I wouldn't say I liked Auburn basketball as much as I suffered through it

Who plays 4 assuming Key is gone? Small ball with Mack there? Reese? Another year for Norris?

My guess
PG - D. Ingram (6-5, 207)
SG - J. Petty (6-5, 195)
SF - H. Jones (6-7, 200)
PF - T. Mack (6-7, 223)
C - D. Hall (6-9, 232)
Bench
A. Johnson Jr (PG) (5-11, 187)
G. Smith (C) (6-9, 235)
R. Norris (F) (6-7, 210)
A. Reese (F) (6-9, 250)
J. Butler (PG) (6-2, 180)
Long bench would probably include Javian Fleming getting some minutes in the post. And then whatever we bring in from the transfer market.

I can already tell, our guard situation is going to give me hives

All 3 are options. My guess is Mack starting at the 4 in most games. With Reese/Norris getting possibly the most minutes there as a backup since Mack would probably slide to the 2/3 when possible.

On that topic, here is my updated lineup prediction that I know all of you have been waiting for...
PG - Butler (20)
SG - Petty (28)
SF - Jones (25)
PF - Mack (27)
C - Hall (25)
6 - Ingram (25)
7 - Reese (15)
8 - Norris (15)
9 - Fleming (10)
10 - AJjr (10)
11 - Smith (Spot)
12 - Wood (Garbage time)
So I went from 1 hot take to potentially 2
I've thought for a while now that Ingram is the perfect candidate to be a high-usage 6th man. He can fill in for anybody in the 1-3 (and even 4 against small lineups) spots with fresh legs. For rotational purposes it makes so much sense. It also might motivate him to get and stay more aggressive. Of course all of this hinges on Butler being ready to take over the lead guard reigns immediately.
The second and newest hot take is Fleming over Smith. I'm not 100% sold on it, and I get that Smith looked solid through stretches of the season, but hear me out. Smith had zero expectations this year and did reasonably well, but what really stood out from him? He was a solid post defender, but he wasn't really a shot-blocker and was a poor rebounder. I'm starting to think that what stood out was that he outperformed a guy with high expectations as well as seemed far beyond where we expected to look offensively. There's no question that Fleming is a better scorer and passer, and I wouldn't imagine he'd be a worse rebounder. I've heard the staff really likes him as a defender too although he's not really a shot-blocker either. My question is even if Fleming's not a good defender, is Smith's solid defense enough to outweigh all the skill Fleming brings to the table?

Was recently told not to expect a grad transfer. It could still happen but if we take a transfer it will probably come from the traditional sort and not be eligible next year. TIFWIW

I hate that. I mean why would they rule it out? He really loves the sit one transfers. I understood Giddens and Mack, but I don't see the reasoning behind recruiting Moyer and wasting a scholarship for a year. All I can think is that he blew the staff away in HS.

It's my one area of concern. I'm putting all my eggs into the "Jared Butler is ready" basket

Yeah we need guard imo.
I don't see Moyer being better than Herbert or Mack, so I wouldn't be surprised if he just shows up then transfers away like King and maybe now Giddens.

I agree with this. I wish they could bulk him up (good weight).

I'd rather they take a grad transfer. We needs some bodies that can contribute. This waiting a year for guys to be eligible is getting old.

I don’t think they’ve ruled it out. Just haven’t found what they want out of a grad transfer. And I don’t know if the transfer will be Moyer. Could be, but might be somebody else.
