Ya, I disagree with this. I doubt Penny will be an elite coach, but I fully expect him to have Memphis winning 25+ per year and making the NCAAT

I'm sure it'll hurt us next year, but in a way, I'm kind of glad he's gone. Declaring for the draft for no reason and then being horrible the next year soured me on him.

Yeah, I can see that and I have felt that way about him at times as well. I can still be counted in the camp that wanted him to stay because I do think that he is a good player and adds a lot of value for us. It's been painfully obvious that he did not like it here, however. He'll be a good pickup for someone.

No ill towards him, but he never meshed well here. Seems like the 2nd half of his freshman season, he never lived up to his potential.

I think you're underestimating the American and overestimating Chandler Lawson. Lawson is a third tier prospect who I'd bet goes to Kansas anyways. Wiseman may be enough of a star to carry them for one year, but they can't expect that sort of player annually.

I see Memphis being in the middle tier of the American most years under Penny. I don't see them consistently overtaking Cincinnati, Witchita State, or Houston as long as those teams keep their current coaches. I also expect Hurley to make UConn instantly much better.

I don't even think 25 wins would've gotten Memphis in the tournament this past season either. They're going to have to schedule better. I wouldn't mind seeing them on our schedule regularly.

I'm kind of disappointed he's leaving, but I'm really disappointed that Riley is his replacement instead of a proper GT or Juco.

Don't think this will affect us. We have plenty of depth at that position and I honestly can't think of one thing Key did well for us last year. Best of luck to him and I think this is probably best for both sides.

I looked it up immediately after the season but Key - after his first 8 games where he was out of shape/still hurt - shot 46% from the field.

How many others do you think did that?

What did Braxton bring to the table for us last year that we're gonna miss out on this year? Curious to here your thoughts.

The opening round of the NCAA was the first time I ever saw him dive for a loose ball.

I think he’s talented but never looked like he wanted to be here or bought into the team mentality.

he's got feet of concrete for sure

but he would be an asset next year. According to some of you, we had one good player last year.

Key looked lazy a lot of times, but he still was a huge contributor before he got hurt, and he started to get better later in the year this past season. I think he would’ve had a really good season if he hadn’t been injured. Cecil said he never had time to get back adjusted to the game. He was sort of just thrown in the fire this past season. I was excited to see him come back healthy next year, but now we won’t get to see what he can do. Instead we’ll get Riley Norris...

If Key were to return to his freshman form that would have been huge. Big If though. Just based on what he did last year, we aren't losing much. It shouldn't really affect anybody's expectations.

After last season ended, my expectations for this coming year were to return to the tournament. Those have not changed.

Still confused as to why some of y'all view Norris coming back as a negative. He's always been one of our best on-ball defenders (despite how some of y'all try to paint him as too slow) and he has the potential to be a very good shooter for us. Key leaving definitely isn't helping us next year, but having Riley back to help replace him is most certainly a good thing, not a bad thing.

Norris would have helped us win some of the games we lost this year. I think trading Key for Norris is a positive, even if Key is obviously the more talented player.

Riley back is a positive. Without a doubt.
