Petty, yes. Who else? From everything I've read we don't know how ready the other 2 freshman G/F will be. I could see Petty starting and Norris off the bench, but either way Norris will be playing a lot of minutes. And he will be solid in a role his should have been in all along : 4th offensive option/spot up shooter, good rebounder, good team defender.

You think Lawson will be in the rotation, but then you didn't even list him?

I said no, I don't think he'll be in the rotation.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. I'd be surprised if he doesn't start.

Yeah I'd be surprised too if Norris doesn't start. I've said all along Norris will start and there's a possibility that Petty will eventually win the spot

I also just don't think "starting" matters all that much.

Norris is going to be a big part of our team defense with so many new guys (Sexton, Petty, Jones, Giddens, Reese).

Starters
PG - Sexton

Rotation Bench Players

Secondary Bench Players
F - Jones or Reese
C - Smith

My guess would be similar, but with a switch of Norris and Key for sure. Norris is just a much better perimeter defender and Key has the stronger and longer frame for post players. I do think Norris spends some time at the four though.

It would make more sense for AJjr to be a secondary bench player, but like I said before I'm not sure that happens.

I don't think Petty nor Jones will play much, if at all, at the 4. With their rail thin frames, they would get destroyed by true 4s. I could see Ingram possibly lining up as a 4 though. What I think we'll see a lot of though is Giddens and Hall being on the floor at the same time. They're both too good to just split minutes at the 5. I would expect the timeshare at the 4 to primarily consist of Key and Hall/Giddens with Norris spending a good amount of time there in favorable match-ups.

I think Norris starts until one of the younger guys figure things out. On another note these Canada games will help out a lot. Should help with figuring out the rotation.

If by start you mean on court for opening tipoff, he is starting all year. He is a 4 year player/ 3YR under Avery, plays hard/excellent hustle and isn't a huge liability. By end of year, Norris may not get the most minutes but he'll be a "starter"

By end of year, I think your lineup in terms of minute share is the following

PG- Sexton
SG- Ingram
SF- Petty
PF/Stretch 4 - Key
C - Hall/Giddens

6th Man Role - Norris (Starts but really a role/rotation guy)

He didn't even start all year last year. If Norris isn't on shooting he does nothing IMO. He tries to play defense but he can't stop anyone he isn't athletic enough. I think Petty takes his spot by end of year.

Yep. And he's a solid team defender and rebounder. And, on offense, he'll get to play a much more specific role that doesn't require him to do things like put the ball on the floor or try and make plays, which he cannot do.

He's not a great player, but he's a "role" guy, and we'll finally have enough guys to allow him to (hopefully) play his role. He's never been able to do that over his career and it makes him look bad sometimes.

He wasn't the only senior / most experienced player under Avery on the team last year.....

Takes his spot in terms of minutes or in terms of "starting" aka "I was standing during opening tipoff which is noted by a start?"

As I said, I expect Petty Minutes > Norris minutes by end of next year. I just find it hard to believe that Norris won't be named a starter on record.

That's just not true at all. He's the best team defender we have. He reads things and plays help defense very well. Does he get beat in 1-on-1s when he gets put in a bad spot sometimes? Sure, but that isn't his role and if he consistently gets stuck in that role that's a coaching issue. He's a very good backside rebounder.

Now, if he's not shooting well at all, it definitely diminishes his value. We'll take Petty learning team defense on the job if he adds offense and Norris ads none. But his value is more so in what he does around the rim offensively and covering things defensively than anything else.

Definitely underrated part of his game. He shot 49.5% 2FG and had an eFG% of ~50%.

Easily true. Riley is a good defender and someone who argues otherwise is a dunce

I would just say "good" but he has the ability to kill teams that don't matchup w/ his size or have problems boxing out

Norris is a guy that you ideally want as a 6th man off the bench and would be great in that role. He probably gets 6th man minutes while starting the game on the floor though

I don't think that's true. He doesn't really WOW you with anything he does, but he's pretty good across the board. As a complete package, he was one of the more valuable players on the team last year. And if Sexton/Ingram can drive and dish to him for open threes, he becomes downright dangerous.

Yes, I agree

Yup. And he's been forced into a #2 or #3 scorer role most of his career (especially the last 2 years), and he's just not that kind of player. And it makes him look awkward and out of sync.
