they needed one. If Auburn can do it, there's no reason it should have taken Alabama this long to upgrade Coleman.

Here's what I think/hope the reasoning is behind the Bryant-Denny upgrades coming first and being announced with Coleman plans (and another reason why I grow tired of football-only fans):

115 million dollars (a lot) of the 600 million dollar (holy hell) fundraising effort is for Coleman while the other ridiculous 485 million dollars is allocated elsewhere for unnecessary football-related upgrades.

By throwing an overwhelming majority of 600 million dollars towards football, it makes it easier for us to collect the 115 million dollars for Coleman renovations. Of course most of the money collected in this effort will be donated by football boosters wanting to receive return on their dollar hence the BDS changes coming first. In this way we're able to collect more money for Coleman than we would get otherwise. At least this is how I'm rationalizing this shite in my head to help my blood pressure.

I hate we have to wait so long, but at least it’s a good renovation from what we can tell. It seems like it’ll be worth the wait

I don't think all of that is for football. All athletes can use the Mal Moore facility, and my understanding is that there are going to be improvements made to other athletics facilities that weren't including in the presentation.

Not happy about the wait, but it's better than nothing. Didn't think we would go below 11k, but I'm just glad we won't have the worst arena I'm the league anymore. Maybe by the time they start the tear down inside, they'll look at it a few more times and expand the student section a little more.

Yeah, I know. Should've worded it differently, but the reason I say football-related is that they can sell it to boosters as most of the budget being dedicated to facilities the football teams take advantage of.

I'm less annoyed that we have to wait so long and more annoyed that the reason we're waiting so long is for an impromptu and needless BDS renovation. I think if we actually use the 115 million allotted for Coleman Coliseum, it's going to be amazing (for comparison Auburn spent 86 million on a brand new facility). I'll get excited when it actually happens though, because I'm an Alabama basketball fan and expect this to get inevitably pushed back further and further.

Or the BDS project will run over budget and they'll take funds from the planned Coleman project to cover the extra costs, then start cutting back on some of the upgrades to Coleman.

We are of the same pessimistic mind on this one. That's exactly why I said IF we use the 115 million dollars on Coleman.
